Book Historical Dictionary of the Republic of Cameroon

Download or read book Historical Dictionary of the Republic of Cameroon written by Mark Dike DeLancey and published by Scarecrow Press. This book was released on 2010-05-03 with total page 532 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cameroon is a country endowed with a variety of climates and agricultural environments, numerous minerals, substantial forests, and a dynamic population. It is a country that should be a leader of Africa. Instead, we find a country almost paralyzed by corruption and poor management, a country with a low life expectancy and serious health problems, and a country from which the most talented and highly educated members of the population are emigrating in large numbers. Although Cameroon has made economic progress since independence, it has not been able to change the dependent nature of its economy. The economic situation combined with the dismal record of its political history, indicate that prospects for political stability, justice, and prosperity are dimmer than they have been for most of the country's independent existence. The fourth edition of the Historical Dictionary of the Republic of Cameroon has been updated to reflect advances in the study of Cameroon's history as well as to provide coverage of the years since the last edition. It relates the turbulent history of Cameroon through a chronology, an introductory essay, a bibliography, and over 600 cross-referenced dictionary entries on significant persons, events, places, organizations, and other aspects of Cameroon history from the earliest times to the present.

Book Industrial Environmental Chemistry

Download or read book Industrial Environmental Chemistry written by Donald T. Sawyer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-12-11 with total page 310 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph consists of manuscripts submitted by invited speakers who participated in the symposium "Industrial Environmental Chemistry: Waste Minimization in Industrial Processes and Remediation of Hazardous Waste," held March 24-26, 1992, at Texas A&M University. This meeting was the tenth annual international symposium sponsored by the Texas A&M Industry-University Cooperative Chemistry Program (IUCCP). The program was developed by an academic-industrial steering committee consisting of the co-chairmen, Professors Donald T. Sawyer and Arthur E. Martell of the Texas A&M University Chemistry Department, and members appointed by the sponsoring companies: Bernie A. Allen, Jr., Dow Chemical USA; Kirk W. Brown, Texas A&M University; Abraham Clearfield, Texas A&M University; Greg Leyes, Monsanto Company; Jay Warner, Hoechst-Celanese Corporation; Paul M. Zakriski, BF Goodrich Company; and Emile A. Schweikert, Texas A&M University (IUCCP Coordinator). The subject of this conference reflects the interest that has developed in academic institutions and industry for technological solutions to environmental contamination by industrial wastes. Progress is most likely with strategies that minimize waste production from industrial processes. Clearly the key to the protection and preservation of the environment will be through R&D that optimizes chemical processes to minimize or eliminate waste streams. Eleven of the papers are directed to waste minimization. An additional ten papers discuss chemical and biological remediation strategies for hazardous wastes that contaminate soils, sludges, and water.

Book Modern Coordination Chemistry

Download or read book Modern Coordination Chemistry written by G. J. Leigh and published by Royal Society of Chemistry. This book was released on 2002 with total page 416 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Joseph Chatt was a pioneering figure in coordination chemistry. Intended as a record of Chatt's life, work, and influence, this book begins with a description of Chatt's career presented by co-workers, contemporaries, and students, then goes on to show that many of today's leading practitioners in the field have been influenced by Chatt. The latest research in coordination chemistry is presented to highlight Chatt's continuing legacy, in sections on the synthesis and reactivity of hydrido and dihydrogen complexes, the chemistry of phosphines, transition metal complexes of olefins and related isolobal ligands, chemistry related to dinitrogen complexes, the biological work of the ARC unit of nitrogen fixation at the University of Sussex, and patterns and generalizations in stability and reactivity. Leigh is affiliated with the University of Sussex, UK, and Winterton is affiliated with the University of Liverpool, UK. The book is distributed in the US by Springer Verlag. Book Assessing Site Significance

Download or read book Assessing Site Significance written by Donald L. Hardesty and published by Rowman Altamira. This book was released on 2009-03-16 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Assessing Site Significance is an invaluable resource for archaeologists and others who need guidance in determining whether sites are eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). Because the register's eligibility criteria were largely developed for standing sites, it is difficult to know in any particular case whether a site known primarily through archaeological work has sufficient 'historical significance' to be listed. Hardesty and Little address these challenges, describing how to file for NRHP eligibility and how to determine the historical significance of archaeological properties. This second edition brings everything up to date, and includes new material on 17th- and 18th-century sites, traditional cultural properties, shipwrecks, Japanese internment camps, and military properties.
