Book excerpt: Veterinary Clinical Parasitology, Eighth Edition, prepared under the auspices of the American Association of Veterinary Parasitologists (AAVP), emphasizes the morphologic identification of both internal and external parasites of domestic animals. Focusing on the tests and information most relevant to daily practice, the book describes accurate, cost-effective techniques for diagnosing parasitic infections in animals. Including clear, easy-to-find information on the distribution, life cycle, and importance of each parasite, Veterinary Clinical Parasitology offers more than 450 images to aid with diagnosis. The Eighth Edition includes a new chapter on immunologic and molecular diagnosis, increased coverage of ticks and new sections on identification of microfilariae and larvae in diagnostic samples. The new edition also features expanded information on quantitative egg counts, detection of anthelmintic resistance and identification of ruminant strongylid larvae. Additional improvements include many new images throughout the book, revised taxonomic information, a new layout featuring tabs by section to improve user-friendliness, and a companion website offering the images from the book in PowerPoint at www.wiley.com/go/zajac. Veterinary Clinical Parasitology is a highly practical benchside reference invaluable to clinicians, technicians, and students.

Book Clinical Pathology and Laboratory Techniques for Veterinary Technicians

This book was released on 2024-01-17 with total page 372 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Clinical Pathology and Laboratory Techniques for Veterinary Technicians Up-to-date, practical reference book demonstrating laboratory procedures in dogs, cats, cattle and horses The newly revised and updated Second Edition of Clinical Pathology and Laboratory Techniques for Veterinary Technicians is an inclusive reference on laboratory procedures pertaining to small animals, horses, and cattle, providing information on hematology, hemostasis, clinical chemistry, urinalysis, parasitology, endocrine testing, and quality assurance. The text clarifies ‘how-to’ information while also discussing the importance of ‘why’ laboratory procedures are performed in a particular way, enabling readers to gain true understanding of the topics discussed. To aid in reader comprehension, high-quality photographs labeled with magnification and stain information, which clearly depict cellular morphology, inclusions, and infectious organisms, are included throughout each chapter. The text also offers key objectives, technician tip boxes, case examples, and a glossary of key terms, along with a companion website that provides instructor questions, and an answer key to multiple choice questions in the book. Clinical Pathology and Laboratory Techniques for Veterinary Technicians includes information on: Sample collection, handling, and quality assurance, to ensure laboratory test results are valid Hematology data collection techniques that may be used on a daily basis to evaluate the overall health of animal patients Clinical chemistry data to indicate organ function, covering how different chemicals measured in patient samples relate to the function of specific organs in the body In-house parasitology procedures, with important advances in molecular diagnostics have been made that improve the detection and identification of parasites Information about common endocrinopathies and submission of samples for endocrine testing. With complete coverage of the subject, Clinical Pathology and Laboratory Techniques for Veterinary Technicians is an essential resource for students enrolled in veterinary technology programs and veterinary colleges, and may be used as a textbook to guide and supplement information provided in both didactic and laboratory-based clinical pathology courses.

Book Practical Guide to Diagnostic Parasitology

Download or read book Practical Guide to Diagnostic Parasitology written by Lynne Shore Garcia and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2021-04-13 with total page 592 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the 21st century the field of diagnostic medical parasitology continues to see dramatic changes, including newly recognized pathogens and the changing endemicity and classification of familiar organisms; neglected tropical diseases and the impact of global climate change; and new methodologies and risk management issues. This classic clinical laboratory parasitology reference, now in its third edition, has been extensively revised and updated in a new full-color format. Still organized to provide maximum help to the user, particularly from the bench perspective, every section has been expanded with new images and discussion. Specimen collection, preservation, and testing options are thoroughly discussed, from the routine ova and parasite examination to blood films, fecal immunoassays, and the newer molecular test panels. Specific test procedures, laboratory methods and reagents, and algorithms are provided. The ever-helpful "FAQ" section of commonly asked questions now offers expanded information on stool specimen fixatives and testing, thorough coverage of new techniques, and advice on reporting and commenting on results. The heart of the Guide, covering identification of individual pathogens, has been expanded with more discussion and comparison of organisms and dozens of new color images. An entirely new section has been added that uses extensive figures and new tables to illustrate common problems with differentiating organisms from one another and from possible microscopic artifacts. The final section has been reorganized to include identification keys and dozens of tables summarizing organism characteristics to assist the bench microbiologist with routine diagnostic testing methods.

Book Publications Combined PARASITOLOGY I II BACTERIOLOGY LABORATORY MATHEMATICS GENERAL CHEMISTRY AND CLINICAL CHEMISTRY

Download or read book Publications Combined PARASITOLOGY I II BACTERIOLOGY LABORATORY MATHEMATICS GENERAL CHEMISTRY AND CLINICAL CHEMISTRY written by and published by Jeffrey Frank Jones. This book was released on 2019-03-14 with total page 1213 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over 1,200 total pages .... Parasitic infection can greatly interfere with a soldier's ability to complete his mission. The presence of parasites in a soldier's system can not only interfere with his ability to function, but also can make him susceptible to certain diseases. Since soldiers may serve in most areas of the world, you must be able to identify parasites that are found in the various parts of the globe. In your job as a medical laboratory specialist, you will perform a variety of test procedures on samples taken from humans. Some of these samples will include feces and tissue scrapings used in the diagnosis and treatment of parasitic infection. Therefore, you must be knowledgeable in several areas of parasitology. The knowledge you will need is reflected in the two subcourses you are about to study. Subcourses Parasitology I and Parasitology II address areas of particular importance in parasitology. The whole purpose of clinical laboratory procedures is to provide the clinician doing diagnostic work with specific information needed to round out his picture of the disorders he has observed in the patient. Clinical bacteriology can contribute its part by supplying data about the microscopic life involved and the susceptibility of such life to particular drugs. To identify bacterial growth, you must take certain steps that will enable you, through a process of elimination, to choose the microscopic form that fits the findings you have obtained. Steps that are often essential include: 1. Observing the type of growth when first isolated on culture media. 2 Making a microscopic examination on stained material from an isolated culture of that colony. 3. Performing various tests to obtain a list of the characteristics of the organism. 4. Making a complete identification of the organism. This subcourse was developed to prepare and sustain your mathematical skills as a Medical Laboratory Specialist. The emphasis is upon computations related to solutions and their concentrations. If you feel that you need a more basic review of mathematics before taking this subcourse, you should request Subcourse Basic Mathematics, which covers addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of whole numbers; decimals, and fractions; and conversions to and from the metric system. In the process of achieving and maintaining proficiency in your military occupational specialty (MOS), you will be learning concepts and performing tasks that are based on important chemical principles. As you become more proficient with these principles, you may reach the point where you will not need to give them much conscious thought. Meanwhile, however, you should study this subcourse to gain a working knowledge of the fundamental principles of chemistry. Subcourse Clinical Chemistry I, provides you with a background in the laboratory basics of clinical chemistry. Laboratory safety; collection, preservation, and shipment of specimens; measurement of weights and volumes; introduction to quality control; and introduction to organic chemistry are presented in this subcourse.
