Book Life After Change

Download or read book Life After Change written by Keisha Starnes and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2019-05-14 with total page 51 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I was born a normal baby girl but ended up getting very sick at age four with a condition. However, the doctors didn’t understand the reason of the condition, the symptoms. First, it was cerebral palsy, but as I got older, they took more tests and gave me several different medication to take. They told my mom I was not going to walk or do anything for myself. As I got older, I surprised them more and more. I also went to school, never once wanting to stay home because of the teasing. I overcame what the doctors and others said I would not do. I was always on honor roll, and I dress myself sometimes. I feel like I had to work extra harder to prove myself. I had a mother who liked to walk, so we walked to most of my doctors’ appointments. I graduated and also worked at the same time. I did have a few challenges in my life, but I would tell myself, “Keisha, you have this. You’ve been through everything, more than you can imagine, but it’ll just make you stronger.” I overcame so much in my life. My goals are to encourage everyone going through the challenges we all face in life to never give up and to never allow anyone to label you. Having my kids was the bigger blessing because of the condition I have; I have three healthy babies. I had to learn what worked for me and what I wanted. Some people will tell you what they think, but remember, you have your own mind and your own life. Just because you have a disability, doesn’t mean you can’t do things. You can do all things through Christ who strengthens us.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How does one begin to understand the idea of a distinctive southern way of life—a concept as enduring as it is disputed? In this examination of the American South in national and global contexts, celebrated historian Charles Reagan Wilson assesses how diverse communities of southerners have sought to define the region's identity. Surveying three centuries of southern regional consciousness across many genres, disciplines, and cultural strains, Wilson considers and challenges prior presentations of the region, advancing a vision of southern culture that has always been plural, dynamic, and complicated by race and class. Structured in three parts, The Southern Way of Life takes readers on a journey from the colonial era to the present, from when complex ideas of "southern civilization" rooted in slaveholding and agrarianism dominated to the twenty-first-century rise of a modern, multicultural "southern living." As Wilson shows, there is no singular or essential South but rather a rich tapestry woven with contestations, contingencies, and change.

Their long conversation begins a friendship and their compatibility leads the newly divorced Mallory to propose that Caitlyn and her two sons move in with Mallory and her daughter to share expenses.
