Download or read book College of American Pathologists Practical Guide to Gynecologic Cytopathology written by David C. Wilbur and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 255 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Every practitioner will appreciate this image-rich guide that extensively covers the principles of gynecologic cytopathology. The 270-page reference volume takes a thorough look at practical matters such as evaluations of patients and their specimens as well as criteria to determine specimen adequacy. You will find comprehensive reviews of the morphology of the vast majority of entities both benign and malignant that are routinely identified in Pap tests. In the wake of CLIA-mandated individual proficiency testing, the CAP Cytopathology Committee envisioned this manual to cover both fundamental and advanced gynecologic cytology practice and to assist practitioners in their daily work as well as to "brush-up" prior to a proficiency test. To ensure that this is a complete resource, the authors included background material relevant to the understanding of basic cervical carcinogenesis, including the role of human papillomavirus and its vaccines. Principles relevant to the management of the cytology laboratory, such as specimen coding, quality assurance, and personnel management are expertly presented as well. A review of CAP programs in gynecologic cytology rounds out the volume.

This includes a historical perspective on the evolution of this technology, technical aspects of making a great whole slide image, the various applications of whole slide imaging and future applications using WSI for computer-aided diagnosis The goal is to provide practical knowledge and address knowledge gaps in this emerging field. This book is unique because it addresses an emerging area in pathology for which currently there is only limited information about the practical aspects of deploying this technology. For example, there are no established selection criteria for choosing new scanners and a knowledge base with the key information. The authors of the various chapters have years of real-world experience in selecting and implementing WSI solutions in various aspects of pathology practice. This text also discusses practical tips and pearls to address the selection of a WSI vendor, technology details, implementing this technology and provide an overview of its everyday uses in all areas of pathology. Chapters include important information on how to integrate digital slides with laboratory information system and how to streamline the “digital workflow” with the intent of saving time, saving money, reducing errors, improving efficiency and accuracy, and ultimately benefiting patient outcomes. Whole Slide Imaging: Current Applications and Future Directions is designed to present a comprehensive and state-of the-art approach to WSI within the broad area of digital pathology. It aims to give the readers a look at WSI with a deeper lens and also envision the future of pathology imaging as it pertains to WSI and associated digital innovations.
Download or read book The Bethesda System for Reporting Thyroid Cytopathology written by Syed Z. Ali and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-03-20 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This atlas is the offspring of the “The National Cancer Institute (NCI) Thyroid Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA) State of the Science Conference,” hosted by the NCI and organized by Dr. Andrea Abati. Preparations for the conference began 18 months earlier with the designation of a steering committee and the establishment of a dedicated, p- manent web site. The meeting took place on October 22 and 23, 2007 in Bethesda, Maryland and was co-moderated by Susan J. Mandel and Edmund S. Cibas. The discussions and conclusions regarding terminology and morphologic criteria 1, 2 from the meeting were summarized in publications by Baloch et al. and form the framework for this atlas. The atlas is organized by the general categories of “Nondiagnostic,” “Benign,” “Follicular Neoplasm/Suspicious for a Follicular Neoplasm”, “Suspicious for Malignancy,” and “Malignant,” and it includes the defi- tions and morphologic criteria of these categories as set forth by Baloch et al. The majority of the conference participants also agreed on a category of “undetermined significance,” which is incorporated in this atlas (Chap. 4). It is critical that the cytopathologist communicate thyroid FNA interpretations to the referring physician in terms that are succinct, unambiguous, and helpful clinically. We recognize that the terminology used here is a flexible framework that can be modified by individual laboratories to meet the needs of their providers and the patients they serve.

Download or read book The Paris System for Reporting Urinary Cytology written by Dorothy L. Rosenthal and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-12-16 with total page 177 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes a novel and proven approach to cytologically classify urinary samples for the detection of bladder cancer and lesions of the upper urinary tract. The new method is based on the collective experience of knowledgeable cytopathologists who have tested the terminology within their own laboratories for reproducibility and predictability of neoplasms of the urinary tract. Accompanying the written criteria for each diagnostic category are meticulously photographed exemplars of the cellular features, with cogently annotated descriptions of the photographs. The book thereby performs as an atlas for microscopists involved in diagnostic cytopathology at all levels of their education. Included in the targeted readership are experienced pathologists, cytotechnologists, and students of both professional groups. The new terminology also considers the clinical aspects of patient management. Written by experts in the field who convened at the 18th International Congress of Cytology in Paris, The Paris System for Reporting Urinary Cytology presents a global standard for reporting and a new philosophic approach that maximizes the strengths of detecting the potentially lethal high grade lesions by urinary cytology, and recognizes without apology the inability to reliably detect the low grade lesions in urinary cytology. The Concept has been endorsed by the American Society Of Cytopathology, and the International Academy of Cytology.

Download or read book Diagnostic Gynecologic and Obstetric Pathology written by Roger A. Reichert and published by Lippincott Williams & Wilkins. This book was released on 2012-01-19 with total page 651 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In covering the topic of gynecologic and obstetric pathology, this book attempts to carve out its own niche midway between an atlas and a traditional textbook. The gross and microscopic images in this atlas are presented exclusively in color, and are supplemented by pertinent clinical information and discussions of differential diagnostic considerations. When deemed appropriate, images of immunohistochemical and special stains are included. To further enhance their visual appeal and the overall learning experience, many images in this book are presented with annotations and/or in composite form, and selected images have been enlarged. This image-intensive textbook also includes numerous Pap smear images and cytologic-histologic correlations. In addition to coverage of pathology of the organs of the female genital tract, brief overviews of the normal histology of these sites are provided as necessary background information. Separate chapters are also devoted to placental and peritoneal pathology. There is an emphasis on diagnostic-related issues pertaining to common lesions and their variants, although classic forms of rare lesions are also presented. In selected instances, recommendations on the processing of gross pathology specimens, discussions regarding the optimal approach for intraoperative consultations, and recommendations on the phrasing of key portions of pathology reports are provided. The 10 chapters of this book are organized by site, and the beginning of each chapter lists the entities discussed and their corresponding page numbers.
