Book New Horizons in Meiobenthos Research

Download or read book New Horizons in Meiobenthos Research written by Olav Giere and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-03-23 with total page 412 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since research on meiobenthos was last compiled in a textbook (2008/2009), the number of theoretical and applied studies has been growing rapidly. Supported by new methods and digital evaluation, meiobenthology has developed into a wide field, with more and more researchers studying cross-disciplinary aspects. New perspectives were summarized in a booklet (2019) to draw attention to promising research directions. The present book, written by leading experts, is a compilation of new thinking, data, methods and approaches in many relevant fields of recent meiobenthos research. The topics addressed range from bacteria and biofilms to globally changing processes, from polar regions to the deep-sea and from freshwater ecosystems to the ocean. So, this book is not simply another meiobenthos textbook - it is an attempt to identify new horizons in meiobenthos research, driven by the vision of advancing knowledge and understanding of benthic ecosystems.

Book Abscisic Acid Metabolism Transport and Signaling

Download or read book Abscisic Acid Metabolism Transport and Signaling written by Da-Peng Zhang and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-10-10 with total page 464 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a comprehensive review of all aspects of the molecular and cell biology of abscisic acid (ABA) metabolism, transport and signal transduction, covering our current understanding of ABA as well as research trends. The agricultural significance of ABA metabolism, transport and signal transduction is also discussed. The phytohormone ABA regulates many aspects of plant development and plays a central role in plant adaptation to environmental stresses. Over the past few decades, considerable advances have been made in the study of ABA metabolism, transport and signal transduction, greatly deepening our understanding of the underlying mechanisms of ABA function at the molecular, cell and whole-plant level and helping us improve crops’ environmental tolerance. This book provides a valuable resource for researchers and advanced students interested in plant biology and agriculture.

Combustion-specific topics of chemistry and fluid mechanics are considered and tools described for the simulation of combustion processes. This edition is completely restructured. Mathematical Formulae and derivations as well as the space-consuming reaction mechanisms have been replaced from the text to appendix. A new chapter discusses the impact of combustion processes on the atmosphere, the chapter on auto-ignition is extended to combustion in Otto- and Diesel-engines, and the chapters on heterogeneous combustion and on soot formation are heavily revised.

Book Culinary Turn

    Book Details:
  • Author : Nicolaj van der Meulen
  • Publisher : transcript Verlag
  • Release : 2017-04-30
  • ISBN : 3839430313
  • Pages : 327 pages

Download or read book Culinary Turn written by Nicolaj van der Meulen and published by transcript Verlag. This book was released on 2017-04-30 with total page 327 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Kitchen, cooking, nutrition, and eating have become omnipresent cultural topics. They stand at the center of design, gastronomy, nutrition science, and agriculture. Artists have appropriated cooking as an aesthetic practice - in turn, cooks are adapting the staging practices that go with an artistic self-image. This development is accompanied by crisis of eating behaviour and a philosophy of cooking as a speculative cultural technique. This volume investigates the dimensions of a new culinary turn, combining for the very first time contributions from the theory and practice of cooking.

Book The History and Sedimentology of Ancient Reef Systems

Download or read book The History and Sedimentology of Ancient Reef Systems written by George D. Stanley Jr. and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 468 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the Preface: The chapters of this book contain contributions from an international group of specialists. They address some important themes in both modern and ancient reef systems. Some chapters contain `snapshots' of reefs of particular intervals, while others touch on relevant themes of both modern and ancient reefs - themes that weave their way through reefs of all ages. This book opens and sets the stage with an introduction to both modern and ancient reefs and reef ecosystems. This chapter is also intended as a basic introduction for students, general geologists, and professionals or others who may be unfamiliar with reefs and reef ecosystems. The chapter addresses the living coral reef ecosystem, stressing among other relevant factors, the importance of ecological and physical interactions between the organisms and their environment. The chapter also addresses mass extinction and provides a general overview of the history of reefs.

Book Combinatorial Library

    Book Details:
  • Author : Lisa B. English
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2008-02-04
  • ISBN : 1592592856
  • Pages : 380 pages

Download or read book Combinatorial Library written by Lisa B. English and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-02-04 with total page 380 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The continued successes of large- and small-scale genome sequencing projects are increasing the number of genomic targets available for drug d- covery at an exponential rate. In addition, a better understanding of molecular mechanisms—such as apoptosis, signal transduction, telomere control of ch- mosomes, cytoskeletal development, modulation of stress-related proteins, and cell surface display of antigens by the major histocompatibility complex m- ecules—has improved the probability of identifying the most promising genomic targets to counteract disease. As a result, developing and optimizing lead candidates for these targets and rapidly moving them into clinical trials is now a critical juncture in pharmaceutical research. Recent advances in com- natorial library synthesis, purification, and analysis techniques are not only increasing the numbers of compounds that can be tested against each specific genomic target, but are also speeding and improving the overall processes of lead discovery and optimization. There are two main approaches to combinatorial library production: p- allel chemical synthesis and split-and-mix chemical synthesis. These approaches can utilize solid- or solution-based synthetic methods, alone or in combination, although the majority of combinatorial library synthesis is still done on solid support. In a parallel synthesis, all the products are assembled separately in their own reaction vessels or microtiter plates. The array of rows and columns enables researchers to organize the building blocks to be c- bined, and provides an easy way to identify compounds in a particular well.
