Book Concise Environmental Assessments

Download or read book Concise Environmental Assessments written by Artemisia Turiya and published by . This book was released on 2019-06-04 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: THE CAPACITY FOR CONCISE PLANNING AND COMPLIANCE is fundamentally related to the spirit of the National Environmental Policy Act. According to NEPA's implementing regulations, an environmental assessment (EA) is "...a concise public document...that serves to briefly provide sufficient evidence and analysis for determining whether to prepare an environmental impact statement or a finding of no significant impact..." However, across the federal agencies, EAs often exceed 100 pages and take several years to complete. This manual offers guidance on conceptual considerations and suggested primary approaches that build capacity for concise EA processes and documentation, and provides perspectives that a NEPA practitioner can use every day crafting document structure and content. This manual is oriented to an audience of NEPA practitioners whose work serves federal land management agencies, although much of the guidance in this manual also applies more broadly to development of EAs within other federal agencies.

Book Routledge Handbook of Environmental Impact Assessment

Download or read book Routledge Handbook of Environmental Impact Assessment written by Kevin Hanna and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2022-04-10 with total page 387 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Globally, environmental impact assessment (EIA) is one of the most enduring and influential environmental management tools. This handbook provides readers with a strong foundation for understanding the practice of EIA, by outlining the different types of assessment while also providing a guide to best practice. This collection deploys a research and practice-based approach to the subject, delivering an overview of EIA as an essential and practical tool of environmental protection, planning, and policy. To best understand the most pertinent issues and challenges surrounding EIA today, this volume draws together prominent researchers, practitioners, and young scholars who share their work and knowledge to cover two key parts. The first part introduces EIA processes and best practices through analytical and critical chapters on the stages/elements of the EIA process and different components and forms of assessment. These provide examples that cover a wide range of assessment methods and cross-cutting issues, including cumulative effects assessment, social impact assessment, Indigenous-led assessment, risk assessment, climate change, and gender-based assessment. The second part provides jurisdictional reviews of the European Union, the US National Environmental Policy Act, recent assessment reforms in Canada, EIA in developing economies, and the EIA context in England. By providing a concise outline of the process followed by in-depth illustrations of approaches, methods and tools, and case studies, this book will be essential for students, scholars, and practitioners of environmental impact assessment.

Xu He, Professor and Director of the Strategic Environmental Assessment Center at Nankai University, China Fischer gives a concise and wellstructured account of SEA as it is used today. Readers thus will gain important insights into SEA: why it is important, how it works, and what it can and should achieve. Professor Thomas Bunge, Federal Environment Agency, Germany Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) is a fast-growing and rapidly evolving professional field driven by both advances in theory and practice and by regulatory requirements in Europe, North America, Australasia, South Africa and increasingly across Asia. However, to date, analysis of existing practice and associated reporting has remained far from systematic and there has been a clear need for a comprehensive textbook to facilitate teaching, learning and practice in this burgeoning field. This textbook, the first of its kind, provides for a state-ofthe-art review of SEA theory and practice and promotes a more systematic approach to SEA. It is written for a wide student, professional and academic audience and aims particularly at supporting the development of SEA modules in undergraduate and postgraduate planning, environmental assessment, engineering and law courses. It provides an overview of the fundamental principles and rules of SEA, reports systematically on international SEA practice and theory and pushes the envelope by developing the theory. Supporting material includes boxed examples and case studies from around the world, extra reading suggestions and a glossary of terms. This is the essential book for all students, professionals and academics in SEA and EIA and follow-up worldwide.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This much-needed book examines one of the great lacunae of contemporary philosophical discussion - idealism. Addressing the widespread confusion about the meaning and use of the term, Tom Rockmore surveys and classifies some of its major forms. He argues that Kant provides the essential link between three main types of idealism associated with Plato, the new way of ideas, and German idealism. The author also makes a case for the contemporary relevance of at least one strand in the tangled idealist web, a strand most clearly identified with Kant. In terms of the philosophical tradition, Rockmore contends, constructivism offers a lively, interesting, and important approach to knowledge after the decline of metaphysical realism.
