Book Comparative Study of Dimensional Accuracy of Three Denture Base Resin

Download or read book Comparative Study of Dimensional Accuracy of Three Denture Base Resin written by Naveen Yadav and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2012-07 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Poor adaptations of acrylic resin denture bases to the supporting tissues markedly decrease denture retention. Several denture base resin and processing techniques have been introduced to the profession, each claiming to produce a more accurate base. Microwave processing techniques has been introduced claims to minimize the dimensional changes. This purpose of this study was to compare the dimensional accuracy of three denture base resins when processed both by conventional water bath method and by use of microwave energy. Three Poly (MethylMethacrylate) heat cure resins selected for this study. These resins were processed by conventional water bath technique for 1 1/2 hours at 75 degree & half hour at 100 degree and by microwave energy for 3 mins at 500W. The measurements of acrylic resin denture base specimens were compared with the measurements of master metal die dimension keeping it as a standard measurement. The mean values of the difference in the points compared were calculated, & compared to each other to determine if there was a statistically significant difference between them at the 0.05 probability level using the students' independent test for pooled variances

Book Effect of Cooling Procedures Over Linear Dimensional Changes in PMMA

Download or read book Effect of Cooling Procedures Over Linear Dimensional Changes in PMMA written by Aqeel Ibrahim and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2013 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Denture bases are commonly made from acrylic resins, which were introduced by Dr. Walter Wright back in 1937. Among these, polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) is the most commonly used. PMMA material is mostly processed by wet heat and compression molding techniques, which deliver dentures with acceptable mechanical properties. However, certain dimensional changes are known to occur in acrylic resin during or after its processing. These changes hold clinical significance because for better adaptation to oral tissues, denture base material must have dimensional accuracy during and after its processing. However, inaccuracies tend to occur due to unavoidable changes during fabrication such as thermal expansion on heating, contraction on cooling and polymerization shrinkage. The purported significance of this study is to find out the most suitable cooling procedure for achieving maximum dimensional accuracy following a standard heating cycle. This will lead to the fabrication of a denture which will have better retention, support, stability.

Book A Comparison of Palatal Adaptation in Acrylic Resin Denture Bases Using Conventional and Anchored Processing Techniques

Download or read book A Comparison of Palatal Adaptation in Acrylic Resin Denture Bases Using Conventional and Anchored Processing Techniques written by Gayle A. Laughlin and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The accuracy of a complete denture base to its supporting tissues is of paramount importance to the fit, function, and health of the oral tissues. Polymerization shrinkage is an inherent characteristic of acrylic resin which can introduce discrepancies in the adaptation of the denture base, especially in the posterior palatal area. The purpose of this investigation was to determine if there was a statistically significant difference in the palatal adaptation of denture bases to their casts as a consequence of palatal shape, presence of mechanical anchoring, or the interaction of these two variables as measured at the vestibule, ridge, lateral palate and mid palate. Forty-eight denture bases were processed using the compression molding technique with Lucitone 199. The master casts vaied by steep or shallow palatal form and the presence or absence of mechanical anchoring holes placed in the land area adjacent to the posterior border of the base. The bases on their casts were sectioned at the posterior border area after processing and evaluated for exactness of adaptation. The gap at the interface of the base and the cast was measured at specific mediolateral locations. Analysis of the interface gap data was done by a three-way ANOVA. A statistically significant decrease of gap distance and improvement of adaptation for both shallow and steep denture bases were observed with the anchoring technique. There was ano statistically significant difference in the magnitude of the interface gap between the steep and shallow palate forms. However, the shallow forms had a wider gap area reaching from ridge to ridge, whereas the steep forms had a gap area confined mainly to the midline. The clinical success and retention of a maxiliary denture is directly related to the intimate fit of the base in the posterior palatal region. The simple procedure of placing anchorage in the master cast before processing has been shown to improve the adaptation and fit of the base in the critical posterior palatal area.
