Book Coded Aperture Design in Compressive Spectral Imaging

Download or read book Coded Aperture Design in Compressive Spectral Imaging written by Laura Galvis-Carreno and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 94 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Compressive Spectral Imaging (CSI) systems sense 3D spatio-spectral data cubes through just few two dimensional (2D) projections by using a coded aperture, a dispersive element, and an FPA. The coded apertures in these systems, whose main function is the modulation of the data cube, are often implemented through photomasks attached to piezoelectric devices. The optimization of such coded aperture patterns is an actual area of research. Two remarkable improvements on this configuration have been recently proposed. First, the replacement of the photomask by digital micromirror devices (DMD) for block-unblock coding in order to facilitate the capture of multiple projections/snapshots or the capture of multiple shots at video rates without the displacement of the optical elements on the system. Secondly, the replacement of block-unblock coded apertures by patterned optical filter arrays, referred as “colored” coded apertures, which not only allow spatial modulation but spectral modulation as well. Despite the improvements, the design of the coded aperture patterns is still constrained by hardware considerations. This dissertation aims to overcome these hardware considerations by developing different coded aperture design strategies. ☐ When using the DMD for coding the data cube, the DMD resolution and the possibility to use multiple shots have to be considered. Usually, the pitch size of the DMD mirrors is different than the pitch size of the pixels in the detector. The mismatch of the DMD mirrors and the detector pixels is such that pixel-to-pixel correspondence is not achieved. The first proposed strategy is a mismatching coded aperture design to exploit the maximum resolution of the coding element and the detector. Additionally, the capture of multiple snapshots could be highly exploited to extract prior-information of the scenes, here a second strategy is proposed, the use of side information in CSI not only to improve the reconstructions but to design scenes-adaptive coded aperture patterns. ☐ On the other hand, when using “colored” coded apertures, its real implementation in terms of cost and complexity, directly depends on the number of filters to be used as well as the number of shots. A shifting color coded aperture optimization featuring these observations is proposed as the third strategy with the aim to improve the quality reconstruction and to generate an achievable optical implementation. ☐ The mathematical models of the different strategies of computational imaging to overcome the limitations of actual CSI systems will be presented along with testbed implementations. Simulations as well as experimental results will prove the accuracy and performance of the three proposed coding strategies.

Book Multispectral Image Sensors Using Metasurfaces

Download or read book Multispectral Image Sensors Using Metasurfaces written by Xin He and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-12-03 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents how metasurfaces are exploited to develop new low-cost single sensor based multispectral cameras. Multispectral cameras extend the concept of conventional colour cameras to capture images with multiple color bands and with narrow spectral passbands. Images from a multispectral camera can extract significant amount of additional information that the human eye or a normal camera fails to capture and thus have important applications in precision agriculture, forestry, medicine, object identifications, and classifications. Conventional multispectral cameras are made up of multiple image sensors each externally fitted with a narrow passband wavelength filters, optics and multiple electronics. The need for multiple sensors for each band results in a number of problems such as being bulky, power hungry and suffering from image co-registration problems which in turn limits their wide usage. The above problems can be eliminated if a multispectral camera is developed using one single image sensor.

Book Sparse representation of visual data for compression and compressed sensing

Download or read book Sparse representation of visual data for compression and compressed sensing written by Ehsan Miandji and published by Linköping University Electronic Press. This book was released on 2018-11-23 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ongoing advances in computational photography have introduced a range of new imaging techniques for capturing multidimensional visual data such as light fields, BRDFs, BTFs, and more. A key challenge inherent to such imaging techniques is the large amount of high dimensional visual data that is produced, often requiring GBs, or even TBs, of storage. Moreover, the utilization of these datasets in real time applications poses many difficulties due to the large memory footprint. Furthermore, the acquisition of large-scale visual data is very challenging and expensive in most cases. This thesis makes several contributions with regards to acquisition, compression, and real time rendering of high dimensional visual data in computer graphics and imaging applications. Contributions of this thesis reside on the strong foundation of sparse representations. Numerous applications are presented that utilize sparse representations for compression and compressed sensing of visual data. Specifically, we present a single sensor light field camera design, a compressive rendering method, a real time precomputed photorealistic rendering technique, light field (video) compression and real time rendering, compressive BRDF capture, and more. Another key contribution of this thesis is a general framework for compression and compressed sensing of visual data, regardless of the dimensionality. As a result, any type of discrete visual data with arbitrary dimensionality can be captured, compressed, and rendered in real time. This thesis makes two theoretical contributions. In particular, uniqueness conditions for recovering a sparse signal under an ensemble of multidimensional dictionaries is presented. The theoretical results discussed here are useful for designing efficient capturing devices for multidimensional visual data. Moreover, we derive the probability of successful recovery of a noisy sparse signal using OMP, one of the most widely used algorithms for solving compressed sensing problems.
