Download or read book Research in Verbal Behavior and Some Neurophysiological Implications written by Kurt Salzinger and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 529 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Research in Verbal Behavior and Some Neurophysiological Implications focuses on varied approaches to the study of language, including verbal behavior in animals, mimicry, linguistics, and verbal satiation. The selection first offers information on verbal behavior in animals and dolphin's vocal mimicry as a unique ability and a way toward understanding. The book also ponders on the problem of response class in verbal behavior and verbal operant conditioning and awareness. Discussions focus on state of the organism as a determinant of response class, topography of response, common stimulus, and common effect. The publication takes a look at a behavioral basis for the polarity principle in linguistics, acquisition of grammar by children, and interdependencies of the bilingual's two languages. The manuscript also elaborates on verbal satiation and exploration of meaning relations and grammatical indicants of speaking style in normal and aphasic speakers. The selection is highly recommended for readers wanting to study verbal behavior.

Book Language Acquisition in Study Abroad and Formal Instruction Contexts

Download or read book Language Acquisition in Study Abroad and Formal Instruction Contexts written by Carmen Pérez-Vidal and published by John Benjamins Publishing Company. This book was released on 2014-07-15 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This publication constitutes essential reading for academics, teachers and language policy makers wanting to understand, plan, and implement an educational language program involving learner mobility. The book provides data and analyses from a long-term program of research on study abroad (the SALA Project), which looked into the short and long-term effects of instructional and mobility contexts on language and cultural development from two perspectives: the participants’ language acquisition development over 2,5 years, and the practitioners’ perspective in relation to the design and implementation of a mobility program. The book is innovative in the longitudinal data it offers, the light it sheds on (i) an array of language skills, both productive and receptive, oral and written, tapping into phonology, lexis, grammar and discourse, (ii) the role of individual differences (including attitudes, motivation, beliefs, and intercultural awareness), and (iii) the insights on the effects of length of stay. In sum, this book represents a welcome addition to previous research on the outcomes of mobility policies to promote L2 learners’ linguistic development and the individual and educational conditions that appear to facilitate success in study abroad programs.

Book Variation and Change in French Morphosyntax

Download or read book Variation and Change in French Morphosyntax written by Anna Tristram and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-07-05 with total page 189 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Collective nouns such asmajorite or foulehave long been of interest to linguists for their unusual semantic properties, and provide a valuable source of new data on the evolution of French grammar. This book tests the hypothesis that plural agreement with collective nouns is becoming more frequent in French. Through an analysis of data from a variety of sources, including sociolinguistic interviews, gap-fill tests and corpora, the complex linguistic and external factors which affect this type of agreement are examined, shedding new light on their interaction in this context. Broader questions concerning the methodological challenges of studying variation and change in morphosyntax, and the application of sociolinguistic generalisations to the French of France, are also addressed.
