Divisions, as used in Climatological Data Table and on the maps, became effective with data for January 1957. Unless otherwise indicated, dimensional units used in this bulletin are: Temperature in °f, precipitation and evaporation in inches, and wind movement in miles. Monthly degree day totals are the sums of the negative departures of average daily temperatures from 65°f. Evaporation is measured in the standard Weather Bureau type pan of 4 foot diameter unless otherwise shown by footnote following the Evaporation and Wind Table. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Climatological Data, Arkansas, 1951, Vol. 56 The weather over Arkansas during January 1951 was generally favorable for outdoor work and the growth of winter crops. The monthly mean temperature for the state was which is above the normal. The highest monthly mean temperature was at Okay and the lowest was at Gravette. The highest temperature recorded during the month was 80 five miles north of Magnolia on the 18th and at Okay on the 28th. The lowest temperature recorded was -2 at White Rock on the 3lst. There was an average of 19 days with temperatures of 32 or lower. Three sta tions, Gravette, Lutherville and White Rock, reported temperatures of zero or below, all of which occurred during the closing days of the month. Temperatures averaged near normal until the closing days of the month when a cold wave brought unseasonably cold weather to the state.
