Book Transforming Theological Education 2nd Edition

Download or read book Transforming Theological Education 2nd Edition written by Perry Shaw and published by Langham Global Library. This book was released on 2022-01-31 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For several decades concern has been expressed about the need for greater integration and contextual significance in the curricular design of theological education. In addition, there has been a growing awareness of the role theological schools should play in strengthening the missional vision and practice of local churches. Drawing on Dr. Perry Shaw’s experience as faculty member, educational engineer, and acting academic dean for Arab Baptist Theological Seminary, Transforming Theological Education provides theoretical foundations and practical principles for purposeful curriculum design, as well as tools for facilitating integrated and contextually significant learning in the classroom. This updated second edition has been reorganized for thematic clarity and expanded to provide a stronger foundation for thinking theologically – rather than just educationally – about theological education. It also contains a wider range of curricular examples from innovative theological programs around the world, along with practical advice for implementing change in change- resistant environments. This handbook continues to be a one-of-a-kind resource for theological educators and all those involved in Christian leadership training.

In addition there has been a growing awareness of the role theological schools should play in strengthening the missional vision and practice of local churches. Since 2008 the Arab Baptist Theological Seminary in Lebanon has been engaged in an ongoing experiment in the design and implementation of an integrated and contextually driven curriculum. Book Understanding and Developing Theological Education

Download or read book Understanding and Developing Theological Education written by Bernhard Ott and published by Langham Publishing. This book was released on 2016-01-31 with total page 475 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Historically education has been driven from behind – the history, and above – the educational institution. Traditions and adherence requirements have led to inflexible models of school leadership that are focused on administration and rife with educational politics. In contrast, today’s theological landscape needs institutions with a grassroots-driven educational system, looking to a future that is biblically and theologically grounded. This publication, an English translation from the original German focuses on the leadership and curriculum development required for such a paradigm shift. Ott comprehensively assesses trends in current theological education across the world with detailed reference to wider trends in global tertiary education. Written primarily for those in leadership roles at theological schools and training institutions, this handbook is an essential resource for equipping the next generation of leaders in theological education.

Book Theological Education in Asia

Download or read book Theological Education in Asia written by Johan Ferreira and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2020-09-29 with total page 62 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book presents a theological basis for theological education based on the Great Commission (Matt 28:18-20) within the context of Asia. The first part of the book asserts that theological education that is sound and biblical fulfills the purpose of the Great Commission by making disciples of all nations. The second part of the book considers the key text on discipleship in Matthew 16:24, emphasizing that suffering is an essential aspect of following Jesus. Discipleship and a theology of suffering must feature prominently in theological education. These crucial aspects of the Christian life are often missing in the teaching of pastors and churches today. Therefore, there is an urgent need in theological education to highlight and to remedy these deficiencies. The book also contains three appendices that are valuable for theological educators: a set of graduate attributes for theological students, a code of professional ethics for ministers, and a statement on spiritual abuse. The book provides invaluable reading for theological educators, church leaders, elders, pastors, and teachers.

Book Theological Education and Christian Scholarship for Human Flourishing

Download or read book Theological Education and Christian Scholarship for Human Flourishing written by Celucien L. Joseph and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2022-09-14 with total page 359 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the interconnection of theological education and Christian scholarship, cultural and theological hermeneutics, pedagogy and community knowledge, democracy and citizenship. Yet, the three major disciplines or discourses covered in this work include multicultural education, theology, and hermeneutics through the lens of human flourishing and the concept of the good life. From this angle, this project is written from three different methods and approaches that intersect with each other: a theology of contextualization, a hermeneutics of interculturality, and a pedagogy of cultural literacy and transformative community knowledge. The book advances the idea that theological education should be the starting point to foster candid conversations about the importance of democracy and human rights, civic engagement and the political life, inclusion and diversity, and pluralism and difference in our multicultural society. The book uses the tools of multicultural education and cultural knowledge to enhance democracy and promote fundamental human virtues that would sustain the good life and human flourishing in the world—in the Aristotelian sense and in the Socratic idea of local and world citizenship. Finally, this text offers an alternative vision to contemporary theological education, to deconstruct the white, male, and Eurocentric narratives of theological education and Christian scholarship.

Download or read book The Fruits of Listening written by Colleen C. B. Weaver and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2024-10-31 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Theological seminaries and Bible institutes find themselves at the crossroads of preserving biblical faithfulness and of maintaining contextual relevance. What does faithful contextual relevance look like? How can theological institutions steer a course that will engage and serve the church through the men and women they equip for ministry and service? In pursuit of answers to those questions, a qualitative research project was designed and conducted in the Protestant evangelical community in Madrid, Spain. It presented a unique situation where seminary faculty and students and church attenders could be invited to share their perspectives, experiences, and hopes for transformative theological education. Congregants offered a vision of theological education that equips leaders to relationally empower the church to give witness in the society. Intentional listening was prioritized on three seminary campuses where faculty and students shared their stories of theological formation and described the unique contextual challenges they face as Protestant believers in Spain. They voiced narratives of how they must find ways to persevere amid pervasive scarcity and in a rapidly changing society. Seminaries and churches around the world may recognize details of their own experiences in these stories and, importantly, receive resources for relevant contextualization in this work.
