Download or read book A Theoretical Study of the Angular Motions of Spinning Bodies in Space written by Jerrold H. Suddath and published by . This book was released on 1961 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Summary: A theoretical study was made of the angular motions of spinning bodies in space. The analysis was based on Euler's dynamic equations which were linearized and solved analytically. The results of the study are directly applicable only to spin-stabilized vehicles with constant moments of inertia and angular displacements not exceeding about 15°. Simple analytical expressions were obtained which relate angular motions to spin-rate and inertia distributions for a given disturbance. Consideration was given to the effects produced by having artificial damping in the system. The study included numerical examples and comparisons of analytical solutions with machine solutions of exact dynamic equations. The analysis indicated that angular motions are sensitive to inertia distributions. In considering a rectangular-pulse pitching moment, it was found that the residual motion was very sensitive to the time at which the moment was removed. Artificial damping due to a perfect proportional control system seemed to be more advantageous to pencil-like configurations than to disk-like configurations.
Download or read book Dyeing to Spin Knit written by Felicia Lo and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2017-01-12 with total page 161 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Inspire and unleash a passion for hand-crafted color! "Unapologetic" is how Felicia Lo always describes her obsession with color and craft. In Dyeing to Spin and Knit, Felicia, founder and creative director of SweetGeorgia Yarns and highly sought after teacher and lecturer, provides clear and accessible guidance for creating gorgeous hand-dyed yarns and spinning fibers and an understanding of how dyeing affects knitted yarn and handspun yarn. Fiber artists will learn the fundamentals of how color works, how to combine and coordinate colors, and how to control the results when dyeing wool and silk yarns and fibers. Spinners will learn how to subdue intense and bright colorways or prevent muddiness in handspun. Knitters will gain the knowledge to avoid or maximize the effects of pooling. And finally, this book will include 10 patterns that use hand-dyed and handspun yarns and fibers to their most exciting advantage in knitting projects. Complete with detailed photographs from Felicia's own dyeing studio, Dyeing to Spin and Knit offers a master class in preparing hand-dyed yarns and fibers. Ignite your love of color--unapologetically!
Download or read book Advanced Nanofibrous Materials Manufacture Technology based on Electrospinning written by Yanbo Liu and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2019-04-23 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book comprehensively addresses advanced nanofiber manufacturing based on electrospinning technology. The principles, relationships between process parameters and structure, morphology and performance of electrospun nanofibers and nanomaterials, and the methods for enhanced field intensity and uniform distribution are discussed. The electric field intensity and distribution during electrospinning is also analyzed based on finite element analysis on both the needle and the needleless electrospinning. Furthermore, the modification techniques for improved nanomaterials strength are covered, aiming to provide effective avenues towards the manufacture of stronger nanofiber or nanomaterial products.

Download or read book The Construction of Cognitive Maps written by Juval Portugali and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-08-23 with total page 365 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: and processes which are exclusive to humans in their encoding, storing, decoding and retrieving spatial knowledge for various tasks. The authors present and discuss connectionist models of cognitive maps which are based on local representation, versus models which are based on distributed representation, as well as connectionist models concerning language and spatial relations. As is well known, Gibson's (1979) ecological approach suggests a view on cognition which is diametrically different from the classical main stream view: perception (and thus cognition) is direct, immediate and needs no internal information processing, and is thus essentially an external process of interaction between an organism and its external environment. The chapter by Harry Heft introduces J. J. Gibson's ecological approach and its implication to the construction of cognitive maps in general and to the issue of wayfinding in particular. According to Heft, main stream cognitive sciences are essentially Cartesian in nature and have not as yet internalized the implications of Darwin's theory of evolution. Gibson, in his ecological approach, has tried to do exactly this. The author introduces the basic terminology of the ecological approach and relates its various notions, in particular optic flow, nested hierarchy and affordances, to navigation and the way routes and places in the environment are learned.

Download or read book Occupied City written by David Peace and published by Knopf. This book was released on 2010 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A fierce, exquisitely dark novel that plunges us into post–World War II Occupied Japan in aRashomon-like retelling of a mass poisoning (based on an actual event), its aftermath, and the hidden wartime atrocities that led to the crime. On January 26, 1948, a man identifying himself as a public health official arrives at a bank in Tokyo. There has been an outbreak of dysentery in the neighborhood, he explains, and he has been assigned by Occupation authorities to treat everyone who might have been exposed to the disease. Soon after drinking the medicine he administers, twelve employees are dead, four are unconscious, and the “official” has fled . . . Twelve voices tell the story of the murder from different perspectives. One of the victims speaks, for all the victims, from the grave. We read the increasingly mad notes of one of the case detectives, the desperate letters of an American occupier, the testimony of a traumatized survivor. We meet a journalist, a gangster-turned-businessman, an “occult detective,” a Soviet soldier, a well-known painter. Each voice enlarges and deepens the portrait of a city and a people making their way out of a war-induced hell. Occupied Cityimmerses us in an extreme time and place with a brilliantly idiosyncratic, expressionistic, mesmerizing narrative. It is a stunningly audacious work of fiction from a singular writer. From the Hardcover edition.
