Book Progress and Supercomputing in Computational Fluid Dynamics

Download or read book Progress and Supercomputing in Computational Fluid Dynamics written by Murman and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1985 with total page 424 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present volume, with the exception of the introductory chapter, consists of papers delivered at the workshop entitled "The Impact of Supercomputers on the Next Decade of Computational Fluid Dynamics," The workshop, which took place in Jerusalem, Israel during the week of December 16, 1984, was initiated by the National Science Foundation of the USA (NSF), by the Ministry of Science and Development, Israel (IMSD), and co-sponsored by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the Office of Scientific Research of the U.S. Air Force (AFOSR), Tel Aviv University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The introductory chapter attempts to summarize what transpired at the workshop. The genesis of the workshop was an agreement between NSF and Il1S, signed in the spring of 1983, to conduct a series of bi-national work shops and symposia. This workshop represented the first activity spon sored under the agreement. The undersigned were selected by their respective national bodies to act as co-coordinators and organizers of the workshop. The first question that we faced was to decide upon a topic. In the past few years the field of CFD has mushroomed and consequently there have been many meetings, symposia, workshops, congresses, etc.

Book Performance Analysis and Grid Computing

Download or read book Performance Analysis and Grid Computing written by Vladimir Getov and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Past and current research in computer performance analysis has focused primarily on dedicated parallel machines. However, future applications in the area of high-performance computing will not only use individual parallel systems but a large set of networked resources. This scenario of computational and data Grids is attracting a great deal of attention from both computer and computational scientists. In addition to the inherent complexity of parallel machines, the sharing and transparency of the available resources introduces new challenges on performance analysis, techniques, and systems. In order to meet those challenges, a multi-disciplinary approach to the multi-faceted problems of performance is required. New degrees of freedom will come into play with a direct impact on the performance of Grid computing, including wide-area network performance, quality-of-service (QoS), heterogeneity, and middleware systems, to mention only a few.

Book Numerical Modelling of Astrophysical Turbulence

Download or read book Numerical Modelling of Astrophysical Turbulence written by Wolfram Schmidt and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-09-20 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this "SpringerBrief" the author considers the underlying problems and questions that are common to numerical models of turbulence in different astrophysical systems. Turbulence has emerged as an important research topic in several areas of astrophysics. Understanding and modeling turbulence is particularly important for the dynamics of the interstellar medium, but also for the intergalactic medium, as well as in stars. The advancement of methods for numerical simulations of astrophysical turbulence, however, is still challenging because of gravity, strong compressibility, magnetic fields, and other effects. The book begins with a review of general aspects of numerical simulations of turbulence. In the main part the author presents findings from his numerical studies on astrophysical turbulence and discusses the astrophysical implications. He also explains in detail the numerical schemes utilized. Readers will find that this book offers a compact yet comprehensive introduction.

Book The Evolution of Galaxies

    Book Details:
  • Author : Marc Sauvage
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2013-06-29
  • ISBN : 9401733112
  • Pages : 563 pages

Download or read book The Evolution of Galaxies written by Marc Sauvage and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 563 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Galaxies have a history. This has become clear from recent sky surveys which have shown that distant galaxies, formed early in the life of the Universe, differ from the nearby ones. New observational windows at ultraviolet, infrared and millimetric wavelengths (provided by ROSAT, IRAM, IUE, IRAS, ISO) have revealed that galaxies contain a wealth of components: very hot gas, atomic hydrogen, molecules, dust, dark matter ... A significant advance is expected due to new instruments (VLT, FIRST, XMM) which will allow one to explore the most distant Universe. Three Euroconferences have been planned to punctuate this new epoch in galactic research, bringing together specialists in various fields of Astronomy.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We are delighted to present this book which contains the Proceedings of the Fifth International Conference on Computational Fluid Dynamics (ICCFD5), held in Seoul, Korea from July 7 through 11, 2008. The ICCFD series has established itself as the leading international conference series for scientists, mathematicians, and engineers specialized in the computation of fluid flow. In ICCFD5, 5 Invited Lectures and 3 Keynote Lectures were delivered by renowned researchers in the areas of innovative modeling of flow physics, innovative algorithm development for flow simulation, optimization and control, and advanced multidisciplinary - plications. There were a total of 198 contributed abstracts submitted from 25 countries. The executive committee consisting of C. H. Bruneau (France), J. J. Chattot (USA), D. Kwak (USA), N. Satofuka (Japan), and myself, was responsible for selection of papers. Each of the members had a separate subcommittee to carry out the evaluation. As a result of this careful peer review process, 138 papers were accepted for oral presentation and 28 for poster presentation. Among them, 5 (3 oral and 2 poster presentation) papers were withdrawn and 10 (4 oral and 6 poster presentation) papers were not presented. The conference was attended by 201 delegates from 23 countries. The technical aspects of the conference were highly beneficial and informative, while the non-technical aspects were fully enjoyable and memorable. In this book, 3 invited lectures and 1 keynote lecture appear first. Then 99 c- tributed papers are grouped under 21 subject titles which are in alphabetical order.

Book Computational Fluid Dynamics 2002

Download or read book Computational Fluid Dynamics 2002 written by Steve Armfield and published by Springer. This book was released on 2003-04-10 with total page 872 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We are pleased to present the Proceedings of the Second International Conference on Computational Fluid Dynamics held at the University of Sydney, Australia, from July 15 to 19, 2002. The conference was a productive meeting of scientists, mathematicians and engineers involved in the computation of fluid flow. Keynote lectures were presented in the areas of optimisation, algorithms, turbulence and bio-fluid mechanics. Two hundred and fifty abstracts from many countries were received for con sideration. The executive committee, consisting of A. Lerat, M. Napolitano, J.J. Chattot, N. Satofuka and myself, were responsible for the selection of papers. Each of the members had a separate subcommittee to carry out the evaluation. One hundred and seventy papers were selected of which one hundred and fifty two were presented at the conference. All papers that appear in the proceedings have been peer reviewed by a panel of experts (with a minimum of two for every paper) before publication. The conference was attended by 160 delegates with a minimum of late with drawals. The informal and friendly atmosphere provided by the university sur roundings was highly appreciated, and the technical aspects of the conference were stimulating. It is appropriate here to thank Alain Lerat, the retiring secretary of the international scientific committee of the conference. We also wish to welcome J. J. Chattot who is the incoming secretary.
