Book excerpt: O objetivo do presente estudo foi avaliar comparativamente a resposta tecidual a cimentos obturadores de canais radiculares à base de silicone (RoekoSeal) e resina epóxi (AH Plus). Foram utilizados 24 ratos machos da linhagem Wistar, pesando entre 250 e 350 gramas, sendo realizados em cada rato dois implantes de tubos de polietileno contendo os cimentos a serem avaliados e um controle, no qual o tubo foi implantado vazio. Após os períodos experimentais de 07, 15, 30 e 60 dias, os animais foram levados à óbito induzido e fragmentos teciduais foram coletados e imediatamente imersos em formol a 10% tamponado por 48 horas à temperatura ambiente, sendo desta forma, realizado o processamento histológico, obtendo-se cortes semi-seriados posteriormente analisados em microscópio de luz, observando-se o grau de reação inflamatória, presença ou não de necrose, de macrófagos e células gigantes assim como a espessura da cápsula fibrosa. Foi possível observar que aos 7 dias o RoeKoSeal apresentou infiltrado inflamatório linfoplasmocitário discreto e o AH Plus infiltrado inflamatório linfoplasmocitário moderado, aos 15 dias o RoekoSeal apresentou reação inflamatória discreta, enquanto a do AH Plus foi intensa, com reação de corpo estranho em um dos casos. Aos 30 dias, o primeiro manteve-se com resposta inflamatória discreta e o segundo moderada, sendo aos 60 dias ausente para o RoekoSeal e discreta para o AH Plus. Ainda foi possível observar que em todos os períodos houve extravasamento de material para o cimento AH Plus. O grupo controle apresentou reação inflamatória discreta em todos os intervalos. Pôde-se concluir que ambos materiais tiveram biocompatibilidade aceitável, porém com comportamento consideravelmente superior do RoekoSeal nos períodos analisados quando relacionado ao grupo controle e ao AH Plus, o qual teve reações inflamatórias de maior intensidade.
