Book Changes in Attitudes Toward Women at the Air Force Academy

Download or read book Changes in Attitudes Toward Women at the Air Force Academy written by and published by . This book was released on 1984 with total page 4 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sex-role attitudes were measured at the Air Force Academy by Marshak, DeFleur, and Gillman (1976), using the Attitudes toward Women Scale (Spence & Helmreich, 1972). The attitudes were significantly less egalitarian than those held by male college students at the University of Texas at Austin. Festinger's Cognitive Dissonance Theory (1957) predicts that as perceptions of mandated social change decrease, attitudes held by cadets would become more egalitarian. In cadets sampled in 1983, males are significantly more egalitarian than in 1976, but there's no significant difference between 1983 cadets and 1980 college students. There's a significant trend in male cadets: the longer he's been at the Academy, the more egalitarian he is. As expected, comparison between 1983 male and female cadets showed women were significantly more egalitarian than men.

Book Attitudes Toward Sex Among Male College Students

Download or read book Attitudes Toward Sex Among Male College Students written by Eunice Reyes and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page 49 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Acceptance of rape myths is a prevalent issue in U.S. society. Research suggests that rape myth acceptance is greater among men compared to women. So, this study sought to understand the relationship between conformity to hegemonic masculinity and acceptance of male rape myths among male university students. This study also analyzed the influence of media, interpersonal communication, and sexual violence support services in shaping perceptions about masculinity and male rape myths. In an online survey involving male students from one mid-sized Midwestern university, conformity to four dimensions of hegemonic masculinity were found to be related to acceptance of male rape myths: self-reliance, violence, power over women, and disdain for homosexuality. The findings of this study indicate that media is generally not influential in shaping male university students' perceptions of masculinity and acceptance of male rape myths, with the exception of streaming services. Interpersonal communication was not related to acceptance of male rape myths, but certain social groups were influential in shaping perceptions of masculinity. This study also found that only one support service included in the survey was influential in reducing acceptance of male rape myths.

Download or read book Attitudes and Perceptions of Alumni Engagement at a Private Women s College in the Southeastern United States written by and published by . This book was released on 2022 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This qualitative collective case study aimed to explore that attitudes and perceptions of alumni engagement at a private women’s college in the Southeastern United States. A total of thirteen alumni from one of two generational cohorts: baby boomers or millennials, were interviewed and six participated in two focus group sessions. Interviews and focus groups sessions were transcribed and coded for emerging themes. Questions for the interviews and focus groups were directly related to the study’s five research questions: (1) What are the personal and situational characteristics of alumni by giving level to the alma mater?, (2) What is the relationship between student involvement and subsequent alumni engagement?, (3) What are the attitude and perceptions of alumni towards annual giving to the alma mater?, (4) What are the general attitudes toward charitable giving of alumni?, and (5) What is the relationship between graduation recency and alumni engagement? Analysis of the data revealed that overall participants’ attitudes and perceptions of alumni engagement at their alma mater were extremely positive in nature. Alumni had strong feelings regarding giving back to the alma mater both financially and otherwise to help ensure that current and future students could continue to have the same experience. There were six themes which emerged as a result of this study.
