Book Christian Missions in the Telugu Country Classic Reprint

Download or read book Christian Missions in the Telugu Country Classic Reprint written by G. Hibbert-Ware and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2016-09-15 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Christian Missions in the Telugu Country Missions which the s.p.g. Has recently published. Its object is to give a general account of all Christian Missions in the Telugu country and to give in greater detail a sketch of the particular work which the s.p.g. Helps to support. The Society is greatly indebted to Mr. Hibbert-ware for the writing of this book, which we trust may be the means of extending interest in a part of India where Christian missionary work is spreading more rapidly than in almost any other part. Mr. Hibbert-ware, who went out to India as a missionary in 1898, is a Fellow of the Punjab University and was for some time Principal of S. Stephen's Univer sity College, Delhi. He is now working at Kalasabad in the Telugu country. We desire also to acknowledge the large amount of help received from the Rev. Canon Inman, who provided most of the material for the two chapters dealing with the history of the Mission; and to the Rev. A. F. R. Bird, who collected much of the information contained in the book. We are also greatly indebted to the Rev. H. G. Downes and the Rev. A. W. B. Higgens for reading and correcting the proofs after Mr. Hibbert-ware's return to India. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book excerpt: This book presents the only critical study of the public life and legacy of V. S. Azariah (1874-1945), the first Indian bishop of an Anglican diocese and the most successful leader of rural conversion movements to Christianity in modern India. Harper carefully explores Bishop Azariah's work, including his attempts to redress racism and improve social conditions in India, and documents -- for the first time anywhere -- the previously unknown controversy between Bishop Azariah and the great Mahatma Gandhi.

Book A History of Christianity in India

Download or read book A History of Christianity in India written by Stephen Neill and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1984-02-09 with total page 6 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Christians form the third largest religious community in India. How has this come about? There are many studies of separate groups: but there has so far been no major history of the three large groups - Roman Catholic, Protestant and Thomas Christians (Syrians). This work attempts to meet the need for such a history. It goes right back to the beginning and traces the story through the ups and downs of at least fifteen centuries. It includes careful studies of the political and social background and of the non-Christian reactions to the Christian message. The narration is non-technical and should present few difficulties to the thoughtful reader; the more technical matters are dealt with in notes and appendices. This book will be of interest to all students of Church History and will also prove fascinating to many who are concerned with the development of Christianity as a world religion and in the dialogue between different forms of faith.

Book The Joy of the Gospel

Download or read book The Joy of the Gospel written by Pope Francis and published by Image. This book was released on 2014-10-07 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The perfect gift! A specially priced, beautifully designed hardcover edition of The Joy of the Gospel with a foreword by Robert Barron and an afterword by James Martin, SJ. “The joy of the gospel fills the hearts and lives of all who encounter Jesus… In this Exhortation I wish to encourage the Christian faithful to embark upon a new chapter of evangelization marked by this joy, while pointing out new paths for the Church’s journey in years to come.” – Pope Francis This special edition of Pope Francis's popular message of hope explores themes that are important for believers in the 21st century. Examining the many obstacles to faith and what can be done to overcome those hurdles, he emphasizes the importance of service to God and all his creation. Advocating for “the homeless, the addicted, refugees, indigenous peoples, the elderly who are increasingly isolated and abandoned,” the Holy Father shows us how to respond to poverty and current economic challenges that affect us locally and globally. Ultimately, Pope Francis demonstrates how to develop a more personal relationship with Jesus Christ, “to recognize the traces of God’s Spirit in events great and small.” Profound in its insight, yet warm and accessible in its tone, The Joy of the Gospel is a call to action to live a life motivated by divine love and, in turn, to experience heaven on earth. Includes a foreword by Robert Barron, author of Catholicism: A Journey to the Heart of the Faith and James Martin, SJ, author of Jesus: A Pilgrimage
