Book Combustibility of Plastics

Download or read book Combustibility of Plastics written by F. Fire and published by Springer. This book was released on 1992-02-14 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although many people may want to know how plastics bum, the question of how plastics bum is only a part of a much larger question: "How does anything bum?" To examine the burning process of plastics in isolation does not make any sense and may lend credence to the idea that plastics are a special material with a special hazard. An analogy would be to study how "carbonless" carbon paper bums and then to relate the burning characteristics and combustion products of this single type of paper to all other types of paper, and even to other wood products and to wood itself. The testing of one type of product from a very large family of products that are physically similar, and the relation of these test results to all other members of that family, has no basis in the scientific method. Those who do so are ignorant of science-unless they have some hidden reason for wanting to ascribe certain properties to all related materials.

Book Polymer Green Flame Retardants

Download or read book Polymer Green Flame Retardants written by Constantine D. Papaspyrides and published by Newnes. This book was released on 2014-08-14 with total page 943 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Polymer Green Flame Retardants covers key issues regarding the response of polymers during fire, the mechanisms of their flame retardation, the regulations imposed on their use, and the health hazards arising from their combustion. Presenting the latest research developments, the book focuses in particular on nanocomposites, believed to be the most promising approach for producing physically superior materials with low flammability and ecological impact. The fire properties of nanocomposites of various matrixes and fillers are discussed, the toxicological characteristics of these materials are analyzed, addressing also their environmental sustainability. Edited by distinguished scientists, including an array of international industry and academia experts, this book will appeal to chemical, mechanical, environmental, material and process engineers, upper-level undergraduate and graduate students in these disciplines, and generally to researchers developing commercially attractive and environmentally friendly fire-proof products. - Provides recent findings on the manufacture of environmentally sustainable flame retardant polymeric materials - Covers legislation and regulations concerning flame retarded polymeric material use - Includes tables containing the fire properties of the most common polymeric materials

Book Toxicity of Plastics and Rubber in Fire

Download or read book Toxicity of Plastics and Rubber in Fire written by P. J. Fardell and published by iSmithers Rapra Publishing. This book was released on 1993 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report does not seek to single out synthetic polymers as a special case. It aims to provide an overview of the whole subject of combustion toxicity and threat to life, whilst supplying specific information on the most frequently encountered polymeric materials, and combustion products such as dioxins which have received high levels of media attention. An additional indexed section containing several hundred abstracts from the Rapra Polymer Library database provides useful references for further reading.

Book Plastics Flammability Handbook

Download or read book Plastics Flammability Handbook written by Jürgen Troitzsch and published by . This book was released on 2004-01-01 with total page 748 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: None of the many publications on the reaction of plastics to fire provides a comprehensive review of the fundamentals as well as of the relevant regulations and test methods. The "Plastics Flammability Handbook", first published in 1983 has filled this gap. The last decade saw a breakthrough in the internationalization of fire testing and classification, particularly in building, electrical engineering, and transportation. At the same time, the perception of how to assess the main parameters governing a fire and the role of combustible materials like plastics were redefined and led to new approaches particularly in the fields of smoke development and toxicity of fire effluents. All these developments required a comprehensive revision of the handbook and are summarized in this 3rd up-dated and completely revised edition. Contents: I Fundamentals - Introduction and Market Situation - The Burning Process and Enclosure Fires - The Burning of Plastics - Flame Retardant Plastics - Textiles - Smoke Development and Suppression II National and International Fire Protection Regulations and Test Procedures - Methodology of Fire Testing - Regulations and Testing - Building - Transportation - Electrical Engineering - Furniture and Furnishings III Fire Effluents - Smoke Development of Fire Effluents - Toxicity of Fire Effluents - Corrosivity of Fire Effluents IV Appendix - Supplies of Flame Retardants and Smoke Suppressants - Abreviations - Terminology of Fire Protection - Standards Organisations

Book Flammability Handbook for Plastics Fifth Edition

Download or read book Flammability Handbook for Plastics Fifth Edition written by Carlos J. Hilado and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1998-05-11 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: FROM THE INTRODUCTION "Considerable effort has gone into the study of various aspects of flammability and of various plastic materials, so that these materials which are proving so useful to man will always be used in ways which will not compromise his safety. The task is a continuing one, because the family of plastics continues to grow, and, along with it, its variety of applications. Some of these future applications cannot even be conceived of at the present time. The needs of man and his society are changing, and with them the factors that affect his safety, comfort, and convenience. A flammability handbook for plastics must necessarily involve a variety of sciences and technologies spread across the whole spectrum of human knowledge, and it is impossible to discuss all the subjects in great depth. Any details extracted for attention are brought because they are believed to be significant to the overall effort to make plastics as useful and safe as humanly possible."
