Book Parallel Computer Organization and Design

Download or read book Parallel Computer Organization and Design written by Michel Dubois and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2012-08-30 with total page 561 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Teaching fundamental design concepts and the challenges of emerging technology, this textbook prepares students for a career designing the computer systems of the future. In-depth coverage of complexity, power, reliability and performance, coupled with treatment of parallelism at all levels, including ILP and TLP, provides the state-of-the-art training that students need. The whole gamut of parallel architecture design options is explained, from core microarchitecture to chip multiprocessors to large-scale multiprocessor systems. All the chapters are self-contained, yet concise enough that the material can be taught in a single semester, making it perfect for use in senior undergraduate and graduate computer architecture courses. The book is also teeming with practical examples to aid the learning process, showing concrete applications of definitions. With simple models and codes used throughout, all material is made open to a broad range of computer engineering/science students with only a basic knowledge of hardware and software.

Book Nonlinear System Identification

Download or read book Nonlinear System Identification written by Stephen A. Billings and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2013-07-29 with total page 611 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nonlinear System Identification: NARMAX Methods in the Time, Frequency, and Spatio-Temporal Domains describes a comprehensive framework for the identification and analysis of nonlinear dynamic systems in the time, frequency, and spatio-temporal domains. This book is written with an emphasis on making the algorithms accessible so that they can be applied and used in practice. Includes coverage of: The NARMAX (nonlinear autoregressive moving average with exogenous inputs) model The orthogonal least squares algorithm that allows models to be built term by term where the error reduction ratio reveals the percentage contribution of each model term Statistical and qualitative model validation methods that can be applied to any model class Generalised frequency response functions which provide significant insight into nonlinear behaviours A completely new class of filters that can move, split, spread, and focus energy The response spectrum map and the study of sub harmonic and severely nonlinear systems Algorithms that can track rapid time variation in both linear and nonlinear systems The important class of spatio-temporal systems that evolve over both space and time Many case study examples from modelling space weather, through identification of a model of the visual processing system of fruit flies, to tracking causality in EEG data are all included to demonstrate how easily the methods can be applied in practice and to show the insight that the algorithms reveal even for complex systems NARMAX algorithms provide a fundamentally different approach to nonlinear system identification and signal processing for nonlinear systems. NARMAX methods provide models that are transparent, which can easily be analysed, and which can be used to solve real problems. This book is intended for graduates, postgraduates and researchers in the sciences and engineering, and also for users from other fields who have collected data and who wish to identify models to help to understand the dynamics of their systems.

  • Publisher : Georgetown University Press
  • Release : 2012-04-03
  • ISBN : 9781589018952
  • Pages : 328 pages

Download or read book Why Peace Fails written by Charles T. Call and published by Georgetown University Press. This book was released on 2012-04-03 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why does peace fail? More precisely, why do some countries that show every sign of having successfully emerged from civil war fall once again into armed conflict? What explains why peace "sticks" after some wars but not others? In this illuminating study, Charles T. Call examines the factors behind fifteen cases of civil war recurrence in Africa, Asia, the Caucasus, and Latin America. He argues that widely touted explanations of civil war—such as poverty, conflict over natural resources, and weak states—are far less important than political exclusion. Call’s study shows that inclusion of former opponents in postwar governance plays a decisive role in sustained peace. Why Peace Fails ultimately suggests that the international community should resist the temptation to prematurely withdraw resources and peacekeepers after a transition from war. Instead, international actors must remain fully engaged with postwar elected governments, ensuring that they make room for former enemies.
