Book Coherent Anti Stokes Raman Spectroscopy CARS

Download or read book Coherent Anti Stokes Raman Spectroscopy CARS written by and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 33 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Coherent Anti-Stokes Raman Spectroscopy (CARS) has been accepted as a very useful tool in combustion diagnostics. CARS is an optical technique in which two powerful laser beams are brought to a focus over a very small region in a medium usually a flame. This produces an output laser-like beam arising from a specific interaction of the laser radiation with the molecules of the gases in the flame and the spectral characteristics of this beam contains information about the temperature and species present in the focal volume. The relevant information from the CARS spectra can be extracted only by comparing it with theoretically calculated spectra. A complex software package was developed for generating the theoretical CARS spectra and for analyzing the experimental spectra. This report describes the tasks undertaken to enhance the capabilities of the existing CARS software package with the aim of detecting species such as NO and O2.

Book Ultrabroadband Coherent Anti Stokes Raman Scattering for Gas Temperature and Concentration Measurements

Download or read book Ultrabroadband Coherent Anti Stokes Raman Scattering for Gas Temperature and Concentration Measurements written by Yang Ran and published by . This book was released on 2021* with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of this work was to investigate and extend the capability of the ultrabroadband CARS technique for temperature and concentration measurements for multiple species and a wide range of practical applications, especially for gasification diagnostics. Practical gasification or combustion devices mainly work under high pressures. Therefore, a sufficiently short probe pulse (~2 ps) was utilized for collision-free measurements. In order to simultaneously excite multiple gas species with Raman shifts up to ~4200 cm-1, a ~7 fs pump/Stokes beam was used. Both beams are generated by a 200 kHz BBO-based OPCPA system. Based on this configuration, the experimental methods and the theoretical framework for temperature and concentration determination were developed. The accuracy and precision of this technique was at first determined in a gas oven with controlled temperatures and gas flows. In this way, temperature measurements at temperatures from 295 K up to ~1300 K were performed with excellent accuracies within ~4%. The CO detection limit in CO2 atmosphere was extended to 0.5% at room temperature and 2% at 1073 K at a pressure of 1.4 bar. Temperature and concentration measurements were further extended to 20 bar and 10 bar, respectively. The influence of the ultrabroadband spectrum on the excitation efficiencies was investigated in detail. Subsequently, ultrabroadband CARS technique was applied for the first time for coal gasification investigations. Successful CARS analytical results were obtained even for the gasification process of a single coal particle.

Book Gas Diagnostic Measurements by Coherent Anti Stokes Raman Spectroscopy

Download or read book Gas Diagnostic Measurements by Coherent Anti Stokes Raman Spectroscopy written by R. L. St. Peters and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Coherent anti-Stokes spectroscopy (CARS) can be considerably simpler than is suggested by literature analyses based on interactions of monochromatic waves. The simplification arises when the optical properties of real lasers are incorporated into the analysis. To incorporate these properties, it is necessary to recognize that the underlying nonlinear optical interaction has a previously ignored complexity and is dependent on the coherence properties of the fields as well as on their spectra. The coherence of the interaction, as described by the CARS linewidth parameter, is degraded by the imperfect coherence of the laser sources. The occurrence of the nonlinear interaction depends on the small size of laser mode widths, or more fundamentally, on the statistical degeneration of each incident field into a small number of independent fields, a property possessed only by optical fields from lasers. If the lasers' contributions to the linewidth parameter are made dominant, the degree of coherence becomes a fixed property of the apparatus, simplifying interpretation of CARS spectra and extending the range of usefulness of CARS well beyond what would otherwise be expected. Available numerical values plus considerations of effects such as mode frequency chirp suggest that domination of the coherence by the apparatus can be arranged or at least approached in most cases.

Book Application of Coherent Anti Stokes Raman Scattering to Combustion Media

Download or read book Application of Coherent Anti Stokes Raman Scattering to Combustion Media written by Larry P. Goss and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A laboratory-based system utilizing the Nd:YAG laser has been developed to investigate the Coherent Anti-Stokes Raman Scattering (CARS) of molecular gases in combustion. Single-shot and simultaneous experimental measurements of species concentration and temperature of combustion media are reported and compared with other optical techniques and theoretical predictions. The adverse effects of beam propagation through turbulence are investigated and discussed. A transportable hardened CARS system, constructed to operate in adverse environments, has been used to conduct a series of investigations in a practical combustion tunnel. Temperature and number-density measurements made as a function of fuel-air flow, position in the combustion tunnel, and fuel variation--including both gaseous and liquid fuels--are reported. Book Accurate Measurements of Combustion Species Concentrations Using CARS Coherent Antistokes Raman Scattering

Download or read book Accurate Measurements of Combustion Species Concentrations Using CARS Coherent Antistokes Raman Scattering written by R. L. Farrow and published by . This book was released on 1986 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We present results of research at the Combustion Research Facility, Sandia National Lab., on improving the capabilities of coherent anti-Stokes Raman spectroscopy (CARS) for species concentration measurements in combustion gases. Scanning CARS experiments based on single- and multi-mode Nd:YAG lasers, and on pulse-amplified and conventional pulsed dye lasers have been used to evaluate an in situ normalization technique, to measure Raman linewidths in flames, and to determine nonresonant electronic susceptibilities. We discuss experimental and theoretical considerations affecting concentration measurement accuracy.

Book Time resolved Coherent Anti Stokes Raman Spectroscopy CARS and the Measurement of Vibrational Spectra in Shock compressed Molecular Materials

Download or read book Time resolved Coherent Anti Stokes Raman Spectroscopy CARS and the Measurement of Vibrational Spectra in Shock compressed Molecular Materials written by and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 8 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We present the use of coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering (CARS) in conjunction with a two-stage light-gas gun to obtain vibrational spectra of shock-compressed liquid N2, O2, CO, and their mixtures. The experimental spectra are compared to spectra calculated using a semiclassical model for CARS intensities to obtain vibrational frequencies, peak Raman susceptibilities, and linewidths. The derived spectroscopic parameters suggest thermal equilibrium of the vibrational populations is established in less than a few nanoseconds after shock passage. Vibrational temperatures obtained are compared to those derived from equation-of-state calculations. Shifts in the vibrational frequencies reflect the influence of increased density and temperature on the intramolecular motion. 11 refs., 5 figs.

Book Single Beam Coherent Anti Stokes Raman Scattering Spectroscopy of N2 Using a Shaped 7 Fs Laser Pulse

Download or read book Single Beam Coherent Anti Stokes Raman Scattering Spectroscopy of N2 Using a Shaped 7 Fs Laser Pulse written by and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 4 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The feasibility is explored by single-beam coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering CARS spectroscopy of gas-phase diatomic molecules related to combusting flows, with implications for gas-phase thermometry. We demonstrate CARS of gas-phase N2 using a shaped 7 fs laser pulse, investigate the dependence of the CARS signal on the total pressure of the probed environment, both in pure N2 and in mixtures with Ar, discuss the observed signal-to-noise ratio, and suggest improvements to be considered for reliable single-shot measurements at flame temperatures.
