Book Greenhouse climate control

Download or read book Greenhouse climate control written by J.C. Bakker and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2023-08-28 with total page 291 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This publication emphasises that an interdisciplinary and multi-disciplinary cooperation of scientists throughout the world is important in solving the complex problems facing the greenhouse industry. The book itself is an outstanding example of such cooperation. The aim of the book is to describe and analyse crop production in greenhouses in relation to climate control, to redefine the problem of (optimal) control from a theoretical point of view, and to provide a suitable framework for the design of new, scientifically based control systems. Though the principles are generally applicable, they are discussed against the background of the Dutch greenhouse industry. To provide the reader with some background information, the historical developments and the economic position of the Dutch horticultural industry are briefly reviewed in the introductory chapter. ...this book will certainly become a reference as such an extensive review on the greenhouse-crop system and its control is lacking for research and teaching... Book Environmental Control for Plants using Intelligent Control Systems

Download or read book Environmental Control for Plants using Intelligent Control Systems written by Ibrahim A. Hameed and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2012-03-14 with total page 149 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Master's Thesis from the year 2005 in the subject Computer Sciences - Artificial Intelligence, grade: MSc, , course: Intelligent Control, language: English, abstract: [...] In practice, conventional controllers were used to control the system however their parameters are empirically adjusted. Besides, the operation of these controllers relies on the measurements provided by sensors located inside and near the greenhouse. If the information provided by one or several of these sensors is erroneous, the controllers will not operate properly. Similarly, failure of one or several of the actuators to function properly will impair the greenhouse operation. Therefore, an automatic diagnosis system of failures in greenhouses is proposed. The diagnosis system is based on deviations observed between measurements performed in the system and the predictions of a model of the failure-free system. This comparison is done through a bank of fuzzy observers, where each observer becomes active to a specific failure signature and inactive to the other failures. Neural networks are used to develop a model for the failure-free greenhouse. The main objective of this thesis is to explore and develop intelligent control schemes for adjusting the climate inside a greenhouse. The thesis employs the conventional Pseudo- Derivative Feedback (PDF) Controller. It develops the fuzzy PDF controller (FPDF). The thesis also, develops two genetic algorithm (GA) based climatic control schemes, one is genetic PDF (GPDF) and the other is genetic FPDF (GFPDF). The former uses GA to adjust the gains of the Pseudo-Derivative Feedback Controller (GPDF) and the later uses genetic algorithm to optimize the FPDF controller parameters (i.e., scale factors and/or parameters of the membership functions). Finally, the thesis develops a fuzzy neural fault detection and isolation system (FNFDIS), in which a bank of fuzzy observers are designed to detect faults that may occur in the greenhouse end items (e.g.., sensors and actuators). Simulation experiments are performed to test the soundness and capabilities of the developed control schemes for controlling the greenhouse climate. The proposed schemes are tested through two experiments, setpoint tracking test and regulatory control test. Also, the proposed diagnostic system was tested through four experiments. Compared with the results obtained using the conventional controllers, best results have been achieved using the proposed control schemes.

Book Greenhouse Design and Control

Download or read book Greenhouse Design and Control written by Pedro Ponce and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2014-09-11 with total page 382 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Agricultural production is one of the main keys to the development of healthy societies. It is anticipated that agricultural systems will increasingly have to contend with temperature, humidity and water stress in the near future. This makes the need to increase the efficiency of land and water use ever more urgent. The control and design of greenhouses allows to increase dramatically the quality of crops and extend the cultivation period year-round. A properly designed autonomous greenhouse based on hydroponics can greatly reduce the amounts of nutrients and energy expended in agricultural production. This book deals with different types of greenhouses, materials, structures, advanced control techniques and tendencies that are needed for designing and controlling an advanced greenhouse. The control system is presented as an integral system which covers the explanation of basic and advanced concepts for a real time controller. Also, structural analysis is introduced, whereby mechanical design is regarded as a key factor. The book incorporates simulations and experimental results, and utilizes LabVIEW and ADAMS software. Finally, it provides a perspective on the present state and future of greenhouses globally. Written in a highly accessible manner, this book will prove useful to horticulturalists, agricultural engineers, greenhouse engineers and designers. Its easy-to-absorb contents are also suitable for (under)graduate students and researchers in agricultural and electronic engineering, horticulture, crop cultivation and soft computing.

Book Integrated Greenhouse Systems for Mild Climates

Download or read book Integrated Greenhouse Systems for Mild Climates written by Christian von Zabeltitz and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-10-01 with total page 363 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Crop production in greenhouses is a growing industry, especially in mild climates, and is very important for the population as a source of income and clean, fresh food. Greenhouses create optimal climate conditions for crop growth and protect crops from outside pests. At the same time greenhouse production increases water use efficiency and makes integrated production and protection (IPP) possible. This book provides technical instructions for practice (what to do and what not to do) and gives answers to the question: How to produce more clean crops and better quality with less water, less land and less pesticide. Suitable greenhouse constructions and their design, adapted to local climates in subtropical, tropical and arid regions and infrastructure conditions are presented. The necessary climate control measures - light transmittance, ventilation, cooling, heating, and CO2 enrichment - and physical measures for pest control, as well as methods for using solar energy to desalinate salty water are described. The results of theoretical research are transferred into methods for practical use, so that readers are equipped to solve their problems in practice as well as to get stimulation for further research and development.
