This book was released on 1974 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The practical application of various chromatographic methods to the analysis of residues obtained from the leaching of copper-nickel mattes is described. The procedure involves the separation of gold on a TBP-treated Porasil column, the separation of base metals by cation-exchange, the separation of tellurium from platinum-group metals, and the separation of the non-volatile platinum-group metals on one cellulose column.

This book was released on 1972 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The main objective of the work described in this report was the development of a fast and simple column-chromatographic procedure for the separation of macro (milligram) amounts of non-volatile noble metals. It was hoped that such a procedure could replace classical separation techniques, which are usually tedious and time-consuming. The proposed chromatographic procedure on cellulose columns for the separation of the non-volatile noble metals is relatively simple and rapid. Incorporation of the technique into the classical separation scheme for noble metals in matte-leach residues considerably reduces the time required for analysis. The coefficient of variation were 1,3, 0,5, 0,9, 2,8, and 3,2 per cent at the following respective concentrations: platinum 49,2 mg, palladium 54,2 mg, rhodium 10,1 mg, iridium 2,4 mg, and gold 9,4 mg. These coefficients represent an acceptable degree of precision.

This book was released on 1971 with total page 9 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: By this laboratory method, the noble metals are separated from one another as the solution containing them passes through a glass column of Porasil C that has adsorbed tri-n-butyl phosphate, different mineral acids being used as eluents. Rhodium and platinum are determined photometrically with tin (II) chloride solutions, and palladium and iridium are determined colorimetrically - palladium with thioglycollic acid, and iridium with leuco-crystal violet. The gold is determined by atomic-absorption spectrophotometry. The method is applicable to the noble metals present in cupellations prills, in hydrochloric acid solutions obtained from the dissolution of tin and nickel sulphide buttons, and in acid extracts of ores and concentrates. Osmium and ruthenium, if present, are volatilized, in the presence of an oxidizing agent, during the dissolution step with aqua regia, and are not determined by this method.

Download or read book The Analytical Chemistry of the Noble Metals written by F. E. Beamish and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 624 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Analytical Chemistry, Volume 24: The Analytical Chemistry of the Noble Metals describes the procedures for the separation, extraction, and analysis of noble metals. This book is composed of seven chapters, and begins with a survey on the influence of metallurgical factors on the susceptibility of platinum and gold metals to various corrosive agents. The succeeding chapter provides the methods of isolation of osmium and ruthenium from associated platinum metals and from base metals. A chapter examines the application of gravimetric methods for the separation of seven noble metals, including ruthenium, osmium, rhodium, iridium, palladium, platinum, and gold. Other chapters consider the procedures for volumetric, spectrophotometric, and spectrochemical analysis of noble metals. The concluding chapter describes the features and attributes of the equipment for noble metal analysis. This book is of value to analytical chemists and workers and researchers in metallurgy.
