Book Collins and Sivers Asymmetries in Muonproduction of Pions and Kaons Off Transversely Polarised Protons

Download or read book Collins and Sivers Asymmetries in Muonproduction of Pions and Kaons Off Transversely Polarised Protons written by and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 10 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Measurements of the Collins and Sivers asymmetries for charged pions and charged and neutral kaons produced in semi-inclusive deep-inelastic scattering of high energy muons off transversely polarised protons are presented. The results were obtained using all the available COMPASS proton data, which were taken in the years 2007 and 2010. The Collins asymmetries exhibit in the valence region a non-zero signal for pions and there are hints of non-zero signal also for kaons. The Sivers asymmetries are found to be positive for positive pions and kaons and compatible with zero otherwise.

Book Probing Nucleons And Nuclei In High Energy Collisions Proceedings Of The Int Program Int 18 3

Download or read book Probing Nucleons And Nuclei In High Energy Collisions Proceedings Of The Int Program Int 18 3 written by Alexei Prokudin and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2020-05-29 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains proceedings of the 7-week INT program dedicated to the physics of the Electron-Ion Collider (EIC), the world's first polarized electron-nucleon (ep) and electron-nucleus (eA) collider to be constructed in the United States. The 2015 NSAC Long Range Plan recommended EIC as the 'highest priority for new facility construction following the completion of FRIB'. The primary goal of the EIC is to establish precise multi-dimensional imaging of quarks and gluons inside nucleons and nuclei. This includes (i) understanding the spatial and momentum space structure of the nucleon through the studies of TMDs (transverse-momentum-dependent parton distributions), GPD (generalized parton distributions) and the Wigner distribution; (ii) determining the partonic origin of the nucleon spin; (iii) exploring the new quantum chromodynamics (QCD) frontier of ultra-strong gluon fields, with the potential to seal the discovery of a new form of dense gluon matter predicted to exist in all nuclei and nucleons at small Bjorken x — the parton saturation. The program brought together both theorists and experimentalists from Jefferson Lab (JLab), Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) along with the national and international nuclear physics communities to assess and advance the EIC physics.

Book Measurement of Single target Spin Asymmetries in the Electroproduction of Negative Pions in the Semi inclusive Deep Inelastic Reaction N1 e E pi X on a Transversely Polarized 3He Target

Download or read book Measurement of Single target Spin Asymmetries in the Electroproduction of Negative Pions in the Semi inclusive Deep Inelastic Reaction N1 e E pi X on a Transversely Polarized 3He Target written by and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The experiment E06010 measured the target single spin asymmetry (SSA) in the semiinclusive deep inelastic (SIDIS) n1!e, e'[pi]- )X reaction with a transversely polarized 3He target as an e ective neutron target. This is the very rst independent measurement of the neutron SSA, following the measurements at HERMES and COMPASS on the proton and the deuteron. The experiment acquired data in Hall A at Je erson Laboratory with a continuous electron beam of energy 5.9 GeV, probing the valence quark region, with x = 0.13 2!0.41, at Q2 = 1.31 2!3.1 GeV2. The two contributing mechanisms to the measured asymmetry, viz, the Collins effect and the Sivers effect can be realized through the variation of the asymmetry as a function of the Collins and Sivers angles. The neutron Collins and Sivers moments, associated with the azimuthal angular modulations, are extracted from the measured asymmetry for the very first time and are presented in this thesis. The kinematics of this experiment is comparable to the HERMES proton measurement. However, the COMPASS measurements on deuteron and proton are in the low-x region. The results of this experiment are crucial as the first step toward the extraction of quark transversity and Sivers distribution functions in SIDIS. With the existing results on proton and deuteron, these new results on neutron will provide powerful constraints on the transversity and Sivers distributions of both the u and d-quarks in the valence region.

Book Measurement of Single and Double Spin Asymmetries in Deep Inelastic Pion Electroproduction with a Longitudinally Polarized Target

Download or read book Measurement of Single and Double Spin Asymmetries in Deep Inelastic Pion Electroproduction with a Longitudinally Polarized Target written by and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We report the first measurement of the transverse momentum dependence of double spin asymmetries in semi-inclusive production of pions in deep inelastic scattering off the longitudinally polarized proton. Data have been obtained using a polarized electron beam of 5.7 GeV with the CLAS detector at the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility (JLab). A significant non-zero $\sin2\phi$ single spin asymmetry was also observed for the first time indicating strong spin-orbit correlations for transversely polarized quarks in the longitudinally polarized proton. The azimuthal modulations of single spin asymmetries have been measured over a wide kinematic range.

Book Transverse Spin Asymmetries in Neutral Strange Particle Production

Download or read book Transverse Spin Asymmetries in Neutral Strange Particle Production written by Thomas Burton and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The origin of the quantum mechanical spin of the proton in terms of its constituents is not yet fully understood. The discovery that the intrinsic spin of quarks contributes only a small fraction of the total proton spin sparked a huge theoretical and experimental effort to understand the origin of the remainder. In particular the transverse spin properties of the proton remain poorly understood. Significant transverse spin asymmetries in the production of hadrons have been observed over many years, and are related to both the transverse polarisation of quarks in a transversely polarised proton and to the spin dependence of orbital motion. These asymmetries are of interest because of perturbative QCD predictions that such asymmetries should be small. Measurements of such asymmetries may yield further insights into the transverse spin structure of the proton. The Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) is the world s first polarised proton collider, and has been taking proton data since 2001. Polarised proton collisions at \(\sqrt{s}\) = 200 GeV taken during the 2006 RHIC run have been analysed and the transverse single and double spin asymmetries in the production of the neutral strange particles \(K 0_S\), \(\Lambda\) and \(\overline{\Lambda}\) have been measured in the transverse momentum range 0.5

Book Azimuthal Asymmetries in Hard Exclusive Meson Muoproduction Off Transversely Polarized Protons

Download or read book Azimuthal Asymmetries in Hard Exclusive Meson Muoproduction Off Transversely Polarized Protons written by Johannes ter Wolbeek and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Zusammenfassung: In 2010, the COMPASS experiment at CERN took data with a 160 GeV muon beam and a transversely polarized ammonia target. In this thesis, this data is analyzed for azimuthal target spin asymmetries, including five single spin and three double spin asymmetries in hard exclusive omega meson production. For the asymmetry extraction an extended unbinned maximum likelyhood fit, is used. With this method the eight azimuthal asymmetries from hard exclusive omega meson production plus eight additional asymmetries of the same azimuthal angle modulation from semi-inclusive background events are calculated simultaneously. Therefore every event from the signal region is assigned with the probabilities obtained with the fit to the missing energy distribution. The asymmetries obtained in this analysis can help to constrain Generalized Parton Distributions (GPDs). This is done by comparing the measurements to model calculations of the asymmetries in the COMPASS kinematics. In this thesis the results are compared to the model from Goloskokov and Kroll, which is in good agreement with the data. Especially in combination with results from other vector meson channels, as for example the rho meson, which has already been analyzed, additional constrains on the GPDs E for u and d quarks are enabled

Book Recent Results of Target Single Spin Asymmetry Experiments at Jefferson Lab

Download or read book Recent Results of Target Single Spin Asymmetry Experiments at Jefferson Lab written by and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We report recent results from Jefferson Lab Hall A "Neutron Transversity" experiment (E06-010). Transversely polarized target single-spin asymmetry AUT and beam-target double-spin asymmetry A{sub LT} have been measured in semi-inclusive deep-inelastic scattering (SIDIS) reactions on a polarized neutron (3He) target. Collins-type and Sivers-type asymmetries have been extracted from A{sub UT} for charged pion SIDIS productions, which are sensitive to quark transversity and Sivers distributions, correspondingly. Double spin asymmetry A{sub LT} is sensitive to a specific quark transverse momentum dependent parton distribution (TMD), the so-called "transverse helicity" (g{sub 1T}) distributions. In addition, target single-spin asymmetries A{sub y} in inclusive electron scattering on a transversely polarized 3He target in quasi-elastic and deep inelastic kinematics were also measured in Hall A.

Book excerpt: The two-volume set Lectures on QCD provides an introductory overview of Quantum Chromodynamics, the theory of strong interactions. In a series of pedagogically written articles based on lectures given over the years to graduate students, the fundamentals of QCD are discussed and significant application areas are described. The field-theoretic basis of QCD is the focus of the first volume, while the application of QCD to the phenomenology of strong interactions forms the subject of the second volume.
