Book excerpt: A series of gruesome murders has brought together law enforcement officials from two countries as they try desperately to find a ruthless killer before he strikes again. With the help of a forensic pathologist, the pair close in on the perpetrator, paving the way for the emotional unraveling of one of the detectives. For Captain Mark Nolan, the fight has become personal. With over 30 years of service and retirement just around the corner, these murders are the only unsolved crimes in his normally peaceful jurisdiction, and the most disturbing by far. A country away, Detective Bryce-Jones has followed the same trail of murders, noting a haunting similarity with cold cases that have kept her up at night for the past six years. As the pair unite seeking justice, exhumations of the bodies of the cold cases in Canada are ordered revealing more consistencies as well as clear evidence of a cover-up. The victims are missing organs, removed with a surgeon's precision yet the incisions are closed by what appears to be a child’s hand. Exploring the field of forensic pathology by delving into autopsy methodology and body decomposition, The Harvest brings crime and medicine together across jurisdictions. With relatable characters and a story intertwined with shocking twists and raw emotionality, The Harvest is a captivating crime novel.

Book excerpt: From the Gutter to the Grave is an action filled urban tale that will for sure keep readersminds in suspense and fingers anxiously ready to flip the next page. With realistic street dialogue such as that used in favorite successful urban novels like, The Coldest Winter Ever by Sister Souljah and Be More Careful by Shannon Holmes, this awesome tale takes one on a wild and vivid journey to a place that other authors seldom lead readers. Through the real ghetto! Written with specificity of ethnic characterized scheme, the general readers of this type novel would in all probability be that of an African-American-Latino audience, but with a plot so alluring and dramatized, the heading multicultural could in fact to be used when categorizing FTGTTG. The author, G.C. Deuce establishes and introduces the main character as Terrance Brown, whom throughout the narrative is referred to by the moniker Trech, a 19 year old man of African American and Puerto Rican descent, who like many his age finds himself encountering several controversial and combative disputes attributed from living within an impoverished, violent, drug infested community and dysfunctional household. Being raised up in an unbalanced home life consisting of prostitution, drug abuse, imprisonment, and other immoral standards, Trech not only learned to survive but also took heed while facing day to day grueling situations, beginning at his residence. Considering all the disadvantages, he coped well and harnessed the skill of maintaining and compensating for any given circumstance that would arise and with astute planning when necessary to continue surviving and protecting his loved ones. With one brother in the grave and another incarcerated, Trech finds himself trapped within the same environment which played a major part in the destruction of his family. He gradually takes on the roll of savior as he links up with three of his closest blood cousins whom all just like him sadly suffer from the same plights associated with slum living. Showing great leadership potential, Trech devises a plan to save his family as well as himself from the struggles suffocating grip. With help from his faithful girlfriend and cousins, (except the betrayer) they clad up in police-swat gear with ammunitions and attempt to pull off the lick-of-a-lifetime, only to in the end have their big dreams turn into a horrific nightmare. After the loss of one of his cousins, Trech, along with his remaining family succeed in locking down their citys drug game; thats until the jealousy of a long forgotten relative causes him to fall deeper into the violent side of the game. Trech finds himself once again playing the role of redeemer but this time its his beloved girlfriend he must rescue from the envious haters dwelling in the streets of the hood. The climax of the story illustrates Trech, and close acquaintances rescuing his girl from a murderous back stabbing cousin, bringing the encounter to what they assumed was definitely the end. After which, boarding a peaceful one-way flight to California with his girl and her young sister, Trech finally believes he has truly been set free from the game, but little does he know that the next five years of his life would be closely monitored by a man that hed watched die from a fatal gunshot. California soon becomes introduced to a new breed of gangsters when Trechs cousin resurfaces and takes command of one of Calis most infamous gangs while keeping a close eye on his detested relative. Trech soon finds himself being blindly haunted by visions of the past! From the Gutter to the Grave fits perfectly in the category of other favorite writings like Dutch by Terry Woods and A Hustlers Wife by Nikki Turner. This intriguing story consists of three different parts, each exposing the reader to a more diverse setting of events with a variety of character

Download or read book When Worlds Collide written by Shawn Forbes and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2007-03-27 with total page 725 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This fictional work tells the story of a unique and lasting bond that develops between three individuals from very different backgrounds, whose worlds collide in Manchester, England in the late 1980's. Although set mainly in Manchester, London and Nassau, Bahamas, pivotal parts of the story are set in Los Angeles, California and New York City. Stephen Taylor is a young West Indian man who tries to loosen the shackles of a small town upbringing when he moves to England to attend university. He is troubled by the guilt that stems from his inability to accept his homosexuality and does everything in his power to hide from himself. Despite developing a powerful bond with Suresh Patel, a young, gay British man of Indian extraction and Tanya Collings, a troubled Canadian young woman, Stephen eventually returns to The Bahamas, where old demons resurface to haunt him. His path to self-discovery is fraught with challenges, which include a nervous collapse, a loveless marriage and the rejection of the man he truly loves. Ultimately, however, he finds redemption - and himself. Tanya Collings is a young Canadian woman who has endured unfathomable physical and sexual abuse at the hands of her parents. She meets Stephen and Suresh soon after escaping to England and develops a special bond with them that ultimately helps her to heal her damaged life. Although she generally distrusts all men, with the exception of her friends Stephen and Suresh, she eventually meets Michael Rouse, a young Englishman with whom she falls in love and finally marries. Suresh Patel is a brash (often coarse), self-assured British man of Indian parentage who is aware of his homosexuality from an early age, and accepts it completely. He moves to Manchester, after being rejected by his family and suffering a succession of tragedies. Suresh is the glue that holds the story together, providing a source of strength for Tanya and Stephen despite the challenges that he himself faces. Ultimately, the story is one of hope, of how the power of love helps three very damaged people heal their lives - and those of the friends who come to mean more than family. It is a story that transcends the boundaries of race, colour, class and sexual preference and will likely appeal to men and women everywhere who have had to grapple with issues of incest, sexual and physical abuse, bisexuality, homosexuality, violence and AIDS. In the author's view, the story is particularly pertinent to the current international debate on issues surrounding gay relationships. In the United States, the catalyst for the current discussion has been the subject of marriage between same-sex partners; but at its foundation, the matter is far more complex than that. Cultural and religious taboos, intolerance and ignorance are all a part of the current global pre-occupation with gay, bisexual and trans-gendered persons and these are all subjects that are explored and debated in When Worlds Collide.
