Book The Domestic Structure of European Community Policy Making in West Germany Routledge Revivals

Download or read book The Domestic Structure of European Community Policy Making in West Germany Routledge Revivals written by Simon Bulmer and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2015-06-11 with total page 410 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Federal Republic of Germany’s position in the European Community had been described as one of interdependence, penetration and integration. Of the three terms this research addresses itself most directly to penetration: to the links between the German political system and policy-making at the Community level. These links operated in two directions. Thus membership for the European Community (EC) imposed certain constraints on German domestic policy-making. Although this research, first published in 1986, concentrates on the structural inter-relationship between the German political system and EC decisions, its main focus of attention is the articulation of German ‘interests’ in the EC policy process. This book will be of interest to students of politics and history.

  • Pages : 1069 pages

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Empower your students to become part of the solution. With a clear and upbeat voice, author Anna Leon-Guerrero’s thought-provoking overview of social problems challenges readers to understand and recognize social problems in their communities and inspires them to become part of the solution. The Fifth Edition of Social Problems: Community, Policy, and Social Action goes beyond the typical presentation of contemporary social problems and their consequences by emphasizing the importance and effectiveness of community involvement to achieve real solutions. With an overarching focus on social inequalities and policy, this proven text provides a platform for discussion that encourages critical thinking and inspires hope. “The extra emphasis on social action and movements is a real strength…I like that the three major perspectives are used in each chapter as I feel many texts just put that in the first chapter and then forget about it.” —Todd Michael Callais, University of Cincinnati-Blue Ash

Book Public Policy in the Community

Download or read book Public Policy in the Community written by Marilyn Taylor and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2011-07-13 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The idea of community involvement and empowerment has become central to politics in recent years. Governments, keen to reduce public spending and increase civic involvement, believe active communities are essential for tackling a range of social, economic and political challenges, such as crime, sustainable development and the provision of care. Public Policy in the Community examines the way that community and the ideas associated with it – civil society, social capital, mutuality, networks – have been understood and applied from the 1960s to the present day. Marilyn Taylor examines the issues involved in putting the community at the heart of policy making, and considers the political and social implications of such a practice. Drawing on a wide range of relevant examples from around the world, the book considers the success of existing approaches and the prospects for further developments. Thoroughly updated to reflect advances in research and practice, the new edition of this important text gives a state-of-the-art assessment of the place of community in public policy.

Book Making Trade Policy in the European Community

Download or read book Making Trade Policy in the European Community written by J.P. Hayes and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-07-27 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'Commentators often see wide differences between policy as they consider how it should be conducted and how it actually emerges. Those who are involved in making trade policy, for their part, commonly accuse commentators of 'not living in the real world'. There is often a dialogue of the deaf. Part of Mr. Hayes' object has been to try to build bridges between practitioners and commentators, with suggestions for ways of improving the policy-making process in the future.'Hugh Corbet, Consultant, Trade Policy Research Centre, London. The external trade policies of the European Community are of great importance, both for its own people and for trading partners in the remainder of the world. Yet the processes by which the European Community of twelve countries attempts to reach agreement have remained somewhat mysterious. What has been the relative influence of principles of policy and of various political, bureaucratic and private interests, at both the Community and the national levels? This volume is based on a number of case-studies, and also contains chapters on the formation of attitudes to trade policy in three of the largest countries of the Community, Germany, France and the United Kingdom.

Book Understanding State Aid Policy in the European Community

Download or read book Understanding State Aid Policy in the European Community written by Phedon Nicolaides and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2023-12-11 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why do the Member States of the European Union still grant aid and is that aid compatible with the objective of integration which should result in a better allocation of resources? The main purpose of this book is to explain the principles and methods of EC state aid policy in a manner which is both accessible and useful to practitioners and policy makers, by bringing together contributions from officials (both Community and national), industry representatives, and academics. In particular, it examines both theory on the role and objective of public assistance and current practice controlling such assistance. It addresses the issue of state aid from economic, legal and administrative perspectives and offers detailed information on current practice through case studies. It also considers likely future developments in the Community framework of state aid control. Finally, this book identifies major weaknesses in the present system of state aid rules, and paves the way for a proper economic analysis of the effects of forty years of state aid policy in the European Community.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Extract: Present trends in the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) of the European Community (EC), particularly increasing expenditures for agricultural support, will seriously affect the EC's ability to meet other policy needs and hinder enlargement of the Community to include Spain and Portugal. EC policymakers must either keep prices low directly or with producer taxes, or limit quantities covered by support measures. This report examines directions which the CAP may take in view of budgetary and enlargement pressures and indicates potential changes in EC policy.

Book Agricultural Policy Formation in the European Community

Download or read book Agricultural Policy Formation in the European Community written by M. Petit and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Understanding why agricultural policies of developed countries are what they are is critical on several accounts for the developed countries as a group and for individual countries. It is important because the inter-dependencies among national agricultural policies are so numerous, as illustrated by the ongoing agricultural trade confrontation between the United States and the European Community; confrontation that is vividly expressed in the current subsidy war between the two trading blocs. The stakes for developing countries are also very high because the domestic agricultural policies of these two giants have a considerable influence on the international markets of major agricultural commodities.Studying why policies are what they are is an important research issue: legitimate in its own right on scientific grounds and relevant for any institution dealing with agricultural policies. Thus, it is only fitting that an international research institute dealing with food policy should analyze developed country policies and actions. This book is a further development of a research report by Michel Petit, ``Determinants of Agricultural Policies in the United States and the European Community'', published by the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), and is written by a team of eminent European scholars from a variety of organisations called together by Michel Petit and working under his leadership. Concentrating on the policy process in the European Community, this research provides useful insights on the influence of domestic, economic and political factors in shaping the positions of member countries in Community negotiations and on the process leading to a Community policy decision.
