France, 1918. Nurse Marcelle Marchand has important secrets to keep. Her role as a spy has made her both feared and revered, but it has also put her in extreme danger from the approaching German army. American soldier George Mountcastle feels an instant connection to the young nurse. But in times of war, love must wait. Soon, George and his best friend Philip are fighting for their lives during the Second Battle of the Marne, where George prevents Philip from a daring act that might have won the battle at the cost of his own life. On the run from a victorious Germany, George and Marcelle begin a new life with Philip and Marcelle’s twin sister, Rosalie, in a brutally occupied France. Together, this self-made family navigates oppression, near starvation, and unfathomable loss, finding love and joy in unexpected moments. Years pass, and tragedy strikes, sending George on a course that could change the past and rewrite history. Playing with time is a tricky thing. If he chooses to alter history, he will surely change his own future—and perhaps not for the better. Download or read book JESUS IS THE BEAM Book One written by Gwynevere A Lamb and published by BookLocker.com. This book was released on 2021-06-10 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Decades ago, Stephen Hawking had predicted that an acceptable equation to a grand unified theory would arrive by the year 2020. He was right! Jesus is the Beam is an autobiography brimming with philosophical ideas from a supernatural journey with God and an unquenchable desire to know the fundamental truth about our origin. The origin of not just our own species, but to know the truth about the spark of life and the energy which sustains it. Gwynevere Lamb challenges all conventional theories of everything as she presents an intuitive pre-numerical formula to the four standard forces of energy and all life as we know it, re-illustrating time and space. She slices in half the nucleus of our reality with a nuclear knife without the need of an atom smasher! Finally a simple, sensible, and satisfactory equation to a grand unified field even a 2nd grader can understand! The author's journey continues in her 2nd installment, God is the Boom, as she dissects truth from fiction (in light of her grand unified equation) in all things (from scientific discoveries to human behaviors), giving new meaning to the theory of everything. The story climbs to an epic ending summing up both books on the summit of Mount Calvary as she explains the purpose of the cross of Jesus Christ in quantum mechanical terms. The author has a knack of explaining continuums of time and space as well as parental discipline. She makes math and science (to include particle physics) understandable to persons without any scientific background by painting pictures with her words as well as thrilling readers with adventurous real-life-stories. Gwynevere Lamb (using the poetry of math and science) stitches the fabric of time and space to earth, air, water, and fire and just about everything else. She explains how the “Fire of God” becomes hellfire in sub-atomic scenarios. On the other end of the spectrum she paints a picture of love flowing like living water. She offers a myriad of continuums not exclusive to particle physics. She seamlessly threads the needle to include human life sciences and social and political ideas commonly taught in todays media-driven pop paradigm set by our modern new age culture. She leaves the reader with an acute awareness of what the singularity is, what unified purification is, and why it is central to our existence. Jesus is the Beam and God is the Boom was originally written as one manuscript. Dividing them into two separate books was initially a concern for the author because she did not want her readers to miss the climax at the end of the story. She came to terms with the “separation” after realizing that Jesus is the Beam rests on God is the Boom (literally), thereby making it a blessing in disguise. She is confident readers will be enamored at the end of the first book and equally eager to pick up the second with anticipation. Gwynevere Lamb believes her readers will be satisfied and “well fed” after consuming both books, however, a third and fourth installment are already in the making... in the writing.

Download or read book The Dervish House written by Ian McDonald and published by Jabberwocky Literary Agency, Inc.. This book was released on 2018-03-05 with total page 572 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Another day, another tram bomb. It seems everyone is after a piece of Turkey. But the shock waves from this random act of twenty-first-century terrorism will ripple far beyond Necatibey Cadessi. Welcome to the world of The Dervish House—the great, ancient, paradoxical city of Istanbul, divided like a human brain, in the great, ancient, equally paradoxical nation of Turkey. With a population pushing one hundred million, and Istanbul alone swollen to fifteen million, Turkey is the largest, most populous, and most diverse nation in the new Europe, but also one of the poorest and most socially divided. It's a boom economy, the sweatshop of Europe, the bazaar of central Asia, the key to the immense gas wealth of Russia and central Asia. The Dervish House is seven days, six characters, and three interconnected story strands all woven around the common core of the old dervish house of Aden Dede. A terror attack, a vision of djinn, a commodities scam, a hunt for half a miniature Koran that holds the key to new technology, and a quest for a creature from Arabic legend—that may not be so legendary after all. Praise for The Dervish House “To read McDonald is to fall in love with a place and to become drunk with it....If you've never read him, you're in for a treat. If you're a fan like me, you'll be delighted anew. What a wonderful, wonderful book.”—Boing Boing "The Dervish House is an audacious look at the shift in the power centers of the world and an intense vision of one possible future." —New York Times “Hugely adventurous and entertaining, sumptuously inventive and full of heart... it is likely to rank as Ian McDonald’s finest creative achievement.” —Locus

Download or read book Afrodiasporic Forms written by Raquel Kennon and published by LSU Press. This book was released on 2022-06-29 with total page 389 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Afrodiasporic Forms explores the epistemological possibilities of the “Black world” paradigm and traces a literary and cultural cartography of the monde noir and its constitutive African diasporas across multiple poetic, visual, and cultural permutations. Examining the transatlantic slave trade and modern racial slavery, Raquel Kennon challenges the US-centric focus of slavery studies and draws on a transnational, eclectic archive of materials from Lusophone, Hispanophone, and Anglophone sources in the Americas to inspect evolving, multitudinous, and disparate forms of Afrodiasporic cultural expression. Spanning the 1830s to the twenty-first century, Afrodiasporic Forms traverses national, linguistic, and disciplinary boundaries as it investigates how cultural products of slavery’s afterlife—including poetry, prose, painting, television, sculpture, and song—shape understandings of the African diaspora. Each chapter uncovers multidirectional pathways for exploring representations of slavery, considering works such as a Brazilian telenovela based on Bernardo Guimarães’s novel A Escrava Isaura, Robert Hayden’s poem “Middle Passage,” Kara Walker’s sculpture A Subtlety, and Juan Francisco Manzano’s Autobiografía de un esclavo. Kennon’s expansive method of comparative reading across the diaspora uses eclectic pairings of canonical and popular textual and artistic sources to stretch beyond disciplinary and national borders, promoting expansive diasporic literacies.
Download or read book Tapestry written by Aireal Seas and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2015-07-07 with total page 279 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tapestry: The Child Within is a collection of experiences, stories, and lessons as seen through the eyes of the woman who holds this memory of her childhood inside. Therefore, this is not a chronological order of events, but more the woman finding ways to embrace wholeness inside her changing world and path to wellness. Who we are and what we become is not about what is done to us, but more about how we use our life experiences and focus to see our own hearts. Perceptions can teach us there are different sides to the same picture we hold in our minds eye. To change our world, we need but change how we perceive our world. As we keep in mind that no matter how sincere a perception is, that perception can be sincerely wrong. As we stretch our understanding without lingering, or getting attached to the fears within us, we can become whole and well, as a new innocence and strength takes root within our souls light. Tucked in these pages, as if this book was a box of puzzle pieces, you will find many thoughts, memories, parts of a story, and pieces of truths that sometimes seem like they have no connection. But much like clothes hung on a clothesline or birds sitting on a wire, there is one constant connection. That connection is how to be well, and how to heal from within. You will find pieces and parts that may touch your heart. May you also find the connection within your own memories, childhood, heart, and soul come together on your own path to defining what healing and being well means to you. As you face your own truths in the light of the sacredness of life, I hope you will be well. When in doubt, I trust you may step back and see the bigger picture and just how amazing and wonderful you and your story are.

Book excerpt: The archaeology of maritime cultural landscapes offers insights into cultural traditions, social transitions, and cultural relationships that reach beyond the narrow confines of waterfronts and beach strands and helps construct meaningful social histories. The long shore of California is not limited to the land that borders the Pacific Ocean, but includes the navigable waters that reach inland, the off-shore islands, and the riverways flow to the sea. Download or read book The Gospel and the Mind written by Bradley G. Green and published by Crossway. This book was released on 2010-11-03 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: History demonstrates that wherever the cross is planted, the academy follows. But history alone cannot demonstrate why this is—and must be—the case. Green engages theology and philosophy to prove that the Christian vision of God, mankind, and the world provides the necessary precondition for and enduring foundation of meaningful intellectual life. The Gospel and the Mind, deeply rooted in Augustinian and Reformed thought, shows that core principles of the West's Christian inheritance—such as creation and the importance of history, the centrality of a telos to all things, and the logos and the value of words—form the matrix of any promising and sustainable intellectual life. More than a lament of the state of the evangelical mind or even an argument for the primacy of a Christian worldview, The Gospel and the Mind is a paradigm-shifting declaration that the life of the mind starts at the cross.
