Book Ice Tunnel Closure Phenomena

Download or read book Ice Tunnel Closure Phenomena written by John F. Abel and published by . This book was released on 1961 with total page 56 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The mechanics of closure, exhibited by ice tunnels, can be understood by considering the ice as a viscous solid. The viscous solid will flow, when subjected to a force, at a rate dependent on the magnitude of the force, the area of relief open for flow, and the apparent viscosity of the viscous solid. In the case of the ice tunnels, the force inducing the flow is the weight of the overburden; the area of relief open for flow is the tunnel opening; and apparent viscosity is the resistance to flow exhibited by the ice. The closure of a rectangular opening made in ice was measured. Maximum closure occurs at the center of unsupported roof, wall, or floor spans. The vertical closure rate decreases negligibly approximately 2% from the center of a room to approximately 6 ft from the wall. From the point about 6 ft from the wall to the wall, the closure rate decreases about 30%. Approximately 30% of vertical closure at the center of the span is due to flexure of the floor and roof. The remaining 70% is due to shortening of the wall height; the major portion of this wall closure occurs at the bottom of the wall. Over 80% of closure due to flexure of the floor and roof results from flexure of the floor. (Author).

Book IGA Non Invasive Coupling with FEM and Regularization of Digital Image Correlation Problems Volume 2

Download or read book IGA Non Invasive Coupling with FEM and Regularization of Digital Image Correlation Problems Volume 2 written by Robin Bouclier and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2023-07-26 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Isogeometric analysis (IGA) consists of using the same higher-order and smooth spline functions for the representation of geometry in Computer Aided Design as for the approximation of solution fields in Finite Element Analysis. Now, almost twenty years after its creation, substantial works are being reported in IGA, making it very competitive in scientific computing. This book proposes to use IGA jointly with standard finite element methods (FEM), presenting IGA as a projection of FEM on a more regular reduced basis. By shedding new light on how IGA relates to FEM, we can see how IGA can be implemented on top of an FE code in order to improve the solution of problems that require more regularity. This is illustrated by using IGA with FEM in a non-invasive fashion to perform efficient and robust multiscale global/local simulations in solid mechanics. Furthermore, we show that IGA can regularize the inverse problem of FE digital image correlation in experimental mechanics.

Book Vascular Surgery Neurosurgery Lower Extremity Ulcers Antimicrobials Wound Assessment Care Measurement and Repair

Download or read book Vascular Surgery Neurosurgery Lower Extremity Ulcers Antimicrobials Wound Assessment Care Measurement and Repair written by Melvin A. Shiffman and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-01-21 with total page 183 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book introduces readers to the latest developments regarding pressure injury wounds, diabetic wounds, and negative pressure wound therapy. The first part exclusively deals with wounds from pressure ulcers, describing in detail their prevention, classification, and treatment. In turn, chapters addressing diabetic wounds form the middle part of the book. Here, the authors provide guidance on the medication and treatment (e.g. stem cells, laser) of patients suffering from this disease. The book’s last part, which focuses on negative pressure wound therapy, addresses all major aspects of this approach, reflecting the latest research. Illustrated with a wealth of high-quality pictures throughout, the book offers a unique resource for both beginners and experienced plastic surgeons.

Book Measurement of the Thermodynamic Properties of Single Phases

Download or read book Measurement of the Thermodynamic Properties of Single Phases written by Anthony Goodwin and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2003-07-03 with total page 577 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This title is a revision of Experimental Thermodynamics Volume II, published in 1975, reflecting the significant technological developments and new methods introduced into the study of measurement of thermodynamic quantities. The editors of this volume were assigned the task of assembling an international team of distinguished experimentalists, to describe the current state of development of the techniques of measurement of the thermodynamic quantities of single phases. The resulting volume admirably fulfils this brief and contains a valuable summary of a large variety of experimental techniques applicable over a wide range of thermodynamic states with an emphasis on the precision and accuracy of the results obtained. Those interested in the art of measurements, and in particular engaged in the measurement of thermodynamic properties, will find this material invaluable for the guidance it provides towards the development of new and more accurate techniques.·Provides detailed descriptions of experimental chemical thermodynamic methods·Strong practical bias and includes both detailed working equations and figures for the experimental methods·Most comprehensive text in this field since the publication of Experimental Thermodynamics II
