Book Intuition and Computer Programming WT

Download or read book Intuition and Computer Programming WT written by Michael Weigend and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Intuitive models are self-evident, holistic mental concepts about the world. They are based upon experience in many domains and people are certain and confident to understand them completely. Programmers use them, when they try to understand the semantics of a computer program, explain an algorithmic idea to someone else, check the logical correctness of existing code or create new computer programs. This book focuses on intuitive models (declarative knowledge) applied by programming novices concerning state transitions versus data processing, allocation of activity within a running program, and the assignment of names to entities and function calls.

Book 3D Imaging

Download or read book 3D Imaging written by Emerson H. Duke and published by . This book was released on 2010-07-30 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Electron microscope tomography (EMT) has emerged as the leading technique for three-dimensional (3D) structural analysis of unique complex biological specimens. This book reviews the different computational stages involved in EMT, from image acquisition to interpretation of the 3D reconstruction. The high performance computing (HPC) techniques normally used to cope with the computational demands are also described. Moreover, combining the holographic methods with the methods for digital image processing has made it possible to develop the digital holographic interference microscope (DHIM) for real-time 3D imaging of phase microscopic objects and measurement of their morphological parameters. In this book, the classical and holographic methods of phase microobject visualisation are considered. In addition, 3D imaging has become commonplace in the medical field, with its routine use in the better established institutions for pre-natal observations, diagnosis of ailments, work-up prior to surgery, recovery monitoring and many other medical procedures. This book discusses the research methodology required in the reconstruction of 3D volume and employing computer-aided diagnosis to identify various diseases. Details of the different stages of processing, along with the promising results achieved are presented. Also discussed are some considerations for future trends of 3D imaging in the medical field. Other chapters cover detailed derivations of reconstruction algorithms in 2D and modern 3D cone-beam CT (CBCT), evaluate geometric parameters of bone in 3D using CT scans or a new low-radiating device (EOS), and CT based 3D- display providing accurate preoperative visualisation and computerised risk analyses for safety margins of pancreatic- and biliary- tract tumours, as well as for the assessment of abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAA).

This book provides concise and good practice design guidelines on software security which will benefit practitioners, researchers, learners, and educators. Topics discussed include systematic approaches to engineering; building and assuring software security throughout software lifecycle; software security based requirements engineering; design for software security; software security implementation; best practice guideline on developing software security; test for software security and quality validation for software security.

Book Logic of Analog and Digital Machines

Download or read book Logic of Analog and Digital Machines written by Paolo Rocchi and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In what does the difference between analog and digital consist? What are the benefits of a digital solution with respect to a parallel analog solution? This is not a purely intellectual conundrum since managers and politicians make conspicuous investments in analog and digital infrastructures and systems. Scientists from different fields are searching for the appropriate definition of what is digital and analog, but the profile of the technologies that have changed mankind's lifestyle and the history of the world still resist the scrutiny of thinkers. The present work deriving from a long-term theoretical inquiry suggests some keys to interpret the digital and the analog machines. The author claims that understanding analog versus digital is not as easy as comparing the adjectives digital/continuous or natural/artificial, and conducts an accurate analysis of the systems' core. Frequently the author follows an historical perspective and does not refrain from comments on linguistics, anthropology, psychology, and other fields related to the information domain. Book jacket.

Book A Framework for K 12 Science Education

Download or read book A Framework for K 12 Science Education written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2012-02-28 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Science, engineering, and technology permeate nearly every facet of modern life and hold the key to solving many of humanity's most pressing current and future challenges. The United States' position in the global economy is declining, in part because U.S. workers lack fundamental knowledge in these fields. To address the critical issues of U.S. competitiveness and to better prepare the workforce, A Framework for K-12 Science Education proposes a new approach to K-12 science education that will capture students' interest and provide them with the necessary foundational knowledge in the field. A Framework for K-12 Science Education outlines a broad set of expectations for students in science and engineering in grades K-12. These expectations will inform the development of new standards for K-12 science education and, subsequently, revisions to curriculum, instruction, assessment, and professional development for educators. This book identifies three dimensions that convey the core ideas and practices around which science and engineering education in these grades should be built. These three dimensions are: crosscutting concepts that unify the study of science through their common application across science and engineering; scientific and engineering practices; and disciplinary core ideas in the physical sciences, life sciences, and earth and space sciences and for engineering, technology, and the applications of science. The overarching goal is for all high school graduates to have sufficient knowledge of science and engineering to engage in public discussions on science-related issues, be careful consumers of scientific and technical information, and enter the careers of their choice. A Framework for K-12 Science Education is the first step in a process that can inform state-level decisions and achieve a research-grounded basis for improving science instruction and learning across the country. The book will guide standards developers, teachers, curriculum designers, assessment developers, state and district science administrators, and educators who teach science in informal environments.
