Book Conflicting Integration

Download or read book Conflicting Integration written by Elli Louka and published by Intersentia nv. This book was released on 2004 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a comprehensive explanatory framework for understanding the European Community environmental law. It looks behind the technicalities of the European Union environmental law as it explains the purpose and effects of Community's rulemaking. The proposed explanatory framework is used to analyze several environmental issues such as air pollution, water pollution, waste management and biodiversity protection as well as strategic, planning and economic instruments and to provide normative direction for the future development of EC law. This book is innovative in that it examines environmental issues from both a Community and an international perspective exploring the inter-connection between International Law and Community rulemaking. This book is an indispensable source for those who wish to understand EC environmental law, students, scholars and practitioners of EC law, environmental law, international law and policy.

Book excerpt: This Directory means that a whole range of built environment professionals need never be caught out by the perversities of policy – in its formulation or on its journey into the real life of you and me. To have in one place the means of not only burrowing down into any one policy, but also of exploring the interconnections is a precious resource for any professional - ‘sustainability literate’ or not. Carefully designed to facilitate access for a diverse range of stakeholders, it covers international, European, British and local policies in key built environment themes, and develops their inter-relationship to sustainable development. The Directory addresses each theme in a series of tables which summarise the policy purpose and also provide web-links to view the specific policy documents. Book Waste Management for the Food Industries

Download or read book Waste Management for the Food Industries written by Ioannis S. Arvanitoyannis and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2010-07-28 with total page 1096 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The continuously increasing human population, has resulted in a huge demand for processed and packaged foods. As a result of this demand, large amounts of water, air, electricity and fuel are consumed on a daily basis for food processing, transportation and preservation purposes. Although not one of the most heavily polluting, the food industry does contribute to the increase in volume of waste produced as well as to the energy expended to do so. For the first time, nine separate food industry categories are thoroughly investigated in Waste Management for the Food Industries in an effort to help combat this already acute problem. The current state of environmental management systems is described, offering comparisons of global legislation rarely found in other resources. An extensive review of commercial equipment, including advantages and disadvantages per employed waste management technique, offers a unique perspective for any academic, student, professional, and/or consultant in the food, agriculture and environmental industries. - Thoroughly examines the most prevalent and most polluting industries such as Meat, Fish, Dairy, Olive Oil, Juice and Wine industries - Includes synoptical tables [methods employed, physicochemical or microbiological parameters altered after treatment etc] and comparative figures of the effectiveness of various waste management methods - Contains nearly 2500 of the most up-to-date references available

Book Energy and Environment in the European Union

Download or read book Energy and Environment in the European Union written by Aphrodite Mourelatou and published by European Environment Agency. This book was released on 2002 with total page 74 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although the energy sector is of key socio-economic importance, energy production and consumption also has considerable environment effects, including contributing to climate change, damaging natural ecosystems, and causing harm to human health. This report assesses how effectively environmental concerns are being integrated with EU energy policies, based on a range of indicators which examine performance in the EU as a whole and in individual member states. The indicators examine trends over the period 1990-99 and compare these with baseline projections to 2010. The report finds that EU energy consumption is rising, mainly because of transport growth, with energy efficiency improving slowly. Renewable energies need to expand by at least double the current rate if targets for boosting their market shares by 2010 are to be reached.
