Book Communication and Localization in UWB Sensor Networks

Download or read book Communication and Localization in UWB Sensor Networks written by Heinrich Lücken and published by Logos Verlag Berlin GmbH. This book was released on 2013 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this thesis, a novel sensor network paradigm is proposed and studied, inspired by the fusion of wireless communication, localization and imaging. Wireless sensor networks will open a fascinating world of ubiquitous and seamless connectivity not only between individuals but also between devices and objects in our daily life. The key to this vision is a universal low-power, low-complexity and low-cost transceiver unit that provides scalable data communication as well as location and environmental information. Ultra-Wideband (UWB) technology with its rich design space can meet the challenging requirements of future wireless sensor networks. This is the consequence of a paradigm shift compared to narrowband communication: due to the huge bandwidth available, we can trade off bandwidth efficiency against other figures of merit. The major design criterion is not data rate anymore, but rather power consumption and hardware complexity. Within the group of hardware-aware system designs, UWB impulse radio with energy detection receivers are of particular relevance and well known for their efficient implementation. The contribution of this thesis is the comprehensive study of sensor networks with generalized energy detection receivers, where we focus on innovative and efficient approaches for communication and localization and their synergy.

Book Localization in Underwater Sensor Networks

Download or read book Localization in Underwater Sensor Networks written by Jing Yan and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-10-27 with total page 231 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ocean covers 70.8% of the Earth’s surface, and it plays an important role in supporting all life on Earth. Nonetheless, more than 80% of the ocean’s volume remains unmapped, unobserved and unexplored. In this regard, Underwater Sensor Networks (USNs), which offer ubiquitous computation, efficient communication and reliable control, are emerging as a promising solution to understand and explore the ocean. In order to support the application of USNs, accurate position information from sensor nodes is required to correctly analyze and interpret the data sampled. However, the openness and weak communication characteristics of USNs make underwater localization much more challenging in comparison to terrestrial sensor networks. In this book, we focus on the localization problem in USNs, taking into account the unique characteristics of the underwater environment. This problem is of considerable importance, since fundamental guidance on the design and analysis of USN localization is very limited at present. To this end, we first introduce the network architecture of USNs and briefly review previous approaches to the localization of USNs. Then, the asynchronous clock, node mobility, stratification effect, privacy preserving and attack detection are considered respectively and corresponding localization schemes are developed. Lastly, the book’s rich implications provide guidance on the design of future USN localization schemes. The results in this book reveal from a system perspective that underwater localization accuracy is closely related to the communication protocol and optimization estimator. Researchers, scientists and engineers in the field of USNs can benefit greatly from this book, which provides a wealth of information, useful methods and practical algorithms to help understand and explore the ocean.

Book Node Localization in Wireless Sensor Networks

Download or read book Node Localization in Wireless Sensor Networks written by Xue Zhang and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-06-01 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In sensor network applications, measured data are often meaningful only when the location is accurately known. In this booklet, we study research problems associated with node localization in wireless sensor networks. We describe sensor network localization problems in terms of a detection and estimation framework and we emphasize specifically a cooperative process where sensors with known locations are used to localize nodes at unknown locations. In this class of problems, even if the location of a node is known, the wireless links and transmission modalities between two nodes may be unknown. In this case, sensor nodes are used to detect the location and estimate pertinent data transmission activities between nodes. In addition to the broader problem of sensor localization, this booklet studies also specific localization measurements such as time of arrival (TOA), received signal strength (RSS), and direction of arrival (DOA). The sequential localization algorithm, which uses a subset of sensor nodes to estimate nearby sensor nodes' locations is discussed in detail. Extensive bibliography is given for those readers who want to delve further into specific topics.
