Download or read book The Diabetic Foot written by Aristidis Veves and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-09-05 with total page 515 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the fourth edition of this gold-standard title, a distinguished panel of experts provides a thorough update of the significant improvements in our understanding of diabetic foot physiology and its clinical management. Divided into three sections, the first part focuses on clinical features and diagnosis; the second on pathophysiology; and the third on the management of diabetic foot problems. In addition to updating all previous chapters, several new contributions have been added, reflecting advances in our understanding of the causes of diabetic foot ulcers and efforts to develop new and more effective therapies. The authors, many practicing at the famous Joslin-Beth Israel Deaconess Foot Center, again illuminate the successful new multidisciplinary approach now clearly required for successful treatment of the diabetic foot. Drawing on the experiences of diabetologists, podiatrists, vascular surgeons, infectious disease specialists, orthotists, plastic and orthopedic surgeons, The Diabetic Foot: Medical and Surgical Management, 4th Edition expertly describes standard techniques and current methods derived from the most recent data. This updated edition will be of significant value to all physicians and researchers with interest in a state-of-the-art understanding of the diabetic foot.
Download or read book Covalent Organic Frameworks written by Atsushi Nagai and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2019-12-19 with total page 154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rational synthesis of extended arrays of organic matter in bulk, solution, crystals, and thin films has always been a paramount goal of chemistry. The classical synthetic tools to obtain long-range regularity are, however, limited to noncovalent interactions, which usually yield structurally more random products. Hence, a combination of porosity and regularity in organic covalently bonded materials requires not only the design of molecular building blocks that allow for growth into a nonperturbed, regular geometry but also a condensation mechanism that progresses under reversible, thermodynamic, self-optimizing conditions. Covalent organic frameworks (COFs), a variety of 2D crystalline porous materials composed of light elements, resemble an sp2-carbon-based graphene sheet but have a different molecular skeleton formed by orderly linkage of building blocks to constitute a flat organic sheet. COFs have attracted considerable attention in the past decade because of their versatile applications in gas storage and separation, catalysis, sensing, drug delivery, and optoelectronic materials development. Compared to other porous materials, COFs allow for atomically precise control of their architectures by changing the structure of their building blocks, whereby the shapes and sizes of their pores can be well-tuned. Covalent Organic Frameworks is a compilation of different topics in COF research, from COF design and synthesis, crystallization, and structural linkages to the theory of gas sorption and various applications of COFs, such as heterogeneous catalysts, energy storage (e.g., semiconductors and batteries), and biomedicine. This handbook will appeal to anyone interested in nanotechnology and new materials of gas adsorption and storage, heterogeneous catalysts, electronic devices, and biomedical devices.

Download or read book Essentials of Medical Geology written by Olle Selinus and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-30 with total page 808 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Essentials of Medical Geology reviews the essential concepts and practical tools required to tackle environmental and public health problems. It is organized into four main sections. The first section deals with the fundamentals of environmental biology, the natural and anthropogenic sources of health elements that impact health and illustrate key biogeochemical transformations. The second section looks at the geological processes influencing human exposure to specific elements, such as radon, arsenic, fluorine, selenium and iodine. The third section presents the concepts and techniques of pathology, toxicology and epidemiology that underpin investigations into the human health effects of exposure to naturally occurring elements. The last section provides a toolbox of analytical approaches to environmental research and medical geology investigations. Essentials of Medical Geology was first published in 2005 and has since won three prestigious rewards. The book has been recognized as a key book in both medical and geology fields and is widely used as textbook and reference book in these fields. For this revised edition, editors and authors have updated the content that evolved a lot during 2005 and added two new chapters, on public health, and agriculture and health. This updated volume can now continue to be used as a textbook and reference book for all who are interested in this important topic and its impacts the health and wellbeing of many millions of people all over the world. · Addresses key topics at the intersection of environmental science and human health · Developed by 60 international experts from 20 countries and edited by professionals from the International Medical Geology Association (IMGA) · Written in non-technical language for a broad spectrum of readers, ranging from students and professional researchers to policymakers and the general public · Includes color illustrations throughout, references for further investigation and other aids to the reader
Download or read book Soft Material Enabled Electronics for Medicine Healthcare and Human Machine Interfaces written by Jae-Woong Jeong and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2020-03-13 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Soft material-enabled electronics offer distinct advantage, over conventional rigid and bulky devices, for numerous wearable and implantable applications. Soft materials allow for seamless integration with skin and tissues due to enhanced mechanical flexibility and stretchability. Wearable devices, such as sensors, offer continuous, real-time monitoring of biosignals and movements, which can be applied in rehabilitation and diagnostics, among other applications. Soft implantable electronics offer similar functionalities, but with improved compatibility with human tissues. Biodegradable soft implantable electronics are also being developed for transient monitoring, such as in the weeks following surgery. To further advance soft electronics, materials, integration strategies, and fabrication techniques are being developed. This paper reviews recent progress in these areas, toward the development of soft material-enabled electronics for medicine, healthcare, and human-machine interfaces.
