Download or read book International Rider One written by Melanie Patton and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2012-05-14 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: International Rider I - Foundation Horsemanship - The International Riding Academy offers four main levels of horsemanship. These levels are progressive and designed for riders 12 years and older, however there are open to riders of any age. Riders not yet ready for this program and try the Young Rider program with four easier levels. This program is not designed to replace a riding coach or instructor, rather to just aid in riding lessons. In fact, the program can help as a guideline in the coach's riding lesson program. As well, the levels give the student a proper horsemanship skill base and education in stable management. Graduates of the program can go on to become Stable Managers, Horse Trainers and Coaches! Each level consists of a Work book and informative DVDs. Testing is open book and all multiple choice. A passing grade is 60%. Mounted work is done by video testing and passing grade is 55%. There are several tests for each level, the majority will be theory tests and there will always be one riding theory test. Mounted videos are: Assessment, Flat and Gymnastic (except Rider I). Classical Horsemanship is the foundation of all disciplines, therefore it is also used as a base test for the levels, however not everyone enjoys English riding; therefore, there is also a Western option. A rider may use one to several horses for testing and there is no time limit. The rider just needs to be a current member and enrolled in the proper riding level class. Upon completion a rider will be issued a certificate. Tests can be sent in anytime. Riding tests are done once per semester with four semesters throughout the year. Danish award ribbons are awarded for each mounted test. The rider level program is closely structured to the theories of the four great riding schools of classical horsemanship, Vienna, Jerez, Lisbon and Saumur, as well as from some of the world's top riders of all time. The systemic levels increase in difficulty and intensity. Rider I is for all ages who wish to study ground work, safety and the riding basics that should not be skipped by even the experienced rider. Even though Rider I is the beginning stage of horsemanship and considered an introduction, it covers a lot of theory of the aids and gaits in order to set the rider's education for the next level up. Riders learn and show the basics of riding walk trot with some aids. The rider should have an independent seat and not balance on the horse's mouth. Riders must show safety skills and confidence in the saddle as well as on the ground. Sometimes the aid of a coach is allowed in the tests, however it must be predominantly the rider performing all tasks and issuing orders for how to help if need be, such as hold the halter, or help lift the saddle (should the rider by very small or young). But excessive coaching and outside interference is prohibited, especially in the Classical tests. Tack can vary in styles, but not be mixed and matched. For example, an English rider should use all English tack and attire. Rider clothing can be academic. Please, refer to the Disciplines for proper tack and attire. The horse's turn-out is important, however the horse does not need to be clipped or braided. An effort must be shown to have the horse clean and presentable. During the test a reader can call out directions. Once you have purchased this book, contact the International Riding Academy for details and the rest of the course information for free. • Publisher :
  • Release : 2017
  • ISBN : 9781910016145
  • Pages : 0 pages

Download or read book Rider Biomechanics written by Mary Wanless and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rider Biomechanics is a collaboration between rider biomechanics coach Mary Wanless and functional anatomist Thomas Myers. Myer's seminal book Anatomy Trains explains how connective tissue joins muscles together into functional chains. Some of these chains extend from head to toe, and they are the 'lines of pull'. Elite riders excel in balancing the tension in their lines, creating a stable balanced structure which can transmit and redirect the forces of the horse's movement. Easy, fluid, sitting eludes less skilled riders - but this book, with its copious photographs and illustrations, provides a route map for reorganising 'lines of pull', sitting, and influence on one's horse. It is through balancing one's own lines that you learn how to balance one's horse, changing his carriage and movement, and discovering the secrets of the few talented riders who naturally possess those skills.

Book RIDE SMARTER ON TO THE NEXT LEVEL OF HO

Download or read book RIDE SMARTER ON TO THE NEXT LEVEL OF HO written by Craig Cameron and published by Morris Communications Corp. This book was released on 2013-10-15 with total page 207 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since 2004, when Craig Cameron’s book Ride Smart was printed, the clinician’s popularity has only grown. With his 2010 championship at the prestigious Road to the Horse, he gained even more followers to his no-nonsense approach to training and riding. Cameron’s easygoing teaching style, beloved by his students, is now found in this follow-up to his popular first book. In Ride Smarter, readers learn to further develop their horsemanship skills and continue on the road to becoming true horsemen and -women. Cameron continues to build on some of the topics covered in his first volume, and adds valuable information that riders of all levels of expertise can use in improving their riding experiences. Early chapters in this second book talk about the qualities that make a good horseman, and the responsibilities each person has to his or her horse. Cameron gives tips on selecting the right horse, making a smart purchase and knowing when it’s time to change horses. He discusses caring for your horse at home and on the road, something he’s familiar with after logging thousands of miles with his horses in tow. In Ride Smarter’s later chapters, Cameron addresses the advantages of different bits, and then delves into the use of cues and how important they are. He also discusses the fine art of correction, and helps readers understand when discipline is necessary, and offers tips on understanding and riding the different gaits. One of Cameron’s goals when training is to develop a horse that does anything the horseman asks, and in one chapter Cameron relates how to create what he calls the “brave horse.” He then discusses the advantages of cross-training between the arena and the trail, and patterns and obstacles that you can use to advance both your and your horse’s skills. In his clinics, Cameron answers numerous questions about problem horses, and Chapter 15 addresses the most frequently discussed problems and the clinician’s approach to fixing each one. Cameron also takes a humorous look at some “people problems” that your horse might tell you about if he could talk. And finally, this top hand talks about setting goals for your horse and your horsemanship, and how valuable having that sense of direction can be. As in Cameron’s first book, chapters in this second book, Ride Smarter, include a “True Story,” a personal anecdote about a memorable experience; “Here’s How” with simple and practical training tips; and “A Better Way,” which provides workable approaches to common problems encountered in achieving horsemanship and horse-handling goals. Anyone who has been to Cameron’s clinics can appreciate the straightforward instruction the Texas horseman offers. Those who haven’t had the pleasure of meeting Craig Cameron in person get a good look at the training techniques and coaching skills that have earned him a reputation as the “Cowboy’s Clinician.” Ride Smarter helps readers advance in the adventure of horsemanship.
