Book excerpt: Hundreds of millions of Christians around the world lack the basic knowledge of the Bible's teachings. This book has been penned for that very purpose, to help all Christians to increase and expand their understanding of God's Word and to apply it more fully in their lives. In the Bible, you can interact with a living God, who wants a personal relationship with you. And in Applying God's Word More Fully In Your Life you will learn how to engage His words like never before. You will learn to observe, understand, and apply the Bible to transform your life. Stacey Roberts , "I am so grateful to have had a chance to preview this book before it was published, because it has truly helped me to appreciate the Bible far more than ever before in my life. I have never seen so many Scriptures used in any Christian publication. The beauty is that they are quoted right there in the book. Truly, this book will be helpful to all who want to discern the intentions of their heart. It will move everyone to an active faith and help them to see the significance of their relationship with God in their words, in their actions, where they fall short, and especially in their heart attitude. In a word, this is the best book on Christian life that I have ever read, and the information is already helping me to progress toward being a better Christian. Words fail me in my effort to tell you how much I appreciate having had a chance to preview this book!"--Review from a reader Brenda Kinsey, "This book has taught me so much, which has given me guidance that is really encouraging. It has categorically given me a longing for more spiritual knowledge."--Review from a reader Richard Martin, "Applying God's Word More Fully In Your Life has proven to be something special. What a magnificent help in developing our Christian maturity! The way in which it is written offers us to use our minds truly in harmony with the Bible. This is exactly what has been missing."--Review from a reader

Download or read book FOR AS I THINK IN MY HEART SO I AM written by Edward D. Andrews and published by Christian Publishing House. This book was released on 2013-08-17 with total page 501 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In For As I Think in My Heart--So I Am: Combining Biblical Counseling with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy , Edward D. Andrews offers practical and biblical insights on a host of issues, from the challenge of forgiveness to eating disorders, anger, alcoholism, depression, anxiety, and many others. Based on Proverbs 23:7 (NKJV): "For as he thinks in his heart, so is he," Andrews' text works from the position that if we can change the way that we think, we can change the way that we behave. For As I Think in My Heart enables readers to examine the lies and half-truths they tell themselves repeatedly; lies, which as one argues, contribute to mental distress and a wide range of issues in their lives. In this text, Andrews seeks to wash those lies with biblical truth by combining biblical counseling with cognitive behavioral therapy "in an effort to better understand our human condition" and give readers tools to face these challenges.

Download or read book PUT OFF THE OLD PERSON WITH ITS PRACTICES written by Edward D. Andrews and published by Christian Publishing House. This book was released on 2014-09-21 with total page 267 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Some Bible writers (e.g., Apostle Paul) revealed to their readers that there is an ongoing conflict between the Christian, with one side being the fallen, sinful flesh. In this revelation, the Bible writers use such expressions as "the inner man," "our inner man," and comparable expressions. At Romans 2:14-15, Paul speaks of us saying, "The law is written on their hearts." Because man and woman were made in the image and likeness of God, they were given a moral nature that was in harmony with God. This moral nature produces a mental power or ability such as reason and conscience. Even though, we are imperfect, we retain a measure of this moral nature that is in harmony with God's moral standards. This moral nature operates in "the inner man," as a law, a moral law. However, because of our fallen condition, there is also 'the law of sin, which is in our members.' This 'law in our members of our body, wages a war against the law of our mind and can make us a prisoner of the law of sin.'―Romans 6:12; 7:22, 23 Nevertheless, not all is lost, because Paul also tells us that we can 'be renewed in the spirit of our minds.' (Eph. 4:23) We can 'put off the old person with its practices and have put on the new person. We will then be renewed in knowledge according to the image of our Creator.' We will be transformed by the renewing of our mind, so that we may discern what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God.'―Colossians 3:9-10; Romans 12:2 We are 'baptized into Christ Jesus we are baptized into his death. Our old self is crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin. Nevertheless, while we are in an imperfect condition, the law of God is in our inner being, but in our members, is another law waging war against the law of my mind and making us captive to the law of sin that dwells in our members. While we serve the law of God with our mind, with our flesh we serve the law of sin.' (Rom. 6:3-7; 7:21-25) The premise of this book is quite simple, how do we take off the old person and put on new person? In addition, what must we do, to keep on sustaining that new person?

Download or read book God Can t written by Thomas Jay Oord and published by SacraSage Press. This book was released on 2019-01-05 with total page 139 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hurting people ask heart-felt questions about God and suffering. Some "answers" they receive appeal to mystery: “God’s ways are not our ways”. Some answers say God allows evil for a greater purpose. Some say evil is God's punishment. The usual answers fail. They don't support the truth that God loves everyone all the time. God Can't gives a believable answer to why a good and powerful God doesn't prevent evil. Author Thomas Jay Oord says God’s love is inherently uncontrolling. God loves everyone and everything, so God can't control anyone or anything. This means God cannot prevent evil singlehandedly. God can’t stop evildoers, whether human, animal, organism, or inanimate objects and forces. In God Can't, Oord gives a plausible reason why some are healed, but many others are not. God always works to heal everyone, but sometimes our bodies, organisms, or other creatures do not cooperate with God's healing work. Or the conditions of creation are not right for the healing God wants to do. Some people think God causes or allows suffering to teach us lessons or build our character. God Can't disagrees. Oord says God squeezes good from the evil God didn’t want in the first place. God uses pain and suffering without willing or even allowing it. Most people think God can overcome evil singlehandedly. In God Can't, Oord says God needs cooperation for love to reign now and later. This leads to a better view of the afterlife called “relentless love.” It rejects traditional ideas of heaven, hell, and annihilation. Relentless love holds to the possibility all creatures and all creation will respond to God’s love. God Can't is written in understandable language. As a world-renown theologian, Thomas Jay Oord brings credibility to the book’s radical ideas. He explains these ideas through true stories, illustrations, and scripture. God Can't is for those who want answers to tragedy, abuse, and other evils that make sense! What They're Saying... “If conventional notions of God make less and less sense to you, you’ll find Thomas Jay Oord’s new book a breath of fresh air. Simply put, “God Can’t” presents an understanding of God that thoughtful, ethical people can believe in.” -- Brian D. McLaren, author of The Great Spiritual Migration "I did not want this book to end. I wish Dr. Oord had written it 100 years ago, or 1000 years ago... To find your understanding of life and your love for God renewed, read this book." -- Dr. Karen Strand Winslow, Ph.D., Biblical and Jewish Studies Professor of Bible, Azusa Pacific University "As a clinical psychologist working with people in trauma, I owe Thomas Jay Oord an enormous debt of gratitude for recasting the so-called problem of evil in terms that are conceptually satisfying, theologically consistent, and pastorally liberating.” -- Dr Roger Bretherton- Principal Lecturer at the University of Lincoln (UK), Chair of the British Association of Christians in Psychology “Victims of trauma sometimes hear theological responses that imply their suffering is somehow “God’s will." A more careful theological reflection on the nature of the power of a God who is love can help. Oord gives us a clear and compelling alternative in this profoundly insightful and admirably concrete and accessible book.” -- Dr. Anna Case-Winters, Professor of Theology at McCormick Theological Seminary “I know of no book that speaks to suffering with the depth of theological sophistication and psychological sensitivity as God Can’t. This book is a rare combination of depth and accessibility, truly written for the wounded. I recommend it to my students, parishioners, and therapy clients.” -- Dr. Brad D. Strawn, Professor of the Integration of Psychology and Theology, Fuller Theological Seminary

Download or read book Falling in Love with God written by Bob Hostetler and published by . This book was released on 2014-06-30 with total page 139 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Every human heart longs to love and be loved. And every heart is unfulfilled until it falls in love with God. Why does anyone want to "fall in love?" With anyone? Perhaps it is because we instinctively recognize that love is the most pleasurable of all human sensations. Love makes us feel good. It satisfies our deepest needs. And if falling in love with another human being can do all of those things . . . how much more powerful could it be to fall in love with God? FALLING IN LOVE WITH GOD answers that question. Drawing from the ancient love story of Hosea, a prophet whose life and prophecy map how to fall in love with God, this book will fulfill the desires of all who long for a different--or deeper--relationship with God. This thoroughly biblical book will help and bless readers who long to love God with all their hearts . . . but just aren't sure why they don't, if they could, or how it happens.

Download or read book Morning and Evening Meditations from the Word of God written by Michael J. Akers and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2014-03-18 with total page 768 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are many devotional books available containing brief, daily inspirations that benefit all who read them. This book is different in two respects. The first is obvious: it contains two readings per day—732 in all. The second, more important difference is that the author wanted to do more than offer inspiration; this would make this book no different than so many others. The messages in the book are study sketches in that the content is not only inspirational, but also educational, challenging, and encouraging. Most of these writings were based on author Michael J. Akers’s teaching of adult Bible studies for more than thirty years and learning what really brought adults to want to deepen their knowledge and application of the Word of God.
