Do you know why? Because they are the oldest breed of horses native to England! Where do they come from? These horses came from the Cleveland area of North Yorkshire in England. This is why they are called Cleveland Bays. But this is not the only reason for their name. What color are they? Can you guess? Do you remember what a Bay is? Bay horses Bay horses have a special coat color. Look at the pictures closely. What color do you think it is? Brown, dark red, dark brown or a mix of these colors? Ready? Drumroll please….The color is reddish brown! Now look at the legs. They are darker than the rest of the body. So these beautiful horses are reddish brown with a black mane, legs and tail. Even the tips of the ears are black! This coloring is called “black points.” This color is what makes the horse, and if it doesn’t have these color characteristics, it cannot be a Cleveland Bay!

Here's a quick rundown of the Cleveland Bay breed of horse: 1. The Cleveland Bay horse has its roots in northeastern England, specifically the city of Cleveland. It is one of the oldest horse breeds in England, with a history stretching back several centuries. 2. Cleveland Bay horses are distinguished by their distinctive bay coat color, a reddish brown with a black mane and tail. They usually feature an elegant, well-proportioned head, a powerful, arched neck, well defined withers, a small, solid body, and powerful, stout legs. 3. Size and Proportions: Typically measuring between 16 and 17 hands (64 and 68 inches or 163 and 173 cm) at the withers, these horses are big and strong. Their muscular build makes them useful in many fields, from agriculture to the automobile industry. 4. Cleveland Bays were once widely employed because of their strength, stamina, and adaptability; they might be seen pulling carriages, plowing fields, and transporting goods. They were also used for riding and pulling carriages. 5. Cleveland Bay horses are well-known for their mild demeanor. They have a pleasant disposition and are open to working with others. 6. Cleveland Bay horses are an endangered species due to their low population numbers. Conservation efforts have been conducted to preserve and protect this breed from extinction. Today, while Cleveland Bay horses are still utilized in some traditional farming and equestrian activities, their numbers are quite modest, and they are considered a rare and endangered breed.
