Book Three Dimensional Flow in the Root Region of Wind Turbine Rotors

Download or read book Three Dimensional Flow in the Root Region of Wind Turbine Rotors written by Galih Bangga and published by kassel university press GmbH. This book was released on 2018-06-20 with total page 183 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the state of the art in the analyses of three-dimensional flow over rotating wind turbine blades. Systematic studies for wind turbine rotors with different sizes were carried out numerically employing three different simulation approaches, namely the Euler, URANS and DDES methods. The main mechanisms of the lift augmentation in the blade inboard region are described in detail. The physical relations between the inviscid and viscous effects are presented and evaluated, emphasizing the influence of the flow curvature on the resulting pressure distributions. Detailed studies concerning the lift augmentation for large wind turbine rotors are considered as thick inboard airfoils characterized by massive separation are desired to stronger contribute to power production. Special attention is given to the analyses of wind turbine loads and flow field that can be helpful for the interpretation of the occurring physical phenomena. The book is aimed at students, researchers, engineers and physicists dealing with wind engineering problems, but also for a wider audience involved in flow computations.

This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains 20 contributions to the 1st GAMM-Seminar at ICA Stuttgart, which was held in Stuttgart, October 12 - 13, 1995. In the field of environmental sciences, numerical procedures for the simulation of ecological problems are growing increasingly topical. The solution of typical problems in environmental research is closely connected with numerical supercomputing. The main subject of the seminar was the modeling and numerical simulation of ground water and soil water. Further topics were multi-scale modeling, special discretization schemes, adaptivity, multi-grid methods, heterogenity, parameter identification, homogenization, density driven groundwater flow, and coupling of transport and chemistry.

Book Computation of Three Dimensional Time Dependent Flow Using the Euler Equations

Download or read book Computation of Three Dimensional Time Dependent Flow Using the Euler Equations written by J. L. Jacocks and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The development of a computer program to solve the three-dimensional, unsteady Euler equations is described. A finite volume method in Cartesian coordinates is used with the MacCormack predictor-corrector algorithm. The grid imposed on the computational domain is topologically equivalent to a regular grid on a cube. The resulting control volumes are hexahedrones with quadrilateral faces. Solutions are presented to show the accuracy of the computer program and to demonstrate the degree of flexibility with respect to complex model geometry. (Author).

Book MEGADESIGN and MegaOpt German Initiatives for Aerodynamic Simulation and Optimization in Aircraft Design

Book excerpt: This volume contains results of the German CFD initiative MEGADESIGN which combines CFD development activities from DLR, universities and aircraft industry. Based on the DLR flow solvers FLOWer and TAU the main objectives of the four-years project is to ensure the prediction accuracy with a guaranteed error bandwidth for certain aircraft configurations at design conditions, to reduce the simulation turn-around time for large-scale applications significantly, to improve the reliability of the flow solvers for full aircraft configurations in the complete flight regime, to extend the flow solvers to allow for multidisciplinary simulations and to establish numerical shape optimization as a vital tool within the aircraft design process. This volume highlights recent improvements and enhancements of the flow solvers as well as new developments with respect to aerodynamic and multidisciplinary shape optimization. Improved numerical simulation capabilities are demonstrated by several industrial applications.

Book Mathematical and Computational Methods for Compressible Flow

Download or read book Mathematical and Computational Methods for Compressible Flow written by Miloslav Feistauer and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 2003 with total page 560 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is concerned with mathematical and numerical methods for compressible flow. It aims to provide the reader with a sufficiently detailed and extensive, mathematically precise, but comprehensible guide, through a wide spectrum of mathematical and computational methods used in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) for the numerical simulation of compressible flow. Up-to-date techniques applied in the numerical solution of inviscid as well as viscous compressible flow on unstructured meshes are explained, thus allowing the simulation of complex three-dimensional technically relevant problems. Among some of the methods addressed are finite volume methods using approximate Riemann solvers, finite element techniques, such as the streamline diffusion and the discontinuous Galerkin methods, and combined finite volume - finite element schemes. The book gives a complex insight into the numerics of compressible flow, covering the development of numerical schemes and their theoretical mathematical analysis, their verification on test problems and use in solving practical engineering problems. The book will be helpful to specialists coming into contact with CFD - pure and applied mathematicians, aerodynamists, engineers, physicists and natural scientists. It will also be suitable for advanced undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate students of mathematics and technical sciences.
