It is ideal for those wishing to expand their knowledge of an artistic presentation of the female nude. For those who are interested in such things, all the images in this book were created with a Mamiya RB67 camera and 50, 90, and 127MM lenses. All images were shot using Ilford Delta iso 3200 film to enhance the grain and precessed in D-76 developer. The author began photography and photo-journalism in early 1963 when he accepted an offer from his local newspaper to write about and photograph sports events at the Arizona high school where he was a junior. After a stint in the service, he had an opportunity to study photography and printing techniques with Bernard Hoffman, a true gentleman and scholar, and one of the earliest staff photographers for Life Magazine. Since that time he has had thousands of photographs and hundreds of articles published by more than 60 national and international periodicals. He was also a contributing editor for one of them for more than ten years. Topics ran the gamut from professional sports, medicine, archeology, and photography to science. After twenty years away from Arizona he returned in 1985 and it has been the base from which all his photographic excursions are launched. Along with many others he has embraced digital photography but can still be seen, from time to time, peering through the ground glass of a large format camera, hoisting a large medium format 6x7, or indeed still using a 35mm film camera. The photographer currently has fine art photography on exhibit at The Center for Fine Arts in Globe, Arizona, and is currently represented by more than ten stock photo agencies where he has more than 13,000 photographs available for commercial use.

Book excerpt: Under the name Champion Studio, Walter Kundzicz (b. 1925) became one of last of the great pioneers of physique photography when he entered the field in the late 1950s. Unlike the earlier oiled-and-posed demigods who graced the pages of the popular magazines of the day (Strength and Health, Muscle Power, Tomorrow's Man, The Young Physique and similar publications), Champion's handsome young models were a new breed. They were less often competitive bodybuilders and instead seemed more like the bad-boys-next-door that viewers secretly wanted to sneak a peak of in the locker room or fool around with under the bleachers. Kundzicz's images were bold and iconoclastic in their use of costumes, uniforms, props and vivid color. These photographs became wildly popular with mail-order customers and collectors because they stood in stark contrast to most of the physique photography available at that time. While Champion was at its peak in the mid-1960s, Kundzicz launched and published his own magazines, including Big and Go Guys, expanding and strengthening the Champion brand. His ability to create and market these colorful, campy images of handsome young men assured him of a loyal fan base that continues to grow even today, a half century after most of his iconic images were created. In his color photos of nude and semi-nude athletic men of the 50s and 60s, Walter Kundzicz pushed the societal taboos of his time and skirted the fringes of legality. In his Champion Studios he portrayed his toned and scantily clad models in delicate and playful postures that not only lived out and performed common homoerotic fantasies, but also perfectly captured the rigid but changing sexual climate in North America between the Kinsey report and hippy free love. Today Kundzicz is considered one of the best photographers of his genre, with his prints becoming rare collectibles. "Classic Male Nudes", Issue Two of GOLIATH WALLPAPER OF FAME, is dedicated to Walter Kundzicz's outstanding photographic work from this era, and includes a lifesized poster and nine XL-Posters, as well as an autobiographic text by Kundzicz himself. "Goliath Wallpaper of Fame" is a unique poster book collectible with large-scale prints of outstanding photographs, paintings or illsutrations from different artists or movements. In fact, modern superhero comic books showcase a range of complex artistic styles, with diverse connotations. Leading comics scholar Jeffrey A. Brown assesses six distinct approaches to superhero illustration—idealism, realism, cute, retro, grotesque, and noir—examining how each visually represents the superhero as a symbolic construct freighted with meaning.
