Book Church School Administration Classic Reprint

Download or read book Church School Administration Classic Reprint written by Edmund Morris Fergusson and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-09-17 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Church-School Administration Most of the chapters open historically. I have sought to show how our present modes of work have grown out of those current in the last generation, and in the times before. I hope thus to enable such of my fellow-workers as still follow the old ways to see the path over into the new and the reasons why the new ways are better. Perhaps, also, some of those whose approach to religious education has been mod em and academic may be strengthened in sympathy and respect for the conservative wing of our common host, through these glimpses at the progress of each specialty to its present stage of educational develop ment. If the church-school worker of to-day matches his predecessors in faithfulness and eagerness for the best, he will do well. The past three decades have witnessed the development of the Graded Lessons; have seen the Primary Department expand into a Children's Division, with its four departments - the Cradle Roll, Beginners', Primary, and Junior; and watched the Teen-Age Department changed to a Young People's Division, with its three departments - the Intermediate, the Older Boys' and Older Girls', and the Young Men's and Young Women's. The Organized Class movement has likewise grown into an Adult Division, with its four departments - Men's, Women's, Parent-Training and Extension. During this period there has also been developed a system of training leaders. The simple "Normal Manual" of twenty years ago has given way to and blazed the way for the present three-year Standard Teacher Training Course. Book The School of the Church

Download or read book The School of the Church written by James Marion Frost and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-09 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The School of the Church: Its Pre-Eminent Place and Purpose This book was written in recognition and under the impulse of the greatness and glory of Sunday school teaching. It holds in contemplation some of the mightiest things of the kingdom and counts this school pre-eminent in the educational system. Remarkable indeed has been the improvement in Sunday school method and organization, in equipment and management. But while the school has become powerful in organic life and outreach of efficiency, its mission remains unchanged, though the perspective is larger and its energies move with statelier and more commanding sweep. Its text-book, its purpose and aim, its glorious course of instruction in revealed truth and redemptive grace - these remain unchanged through the changing years. The open Bible and the uplift of the cross must hold with increasing emphasis the center of Sunday school life and effort, of efficiency and conquest. To that end in such measure as this volume may carry, the author makes his contribution for culture in the things of Christ - culture in his saving grace and service, in his doctrine and spirit, in the personal likeness of his character and for the triumph of his kingdom. Book The Church School Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Church School Classic Reprint written by Walter Scott Athearn and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-01 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Church School This volume is the outgrowth of a commission report on "The Correlation of the Educational Agencies of a Local Church" presented at the Cleveland meeting of the Religious Education Association. This report awakened widespread interest. As chairman of this commission the writer has received many requests for details of organization and nature and content of curriculum suited to the various periods of unfolding childhood. The introduction of courses in religious education into colleges, seminaries and city institutes has created a demand for textbooks which will open up the whole field and direct the students to the literature and material now accessible. This volume is not an attempt to assemble the popular practices in the church schools of our times. The author believes that nothing is practical which is not founded on the best educational theory. The great need of the church schools of our day is leadership capable of evaluating practice in terms of well-established theory. Progress in religious education must not be a matter of accident - the chance survival of that which works. Download or read book The City Institute for Religious Teachers Classic Reprint written by Walter Scott Athearn and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-07-05 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The City Institute for Religious Teachers The progress in religious education in the last few years has been highly encouraging. The subject has attained something of a status as a scientific study, and significant investigative and experimental work has been done. More than that, trained men and women in increasing numbers have been devoting themselves to the endeavor to work out in churches and Sunday schools the practical problems of organization and method. It would seem that the time has come to present to the large body of workers in the field of religious education some of the results of the studies and practice of those who have attained a measure of educational success. With this end in view the present series of books on "Principles and Methods of Religious Education" has been undertaken. It is intended that these books, while thoroughly scientific in character, shall be at the same time popular in presentation, so that they may be available to Sunday-school and church workers everywhere. The endeavor is definitely made to take into account the small school with meager equipment, as well as to hold before the larger schools the ideals of equipment and training. Book Schools Administration

Download or read book Schools Administration written by John T. Prince and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-01 with total page 434 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Schools Administration: Including the Organization and Supervision of Schools American conditions do not seem to favor an easy, simple and effective administration of schools. Among the adverse conditions existing in many places are: (1) an overpowering sentiment in favor of local self-government and a strong opposition to centralization of any kind; (2) a non-recognition by the people of the need of professional knowledge and skill in carrying on the schools; (3) a tendency to adopt political methods in the election of school officials as well as in matters of school control; (4) the comparatively short terms of administrative offices and the frequent changes of membership in them; (5) the large extent of sparsely inhabited regions and the consequent difficulties of school attendance and classification; and (6) the difference of financial ability in the various sections of a State and the variety of needs to be met. Such conditions as these are likely to foster mistakes of administration which can be avoided only by the greatest care and effort. Among the mistakes of school administration actually existing in this country may be mentioned first the tendency of over organization in which the attention of the workers is turned away from the product to the machinery which turns it out. Again there is the other extreme of a lack of organization by which the time and effort of school officials are wasted. But more frequently perhaps than all else is the loose organization by which the duties of school officials overlap one another, frequently resulting in confusion and friction of a serious kind. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Religious Education in the Church The world is not indifferent to religion; it is becoming more conscious of its spiritual needs. There is almost a religious devotion in the principal charge against the church, that it is not on to its job. This seems to mean not alone that it is inefficient, but that it does not perceive its task. That is the heart of the problem, the lack of a sufficiently clear, distinct, and definite function, one that will meet a need otherwise unmet, one that Will convince the minds, . Enlist the wills, and win the hearts of all men and women of spiritual perceptions. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book How to Conduct a Sunday School

Download or read book How to Conduct a Sunday School written by Marion Lawrance and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-12 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from How to Conduct a Sunday School: Or Twenty Eight Years a Superintendent This book is at once a history and a prophecy, - a history of splendid service and a prophecy of the better Sunday-school that is to be. To the greater school that's coming it will contribute much of practical value and inspiration. It should be read by every Sunday-school worker everywhere. Mr. Lawrance has the unique distinction of having had over thirty years' practical experience with the Sunday-school problem, at first hand, during an era of remarkable development in methods, literature, ideals and enrollment. A man's theories and ideals must be transmuted into concrete realities to be helpful. The world is asking of him, "Can he do it?" Let the school our brother has superintended for twenty-eight years make reply. Given, a growing field, in a typical American city, with average conditions of opportunity, average workers, a few strong leaders, genuine and common difficulties, together with some extraordinary difficulties peculiar to the field, a very modest and always inadequate equipment, secured by striking sacrifices, - given these, what progress and fruit will be secured by the Sunday-school?
