Book excerpt: Radiocarbon Dating: An Archaeological Perspective provides a review of some of the major advances and accomplishments of the 14C method from an archaeological perspective. The text also provides an introduction to some of the problems and issues involved in the use of 14C data in archaeological studies. The book covers topics in radiocarbon dating, including the elements of the radiocarbon method; definition of major anomalies and the different effects of the 14C method; and sample, sample pretreatment, and measurement techniques. The evaluation of radiocarbon data and the historical development of radiocarbon dating as a method that aids in archaeological studies are also discussed. The text is recommended for archaeologists who want to know more about the theories and principles behind radiocarbon dating, its techniques, and its application in their field. The book will also be good for physicists who want to work with archaeologists and apply their knowledge in radiocarbon dating.

Book Radiocarbon Dates

Download or read book Radiocarbon Dates written by and published by Liverpool University Press. This book was released on 2014-06-30 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume holds a datelist of radiocarbon determinations carried out between 1970 and 1982 on behalf of the Ancient Monuments Laboratory, now part of English Heritage. It also contains supporting information about the samples and the sites producing them, a comprehensive bibliography, and three indexes for reference and analysis. The datelist has been collated to give access to a large body of information which, although mostly published elsewhere, has never before been accessible in a consistent form. When these dates were produced, high-precision calibration was not possible; now that this is available all dates have been converted, thus giving archaeologists and others using radiocarbon dates the opportunity to review their dating results in the light of this calibration, and with hindsight. The indexes order the complex information contained in the datelist by HAR numbers and by true calendar dates.

Book Quaternary Dating Methods

Download or read book Quaternary Dating Methods written by Mike Walker and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2013-04-30 with total page 311 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This introductory textbook introduces the basics of dating, the range of techniques available and the strengths and limitations of each of the principal methods. Coverage includes: the concept of time in Quaternary Science and related fields the history of dating from lithostratigraphy and biostratigraphy the development and application of radiometric methods different methods in dating: radiometric dating, incremental dating, relative dating and age equivalence Presented in a clear and straightforward manner with the minimum of technical detail, this text is a great introduction for both students and practitioners in the Earth, Environmental and Archaeological Sciences. Praise from the reviews: "This book is a must for any Quaternary scientist." SOUTH AFRICAN GEOGRAPHICAL JOURNAL, September 2006 “...very well organized, clearly and straightforwardly written and provides a good overview on the wide field of Quaternary dating methods...” JOURNAL OF QUATERNARY SCIENCE, January 2007

Book Radiocarbon Dating Literature

Download or read book Radiocarbon Dating Literature written by Dilette Polach and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although the technique of radiocarbon dating has been established and used as a research tool in a variety of fields since the late 1940s, no serious effort has been made to compile a comprehensive annotated bibliography of the literature devoted to radiocarbon dating and its applications. This is partly due to the multi-disciplinary aspect of the topic causing indexing of radiocarbon dating literature to be scattered in a variety of abstracting services and scientific fields and also partly due to the rapid and constant growth of the literature. This makes searching for literature on the general topic of radiocarbon dating a very cumbersome task. Radiocarbon dating appears as an indexed subject only since 1965, however current literature shows that early works are still widely referred to, indicating their importance as foundation and framework for new research. Thus the selected range of the bibliography, 1947-1968, fills the gap not covered by indexing services or computer information retrieval. This bibliography lists over 2800 articles (in the English language), and the bibliography is divided into 14 chapters. Within the chapters, the entries are in alphabetical order by title. The bibliography also has three indexes which offer access to material by author, subject, and geographical names.

Book The Luxembourg Gutland Landscape

Download or read book The Luxembourg Gutland Landscape written by A. M. Kooijman and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-10-24 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book gathers older and current knowledge of the evolution and functioning of cuesta landscapes to provide a better understanding of the Luxembourgian landscape. The geological variety and tectonic setting of the area provide excellent opportunities to study landscape development, hydrology, geomorphological processes, soil formation, forest vegetation and interrelationships between them, which are characteristic of larger parts of Europe. The book is organized around four themes. The first addresses the development of the Luxembourgian cuesta landscape, covering geological evolution, lithology, geomorphological characteristics and hydrology, as well as the scientific history of research in this area. The second theme addresses aspects of the landscape’s geo-ecological- system functioning and development, including soils, nutrient availability, forest ecology and educational approaches to study geo-ecological systems, including old and modern mapping techniques. The third theme is related to biological and physico-chemical control of erosion processes, including the impact of (macro-)fauna, vegetation and substrate on soil erosion processes. The last theme discusses practical applications of the research findings.
