Book The Commercialization of Outer Space

Download or read book The Commercialization of Outer Space written by Jonathan N. Goodrich and published by Praeger. This book was released on 1989-03-13 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The spectacular achievements of space exploration have long overshadowed the commercial impacts of space development. Here, Jonathan Goodrich brings together, in a single source, detailed information about the significant business aspects of space commercialization. Intended for top executives in the space and aerospace industries--as well as for firms contemplating entering the space business--the book addresses the marketing, legal, economic, technological, and insurance issues involved in space exploration and development. Throughout, Goodrich focuses both on opportunities in and obstacles to space business in order to help firms tailor their decision-making and strategic planning activities appropriately and profitably. Following an introductory chapter on the uses and importance of outer space to America, Goodrich devotes separate chapters to such important facets of space business as space operators, materials processing in space, spinoffs from space technology that can be incorporated into products for ordinary use, the potential profits offered by the Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI) program, identifying customers for orbital facilities, the role of space insurance, and major space laws. Of particular interest is a chapter entitled How to Market to NASA which identifies the major NASA field operations and their needs, explains the procurement process, offers practical guidelines for marketing your capabilities to NASA, and lists available special assistance programs. In his conclusion, Goodrich assesses the future of space business. Two appendixes list space business publications and firms involved in space commerce respectively. Invaluable for any firm that seeks to capitalize on the opportunities presented by space exploration, this book offers a clear-headed appraisal of the potential profits possible as well as a guide to minimizing the substantial risks involved in pursuing those profits.

Book Commercial Space Exploration

Download or read book Commercial Space Exploration written by Clelia Iacomino and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-05-22 with total page 106 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers a comprehensive overview of current space exploration in terms of geopolitical and commercial aspects. Despite multiple attempts to foster commercial activities in the field of space exploration, for decades the domain largely continued to be funded and led by governments in the form of national and international programmes. However, the situation changed with the retirement of the Space Shuttle and the introduction of NASA’s Commercial Orbital Transportation Services (COTS) programme, which employed an innovative procurement scheme based on competitive, performance-based, fixed-price milestones. The success of this programme marked an important milestone in the evolution of the relationship between government and industry. The growing opportunities for private actors to make more prominent contributions to space exploration also lie in the “New Space” ecosystem, a sectoral transformation characterised by a substantial increase in private investment and the emergence of commercial efforts to develop disruptive concepts and address new markets.

Book Commercial and Military Uses of Outer Space

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This edited book brings together a diverse range of chapters on space related topics. The authors included in this book are drawn from Australia and overseas, from academia, government, industry, civil society and the military. This book contains chapters that cover topics such as law, science, archaeology, defence, policy, and more, all with a focus on space. This edited collection is a timely international and interdisciplinary book, which addresses some of the contemporary issues facing activities in space and those attempting to understand, use and regulate the space domain. This edited book seeks to normalise the role of women as experts in the space sector, by not calling attention to the fact that all the authors are women – they are all experts in their respective fields who just happen to be women. Bringing together these contributions in this book in turn promotes the inclusion of diversity in the space sector. This edited collection is an opportunity to influence the development of the space industry – in terms of gender diversity, and diversity of disciplines and thinking – while it is in its formative stage, rather than trying to redress imbalances once they are entrenched in the industry.

Book Space Marketing

Download or read book Space Marketing written by W. Peeters and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2001-11-30 with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Space activities are currently in a transitional phase: the shift from publicly financed to private activities is a result of reduced public funding and increased commercial space opportunities. This leads to an increased commercial space marketing mix and marketing management. A classical `4Ps' approach is proposed, covering the Product, Price, Physical distribution, and Promotion of space activities. Special emphasis is placed on technology transfer, spin-off, and intellectual property aspects, as well as on aspects of space economy, such as alternate financing schemes like PPP (Public-Private Partnership) and sponsoring. However, space activists require broad public support and the exploratory aspect of space activities, the `Space Frontier' dimensions should not be ignored. For this reason, the philosophical dimension as an integral part of the marketing mix is elaborated in detail. The approach is illustrated with two case studies: commercialisation of the International Space Station (ISS) and the emerging Space Tourism market.

Book Commercial Space Exploration

Download or read book Commercial Space Exploration written by Jai Galliott and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-03-09 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Not since man set foot on the moon over four decades ago has there been such passion and excitement about space exploration. This enthusiasm and eagerness has been spurred on by the fact that for the first time since the very beginning of the space age, space travel is no longer limited to an elite group of highly trained and well-disciplined military officers and test pilots. Instead, we must understand that the possibility of commercial space travel is already on our horizon and that it comes with a number of significant practical and moral challenges. Our level of scientific development and ability to influence international affairs and policy confers upon us an obligation to study the ethical, legal and social considerations associated with space exploration and understanding the potential consequences from the beginning is critical. This volume provides the first comprehensive and unifying analysis concerning the rise of private space exploration, with a view toward developing policy that may influence real-world decision making. The plethora of questions demanding serious attention - privatisation and commercialisation, the impact on the environment, health futures, risk assessment, responsibility and governance - are directly addressed in this scholarly work.
