Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Sermons to Children Instead of imitating the venders of sugar-coated pills, by calling his little book by a more appetizing title than it can properly claim, the writer has pre ferred to send it forth in its true character as Ser mons to Children. Several years ago he began to deliver familiar dis courses to the younger portion of his flock, setting apart the first Sunday night in each month for the purpose. The full evening service is always used, with simple chants, m which-the children are taught to join. Learned theologians may laugh at the shal lowness of these sermons, and the fastidious be shocked at the lack of good taste in them, but the author is content to know that a large church is crowded whenever the Children's Sermons are preached, and that young and Old have derived profit from them. Download or read book Sermons for Children Classic Reprint written by Abel Hastings Ross and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2016-09-02 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Sermons for Children IT was in May, 1881, after long waiting, that I ventured to announce to my people a series of sermons for chil dren. I did not think the series would last many weeks, but it still continues, one every Sunday preceding the usual sermon, with a Short hymn between the two. Others had attempted it, but their success or failure did not bring the children in my parish out to the church ser vices so, in fear, I ventured to attempt the feeding of the lambs in my ock with food suited to them, and so to win them into the sanctuary. About the same time we began a roll-call every Sunday in the church school, embracing three things I. The number of scholars pres ent, excluding new scholars for any Sunday 2. The num ber of perfect lessons; and 3. The number at church services. AS the name-number of each class is called by the superintendent, the teacher reports for each of the above points, and the superintendent records the answers in a book prepared for the purpose. On these answers percentages are made of lessons and church attendance, and announced to the school. New scholars are not reported the first day they appear, as such report would unjustly reduce the percentages. It takes but a few minutes to make these reports, and it gives the actual attendance upon our church service for every Sunday in the year, and the per cent. Of those present in the Sunday-school, excluding the infant class, who have attended church. That per cent. Of church attendance. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Children's Bread: Short Sermons to Children His Coming, you can all go about on errands for Jesus. When you see a schoolmate In trouble, crying, perhaps, and miserable; and when, instead of laughing at him, you go and say a kind word to him, and make him forget his sorrow, then you are doing an errand for Jesus. When you went to see the sick child who lives in your street, and Offered to sit and read to her, you were going on an errand for Jesus. When you saw some cruel boys throwing stones at the frogs in the village pond, and when you stopped their cruel sport, you were doing an errand for Jesus, for He Himself says, In that ye have done it unto the least of these, ye have done it unto me. Every child, as well as every man and woman, has an errand to do for Jesus. And now I want you to think of something else. We have talked about the waiting-room at the railway station, let us think about the railway itself. You have all seen the trains running upon it, and most of you have travelled on it yourselves. Well, I like to get a sermon out of everything, and I believe this railway can give us a sermon. You know that the trains have a certain line of rails to run upon, and if they get off' the line all is confusion, and misery, and death. Now you and I have a line to travel on through life, that is, the line of did}, which is laid down for us by God Him self. If we get Off that line, if we neglect our duty, Or do what we know to be wrong, we are sum. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Some times they tag a moral to a tale. They are not sermons and must not be tested by the one, two, three method of the classroom or the pulpit. Simplicity has been aimed at but the great central doctrines of the Christian faith have not been neglected. Book The Children s Six Minutes Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Children s Six Minutes Classic Reprint written by Bruce S. Wright and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-10-08 with total page 118 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Children's Six Minutes For many years it has been my custom to give, every Sunday morning, a brief sermon to the boys and girls of my congregation. This sermon is never more than six minutes, often only three. As a result there has been a growing attendance of young people at our morning worship. They are thus made to feel that they are wanted, and have a part in the Church which all too often is looked upon as a Church solely for the grownups. No part of my ministry has given me greater delight and satisfaction than the thought that I am helping to establish in the lives of many boys and girls that habit so indispensable to a steady Christian experience, namely - the habit of Sunday morning worship. The Memory Texts and Memory Hymns, from the Methodist Episcopal Hymnal, sug gested with each sermon are given for the reason that girls and boys gladly do memory work if it is definitely assigned them. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Expositor's Treasury of Children's Sermons I cannot say exactly what 'creating' is. It is something like that God is such a great God. There was a very wise man, who lived many, many hundreds of years ago. His name was Simonides. People came to him, because he was one of the wisest men that ever lived and they said to him, What is God, Simonides P He said, ' Give me a day to think about it. They came to him the next day, and said, 'what is God, Simonides P' He said, 'give me a week to think about it'. After a week had passed, they came to him again, and said, What is God, Simonides P He said, 'give me a month to think about it They came again to him at the end of a month, and they said, What is God, Simonides?' He said, 'give me a year to think about it'. At the end of a year, they came to him, and said, What is God, Simonides P And he said, I am no nearer than when I first began to think about it. I cannot tell what God is.' About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Soul of a Child: Five-Minute Sermons to Children The Indians of this country have a very pretty legend about the leaves and the birds. They say that long, long ago when the Great Spirit was busy making the earth beautiful, that everywhere he stepped there the trees and the plants and the flowers began to grow at once. The leaves Of the trees were very happy and sang songs all the day. But one morning the wind came along and told the leaves that very soon they would fall from the trees to the ground and would wither and die and be forgotten. This made the leaves very sad and they forgot for a little to sing. But by and by, when they thought how happy it. Made the old tree to hear them, they began to sing again and forgot all about what the wind had said. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Sermons for Children s Masses

Download or read book Sermons for Children s Masses written by Raphael Frassinetti and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-12-19 with total page 390 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Sermons for Children's Masses: According to the Sundays and Principal Festivals of the Year, With Advice to the Young on the Last Day of the Scholastic Year, and After a Retreat Let us h0pe that this book may be theabeginning of a series of useful books of the same character. Religious training depends much, if not in certain circumstances altogether, on the priest, who is obliged to look for the most effective means of teaching religion, the gospels, and morality. In our time we are seeking for new books of improved methods for our secular schools, and priests will find this book of ser mons to children one step toward that end. In these sermons is presented in the most simple manner the life of Our Lord as it is met with in the gospels for the Sundays. His grand examples of virtue, His heavenly teachings, His striking miracles teach religious truth in a most impressive manner. And in this way, as these young people grow up they will not only have heard the gospels and know them, but may also be furnished with a groundwork for their faith, which will last them to the end of their days and be the source of many graces to them during life, with, perhaps, the grace of final perseverance. Thus brought up according to the principles of the life of Christ, we priests engaged in this grand work may understand that we are working for this glorious end, that the life of Jesus Christ be made manifest in their bodies (2 Cor. Iv. What a consolation will it be for the good pastor, to be convinced that, having done his very best, he will gain a crown of great glory for himself and have the consolation of seeing a great number of his spiritual children growing up an honor to the Church in the future. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Peace of God's Children: A Sermon Preached in Hagley Church, by the Rector, on Occasion of Two Deaths These words are very applicable, as I hope to shew, to thoughts that must be occupying many of our hearts just now, with reference to some souls lately taken from us. But first let us look into their original meaning as they occur in the book of Job. They are not the words of Job himself, but of Eliphaz the Temanite one of those friends of his, of whom the voice of God, at the end of the book, says that they did not speak truth about God. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Children's Missionary Story-Sermons It was Victor Hugo who said that the Eighteenth Century distinguished itself by the discovery of Man, but the glory of the Nineteenth Century was the discovery of Woman. Were he among us to-day he would complete his interpretation of history by saying that the Twentieth Century belongs to the Child. This is the Children's Century. Anything, therefore, that will help the children find their place in the coming work of the world is worth while, and what work can compare with that of winning the world for Christ? It was to interest children, first in the wonderful lives of the missionaries themselves, and then in their great work - the greatest work in the world - that these Story-Sermons were written. They grew out of a felt need in my own church work. Leaders of Mission Bands and Lightbearer Circles and teachers of Sunday-school classes were at a loss to discover a method of approach to the missionary problem. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Digging Ditches: And Other Sermons to Boys and Girls Eleven years ago, when I was associated with the Woodhouse Moor Wesleyan Church, Leeds, the Sunday school workers requested that something should be done by the minister for the children in the Sunday morning service. In response to that request, I undertook a separate sermon for the children. This I have continued to the present time, with a growing sense of the necessity for something to be done, but not always sure what it was best to do. The sermons in this volume are some of the fruit of that work. They were Spoken not always to the younger children, and never to the older ones, with no pretence to literary style, but with a supreme consideration for the actual life of the boys and girls to whom they were addressed, than whom I have never found more attentive and responsive hearers.
