Book Analysis of Turbulent Boundary Layers

Download or read book Analysis of Turbulent Boundary Layers written by Tuncer Cebeci and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 423 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Analysis of Turbulent Boundary Layers focuses on turbulent flows meeting the requirements for the boundary-layer or thin-shear-layer approximations. Its approach is devising relatively fundamental, and often subtle, empirical engineering correlations, which are then introduced into various forms of describing equations for final solution. After introducing the topic on turbulence, the book examines the conservation equations for compressible turbulent flows, boundary-layer equations, and general behavior of turbulent boundary layers. The latter chapters describe the CS method for calculating two-dimensional and axisymmetric laminar and turbulent boundary layers. This book will be useful to readers who have advanced knowledge in fluid mechanics, especially to engineers who study the important problems of design.

Book Fluid Mechanics for Engineers

Download or read book Fluid Mechanics for Engineers written by Meinhard T. Schobeiri and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-03-27 with total page 517 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The contents of this book covers the material required in the Fluid Mechanics Graduate Core Course (MEEN-621) and in Advanced Fluid Mechanics, a Ph. D-level elective course (MEEN-622), both of which I have been teaching at Texas A&M University for the past two decades. While there are numerous undergraduate fluid mechanics texts on the market for engineering students and instructors to choose from, there are only limited texts that comprehensively address the particular needs of graduate engineering fluid mechanics courses. To complement the lecture materials, the instructors more often recommend several texts, each of which treats special topics of fluid mechanics. This circumstance and the need to have a textbook that covers the materials needed in the above courses gave the impetus to provide the graduate engineering community with a coherent textbook that comprehensively addresses their needs for an advanced fluid mechanics text. Although this text book is primarily aimed at mechanical engineering students, it is equally suitable for aerospace engineering, civil engineering, other engineering disciplines, and especially those practicing professionals who perform CFD-simulation on a routine basis and would like to know more about the underlying physics of the commercial codes they use. Furthermore, it is suitable for self study, provided that the reader has a sufficient knowledge of calculus and differential equations. In the past, because of the lack of advanced computational capability, the subject of fluid mechanics was artificially subdivided into inviscid, viscous (laminar, turbulent), incompressible, compressible, subsonic, supersonic and hypersonic flows.

Book Numerical Solution of the Equations for Compressible Laminar Transitional and Turbulent Boundary Layers and Comparisons with Experimental Data

Download or read book Numerical Solution of the Equations for Compressible Laminar Transitional and Turbulent Boundary Layers and Comparisons with Experimental Data written by Julius E. Harris and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A numerical method for solving the equations for laminar, transitional, and turbulent compressible boundary layers for either planar or axisymmetric flows is presented. The fully developed turbulent region is treated by replacing the Reynolds stress terms with an eddy viscosity model. The mean properties of the transitional boundary layer are calculated by multiplying the eddy viscosity by an intermittency function based on the statistical production and growth of the turbulent spots. A specifiable turbulent Prandtl number relates the turbulent flux of heat to the eddy viscosity. A three-point implicit finite-difference scheme is used to solve the system of equations. The momentum and energy equations are solved simultaneously without iteration. Numerous test cases are compared with experimental data for supersonic and hypersonic flows; these cases include flows with both favorable and mildly unfavorable pressure gradient histories, mass flux at the wall, and traverse curvature.

Book Genmix

    Book Details:
  • Author : D Brian Spalding
  • Publisher : Elsevier
  • Release : 2014-05-18
  • ISBN : 1483188175
  • Pages : 393 pages

Download or read book Genmix written by D Brian Spalding and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-05-18 with total page 393 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Genmix: A General Computer Program for Two-dimensional Parabolic Phenomena explains a computer program called GENMIX. The main intention of the program is to be used as a tool of instructions. The name of the program is a mixture of two considerations: its generality and its concern for mixing processes. The book aims to help the potential user to understand the physical and mathematical basis of the topic computer program. It is also the aim of the book to make the program applicable to practical problems. The book is arranged in such a way as to parallel a course of lectures and associated computer-workshop sessions wherein the student is allowed to do some elementary computations as soon as he has gained some knowledge of the method. The book contains the mathematical, physical, and computer-coding aspects of the program. Concepts such as the boundary layer, two-dimensional, and steady- flow are defined and discussed in depth. The text will be a useful tool for computer instructors and students.

Book Computational Techniques for Fluid Dynamics 2

Download or read book Computational Techniques for Fluid Dynamics 2 written by Clive A.J. Fletcher and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 503 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose and organisation of this book are described in the preface to the first edition (1988). In preparing this edition minor changes have been made, par ticularly to Chap. 1 (Vol. 1) to keep it reasonably current, and to upgrade the treatment of specific techniques, particularly in Chaps. 12-14 and 16-18. How ever, the rest of the book (Vols. 1 and 2) has required only minor modification to clarify the presentation and to modify or replace individual problems to make them more effective. The answers to the problems are available in Solutions Manual jor Computational Techniques jor Fluid Dynamics by K. Srinivas and C. A. J. Fletcher, published by Springer-Verlag, Heidelberg, 1991. The computer programs have also been reviewed and tidied up. These are available on an IBM compatible floppy disc direct from the author. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the many readers for their usually generous comments about the first edition and particularly those readers who went to the trouble of drawing specific errors to my attention. In this revised edi tion considerable effort has been made to remove a number of minor errors that had found their way into the original. I express the hope that no errors remain but welcome communication that will help me improve future editions. In preparing this revised edition I have received considerable help from Dr. K.
