Book Computer and Information Science Applications in Bioprocess Engineering

Download or read book Computer and Information Science Applications in Bioprocess Engineering written by A.R. Moreira and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 469 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Biotechnology has been labelled as one of the key technologies of the last two decades of the 20th Century, offering boundless solutions to problems ranging from food and agricultural production to pharmaceutical and medical applications, as well as environmental and bioremediation problems. Biological processes, however, are complex and the prevailing mechanisms are either unknown or poorly understood. This means that adequate techniques for data acquisition and analysis, leading to appropriate modeling and simulation packages that can be superimposed on the engineering principles, need to be routine tools for future biotechnologists. The present volume presents a masterly summary of the most recent work in the field, covering: instrumentation systems; enzyme technology; environmental biotechnology; food applications; and metabolic engineering.

Book Tools and Applications of Biochemical Engineering Science

Download or read book Tools and Applications of Biochemical Engineering Science written by K. Schügerl and published by Springer. This book was released on 2003-07-01 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This special volume "Tools and Applications of Biochemical Engineering Science" is dedicated to Professor Wolf-Dieter Deckwer on the occasion of his 60th bir- day. It was a great pleasure for me to act together with Professor Karl Schtigerl as volume editor and to present here a collection of 11 outstanding review articles written mainly by former students, associates, colleagues and friends of Wolf- Dieter Deckwer. The title of this special volume well reflects the research interests and sci- tific pursuit of Wolf-Dieter Deckwer during his more than 20 years’ work in the area of biochemical engineering, particularly during the last 15 years when he was the head of the Biochemical Engineering Division of GBF (German Nat- nal Research Center for Biotechnology). He has decisively pushed the devel- ment not only of "software tools" ranging from analytical means and mathe- tical models for monitoring and understanding cellular processes to gene expression systems for designing microorganisms, but also of "hardware tools" such as computer control systems, bioreaction and separation devices for eff- tively producing a variety of bioproducts on semi-production scale. New developments in some of these important tools in biochemical engineering are reviewed in articles included in this volume. Wolf-Dieter Deckwer was among the leading biochemical engineers who timely pointed out the necessity of applying these tools in an integrated manner for bioprocess development. By establishing "Integrated Bioprocess Development" as one of the GBF main - search topics as early as 1990 he also actively promoted this idea.

Book Bioprocess Engineering

Download or read book Bioprocess Engineering written by Shijie Liu and published by Newnes. This book was released on 2012-11-21 with total page 1001 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bioprocess Engineering involves the design and development of equipment and processes for the manufacturing of products such as food, feed, pharmaceuticals, nutraceuticals, chemicals, and polymers and paper from biological materials. It also deals with studying various biotechnological processes. "Bioprocess Kinetics and Systems Engineering" first of its kind contains systematic and comprehensive content on bioprocess kinetics, bioprocess systems, sustainability and reaction engineering. Dr. Shijie Liu reviews the relevant fundamentals of chemical kinetics-including batch and continuous reactors, biochemistry, microbiology, molecular biology, reaction engineering, and bioprocess systems engineering- introducing key principles that enable bioprocess engineers to engage in the analysis, optimization, design and consistent control over biological and chemical transformations. The quantitative treatment of bioprocesses is the central theme of this book, while more advanced techniques and applications are covered with some depth. Many theoretical derivations and simplifications are used to demonstrate how empirical kinetic models are applicable to complicated bioprocess systems. - Contains extensive illustrative drawings which make the understanding of the subject easy - Contains worked examples of the various process parameters, their significance and their specific practical use - Provides the theory of bioprocess kinetics from simple concepts to complex metabolic pathways - Incorporates sustainability concepts into the various bioprocesses

Book Medical Engineering

    Book Details:
  • Author : Phil Gilberts
  • Publisher : Freegulls Publishing House
  • Release :
  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 125 pages

Download or read book Medical Engineering written by Phil Gilberts and published by Freegulls Publishing House. This book was released on with total page 125 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This title consists of three books in one, which are the following: 1 - Biomedical Engineering: Biochemical engineering integrates the principles of biology, chemistry, and engineering to develop processes for the large-scale production of valuable biochemicals. This interdisciplinary field plays a crucial role in industries such as pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, food and beverage, and environmental engineering. One of the fundamental aspects of biochemical engineering is fermentation, which involves the controlled growth of microorganisms like bacteria, yeast, or fungi to produce desired compounds. These microorganisms can be genetically engineered or selected for their ability to synthesize specific products, such as antibiotics, vitamins, or biofuels. 2 - Chemical Engineering: Chemical engineering is a multidisciplinary field that integrates principles from chemistry, physics, mathematics, and economics to tackle complex challenges across a diverse range of industries. At its core, chemical engineers focus on efficiently harnessing, transforming, and transporting chemicals, materials, and energy on a large scale. This involves not only designing and optimizing processes but also understanding the fundamental properties of substances and the underlying mechanisms governing their behavior. One of the primary areas of focus for chemical engineers is process design and optimization. They develop innovative processes for the production of chemicals, fuels, pharmaceuticals, and materials, striving to maximize efficiency, minimize waste, and ensure safety. This often involves breaking down complex systems into manageable unit operations, such as distillation, reaction kinetics, heat transfer, and separation techniques, which are then studied and optimized individually to achieve specific goals within a larger process framework. 3 - Informatics: Informatics integrates principles from various disciplines such as computer science, information theory, cognitive science, and social science to analyze and understand complex systems of information. It involves the design, implementation, and application of computational solutions to real-world problems, focusing on both the technical aspects of computing systems and the human aspects of information processing and interaction. Informatics encompasses diverse areas such as bioinformatics, health informatics, business informatics, and geographic information systems, reflecting its broad applicability across different domains.
