Download or read book Cleanse Diets How to Lose Weight With Shakeology Blueprint Cleanse Master Cleanse and More written by Sue Kim and published by Hyperink Inc. This book was released on 2012-07-30 with total page 39 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ABOUT THE BOOK If you've ever listened to an enthusiastic juice faster, her testimonial can come across as a little far-fetched. From dropping 10 pounds to sleeping better, having better skin, and banishing grumpiness and chronic fatigue from the day to day grind, it seems as though there is nothing that a couple of days of juice fasting cannot do. While fasting and cleansing for ritual purposes has been part of human history for millennia, the juice cleanse has enjoyed a popular resurgence in recent years. Brands like Cooler Cleanse, Joos, Shakeology, and BluePrint Cleanse are only a couple examples of the many juicing options that have appeared on the market in the last decade or so, all catering to men and women who want to look better and, perhaps more importantly, feel better. Master Cleanse, for example, originated in 1940 as a cure for stomach ulcers before the developer revived it in the '70s as a tool for weight loss. In fact, the weight loss that accompanies refraining from food seems almost a second thought when reading what juice cleanse companies promise the world: everything from increased fertility and normalization of blood pressure to clearer skin and better digestion. No wonder Americans seem infatuated with the liquid diet! In promising to cleanse the body of toxins built up by lack of exercise, improper diet, and contact with everyday chemicals, it seems the answer to a slew of health problems caused by living in our modern world. MEET THE AUTHOR Julie Kim has a degree in English from Dartmouth College and is currently working on her MPhil in Multi-discplinary Gender Studies at Cambridge University. Her main interests include the study of politics and the formation of nationality, early modern British literature, and the construction of culture. She is passionate about nutrition and holistic health and spends her days twisted in various yoga poses, sometimes with her dog Greta by her side. EXCERPT FROM THE BOOK Shakeology is the most gentle of the three juice cleanses in this guide. It is not the traditional cleanse in the sense that one must refrain from all solid foods while on this diet, but the company claims that replacing one meal a day with one of their proprietary shakes will help the body eliminate toxins while feeding the body much-needed nutrients and minerals. Shakeology is also the safest of the three options if you follow their recommended plan: not only replacing one meal a day with this shake, but exercising three times a week and following a balanced diet. A typical shake, with only 160 calories and 15g of protein, boasts a treasure trove of antioxidants to fight free radicals and enzymes to aid digestion, putting some weight behind their promise to detox the body. Because Shakeology is not a juice fast but rather aims to be a long-term lifestyle change, you will not lose rapid pounds on this diet though it may be easier to keep them off in the long term. Since sources like the Mayo Clinic acknowledge that 3,500 calories equals about one pound of fat, you need to burn 3,500 more calories than you consume to lose one pound of fat. While losing one of two pounds a week on the Shakeology diet can be expected with little change to physical activity, any more would be tough without extensive exercise. CHAPTER OUTLINE Cleanse Diets: How to Lose Weight With Shakeology, Blueprint Cleanse, Master Cleanse, and More! + Introduction + Shakeology + BluePrint Cleanse + Master Cleanse + ...and much more

Download or read book Neurotheology written by Andrew Newberg and published by Columbia University Press. This book was released on 2018-03-27 with total page 482 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Religion is often cast in opposition to science. Yet both are deeply rooted in the inner workings of the human brain. With the advent of the modern cognitive neurosciences, the scientific study of religious and spiritual phenomena has become far more sophisticated and wide-ranging. What might brain scans of people in prayer, in meditation, or under the influence of psychoactive substances teach us about religious and spiritual beliefs? Are religion and spirituality reducible to neurological processes, or might there be aspects that, at least for now, transcend scientific claims? In this book, Andrew Newberg explores the latest findings of neurotheology, the multidisciplinary field linking neuroscience with religious and spiritual phenomena. He investigates some of the most controversial—and potentially transformative—implications of a neurotheological approach for the truth claims of religion and our understanding of minds and brains. Newberg leads readers on a tour through key intersections of neuroscience and theology, including the potential evolutionary basis of religion; the psychology of religion, including mental health and brain pathology; the neuroscience of myths, rituals, and mystical experiences; how studies of altered states of consciousness shed new light on the mind-brain relationship; and what neurotheology can tell us about free will. When brain science and religious experience are considered together in an integrated approach, Newberg shows, we might come closer to a fuller understanding of the deepest questions.
Download or read book That Will Never Work written by Marc Randolph and published by Little, Brown. This book was released on 2019-09-17 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the tradition of Phil Knight's Shoe Dog comes the incredible untold story of how Netflix went from concept to company-all revealed by co-founder and first CEO Marc Randolph. Once upon a time, brick-and-mortar video stores were king. Late fees were ubiquitous, video-streaming unheard was of, and widespread DVD adoption seemed about as imminent as flying cars. Indeed, these were the widely accepted laws of the land in 1997, when Marc Randolph had an idea. It was a simple thought—leveraging the internet to rent movies—and was just one of many more and far worse proposals, like personalized baseball bats and a shampoo delivery service, that Randolph would pitch to his business partner, Reed Hastings, on their commute to work each morning. But Hastings was intrigued, and the pair—with Hastings as the primary investor and Randolph as the CEO—founded a company. Now with over 150 million subscribers, Netflix's triumph feels inevitable, but the twenty first century's most disruptive start up began with few believers and calamity at every turn. From having to pitch his own mother on being an early investor, to the motel conference room that served as a first office, to server crashes on launch day, to the now-infamous meeting when Netflix brass pitched Blockbuster to acquire them, Marc Randolph's transformational journey exemplifies how anyone with grit, gut instincts, and determination can change the world—even with an idea that many think will never work. What emerges, though, isn't just the inside story of one of the world's most iconic companies. Full of counter-intuitive concepts and written in binge-worthy prose, it answers some of our most fundamental questions about taking that leap of faith in business or in life: How do you begin? How do you weather disappointment and failure? How do you deal with success? What even is success? From idea generation to team building to knowing when it's time to let go, That Will Never Work is not only the ultimate follow-your-dreams parable, but also one of the most dramatic and insightful entrepreneurial stories of our time.

Download or read book Stop Chasing Pain written by Perry Nickelston and published by Victory Belt Publishing. This book was released on 2020-01-07 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stop Chasing Pain empowers readers to take back control of their lives from pain—to get over their fear of movement and regain a connection with their bodies. Movement is brain candy and neural nitro for the whole body. Change how you move and you change your life! The human body is designed to move. Today’s sedentary lifestyles and cookie-cutter exercise programs make us more prone to pain and injury. The answer lies in going back to how we learned to move in the first place, taking the body back to ground zero and tapping into fundamental human movement patterns. Full-body movements that integrate our muscular subsystems gives us strength, power, flexibility, timing, and coordination. Stability (the ability to control force) rules the movement road. Mobility without the ability to control it becomes a liability. This book helps readers regain stability by using Dr. Perry’s unique RAIL Reset system to optimize function of the movement subsystems. Release, Activate, Integrate, Locomotion is the simple system that teaches people how to move better and keep it that way. Strength isn’t built; it’s granted by the nervous system. The brain is always asking itself how safe a movement is and whether giving us more strength is a good idea. Make the brain and body feel safe (read: stable) and it will give us the movements we want. Proximal stability equals optimal distal mobility. Stop Chasing Pain begins with a fundamental pattern assessment to help readers see where they fall on the movement scale and how much stability they need to regain. Then it explains how to use the RAIL Reset system (Release, Activate, Integrate, Locomotion) to regress movement and progress strength. Mobility restrictions and pain are linked to dysfunction in the five movement subsystems: intrinsics, posterior oblique, anterior oblique, lateral, and deep longitudinal. Without these we don’t move. Dr. Perry shows readers how to release them with rollers, balls, and bands; activate them with Chapman Reflex points; integrate with Powerhouse stretching and Primal Movement Chains fundamental patterns; and then stand up and move (locomotion).

Download or read book Quench written by Dana Cohen and published by Hachette+ORM. This book was released on 2018-03-06 with total page 291 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on breakthrough new science in the field of hydration, Quench debunks many popular myths about "getting enough water" and offers a revolutionary five-day jump start plan that shows how better hydration can reduce or eliminate ailments like chronic headaches, weight gain, gut pain, and even autoimmune conditions. Chronic headaches, brain fog, fatigue, weight gain, insomnia, gut pain, autoimmune conditions. We may think these and other all-too-common modern maladies are due to gluten intake or too much sugar or too little exercise. But there is another missing piece to the health puzzle: Proper hydration. Yes, even in this era of Poland Spring many of us are dehydrated due to moisture-lacking diets, artificial environments, medications, and over-dependence on water as our only source of hydration. For this reason, that new diet or exercise plan may fail because our body doesn't have enough moisture to support it. Quench presents a wellness routine that can reverse all of that, based on breakthrough new science in the field of hydration. Readers will be surprised to learn that drinking too much water can flush out vital nutrients and electrolytes. Here is where "gel water" comes in: the water from plants (like cucumber, berries, aloe), which our bodies are designed to truly absorb right down to the cellular level. In fact, Ms. Bria's work as an anthropologist led her to the realization that desert people stay hydrated almost exclusively from what they eat, including gel plants like cactus. Based on groundbreaking science from the University of Washington's Pollack Water Lab and other research, Quench offers a five-day jump start plan: hydrating meal plans and the heart of the program, smoothies and elixirs using the most hydrating and nutrient-packed plants. Another unique feature of their approach is micro-movements -- small, simple movements you can make a few times a day that will move water through your fascia, the connective tissue responsible for hydrating our bodies. You will experience more energy, focus, and better digestion within five days . . . then move onto the lifetime plan for continued improvements, even elimination of symptoms.
