Book Living by Faith Not by Feelings

Download or read book Living by Faith Not by Feelings written by Dale Funderburg and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2022-01-15 with total page 123 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Living by Faith, Not by Feelings is an account of what seemed to be an insurmountable circumstance. The lighthearted approach reveals an outlook that communicates God's grace with a southern and country charm as well as a humorous outlook on life, no matter how dire the circumstances. Living by Faith, Not by Feelings began as a labor of love to honor the author's church family of First Baptist Church in West Point, Mississippi. This church family faithfully prayed and supported the Funderburgs through an almost unbelievable timeline of medical drama, emotional trauma, and personal sorrow as told in each chapter as "My Story." Since developed into this thirty-one-day devotional, including "Our Story," the work has been organized to testify to God's sufficient grace to enable the reader to apply biblical principles into their own daily lives. Pain in life is complicated. This author attempts to describe how faith can govern our feelings by confidence in the sovereignty of God. Living by Faith, Not by Feelings is also a tribute that attempts to honor and remind our heroes who work in the medical field of the importance of their role to not only address the physical body but also to comfort the fearful soul.

Download or read book Life as a Vapor written by John Piper and published by Multnomah. This book was released on 2009-01-16 with total page 183 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 31 meditations from the founder of Desiring God that will connect you to a fresh understanding of God and renew your faith. "You do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away" (James 4:14). Living knowing that your life is a vapor is different than just living. Things here are passing away. You’ve got to hold on to what will stand. Savor what matters. This collection of thirty-one articles is full of that heart-longing after Christ that distinguishes Piper’s preaching ministry. You will feel as though you have stumbled into a garden as you enter these pages. The Scripture cuts, Christ is exalted in God, and we worship Him. Life Is Short. Eternity Is Long. Live Like It. You will exist forever. You and God are both in the universe to stay—either as friends on His terms, or enemies on yours—which it will be is proven in this life. And this life is a vapor. Two seconds, and we will be gone. In these thirty-one meditations, John Piper will connect you to a fresh understanding of God and a renewed relationship with Him. You’ll find your faith stirred to make every day count for Christ when you consider life as a vapor. Story Behind the Book Time is precious. We are fragile. Life is short. Eternity is long. Every minute counts. Oh, to be a faithful steward of the breath God has given me. Three texts resound in my ears: “Redeem the time” (Ephesians 5:16 ); “It is required of stewards that one be found trustworthy” (1 Corinthians 4:2); “His grace toward me was not in vain; but I labored even more than all of them, yet not I, but the grace of God with me” (1 Corinthians 15:10 ). Surely God means for our minutes on earth to count for something significant. Paul said, “In the day of Christ I will have reason to glory because I did not run in vain nor toil in vain” (Philippians 2:16). In the same way, I have good hope from the Lord that my “labor is not in vain in the Lord” (1 Corinthians 15:58 ).

Book Reliving the Passion

    Book Details:
  • Author : Walter Wangerin Jr.
  • Publisher : Zondervan
  • Release : 2010-06-01
  • ISBN : 0310873665
  • Pages : 164 pages

Download or read book Reliving the Passion written by Walter Wangerin Jr. and published by Zondervan. This book was released on 2010-06-01 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: No story has more significance than this: the death and resurrection of Jesus. But somehow the oft-repeated tale of Christ’s passion can become too familiar, too formalized, for us to experience its incredible immediacy. The meditations in Reliving the Passion, which received a Gold Medallion Award in 1993, follow the story as given in the gospel of Mark—from the moment when the chief priests plot to kill Jesus to the Resurrection. But these readings are more than a recounting of events; they are an imaginary reenactment, leading the reader to re-experience the Passion or perhaps see it fully for the very first time. As only a great storyteller can, Walter Wangerin enables the reader to see the story from the inside, to discover the strangeness and wonder of the events as they unfold. It’s like being there. In vivid images and richly personal detail, Wangerin helps us recognize our own faces on the streets of Jerusalem; breathe the dark and heavy air of Golgotha; and experience, as Mary and Peter did, the bewilderment, the challenge, and the ultimate revelation of knowing the man called Jesus. “The story gets personal for every reader,” writes Wangerin, “for this is indeed our story, the story whereby we personally have been saved from such a death as Jesus died. “No, there is not another tale in the world more meaningful than this—here is where we all take our stands against sin and death and Satan, upon this historical, historic event. I consider it a holy privilege to participate in it retelling. “Read this book slowly. Read it with a seeing faith. Walk the way with Jesus. We, his followers of later centuries, do follow even now. Read, walk, come, sigh, live. Live! Rise again!”

Download or read book Meditations on the Passion written by Sussana Tamaro and published by Scepter Publishers. This book was released on 2017-01-01 with total page 65 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The type of faith transmitted by Susanna Tamaro, as she contemplates the fourteen stations of the cross, is not one that has risen beyond the lost path of the world. Instead, at the depth of Tamaro's insight and contemplation, is love for Love, and a desire to follow the small path that leads directly to Christ. As she helps to revive the great drama of human history- death on a cross by the God Who is Life- she proposes to readers a lifestyle that removes all obstacles of the world through empowered faith.

Download or read book Meditations on the Passion written by Reginald Wlash and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2014-09-21 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Among the many subjects proposed by the Church to us for mental prayer, there is none more profitable than the sublime mystery of Calvary. For even where everything is supremely holy-namely, in the actions of Him Who is the way, and the truth, and the life-the Passion is the culmination of sanctity, the highest exercise of virtue, the greatest cause of merit. Hence devout meditation on it produces most abundant fruit in souls, And for this reason, Saints and Doctors of the Church-those who are specially enlightened, those who spoke from experience, those who are our best guides in the spiritual life-with one accord praise and glorify it. For instance, St. Jerome says: " In the Passion all the other mysteries are contained." St. Augustine speaks as follows: "There is nothing more advantageous, nothing better adapted to ensure our eternal salvation, than daily to contemplate the sufferings which Jesus Christ bore for our sake." And St. Leo the Great expresses himself thus: "The cross of Christ is the source of every blessing, the fountain of all merit: to the faithful it gives strength from His weakness, glory from His shame, and life from His death." If at the present day countless human beings live as thoughtlessly and carelessly as if their souls had not been redeemed, as if they had not been bought at a great price, surely it becomes our duty to make reparation for their indifference and ingratitude. In proportion to the world's forgetfulness should be our remembrance. This solemn obligation rests on us all as Catholics. We must not be heedless, we who are familiar with the words: " In the cross is salvation; in the cross is life; in the cross is protection from thy enemies. In the cross is the infusion of heavenly sweetness; in the cross is strength of mind; in the cross is joy of spirit." It is hoped that they who love to contemplate and consider what the Word Incarnate suffered for their salvation will find this work useful. Here, in passing, we may say that the Meditation now presented to all was in its first shape designed and destined for private circulation only. A Member of the Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary, who, as Mistress of Novices for about thirty years, had gained great experience in the formation of religious as well as in the varied requirements of conventual life, proposed by means of this book to impart to her Sisters the fruit of her own reflections on the Passion, which one so spiritual and enlightened was exceptionally fitted to compile. As might have been anticipated, the excellence of the work, which she had intended for the use of her Sisters, in course of time became known to several persons, in one or other way connected with the Institute of the Blessed Virgin. And among them, some are of opinion that this treasure should no longer be allowed to remain almost hidden in the cloister. They have represented that outside the convents of the Institute there are many devout souls to whom the Meditation would be most acceptable. In accordance with their suggestion, and in compliance with their wish, it is now reprinted. But in order to increase its utility, so far as persons living in the world are concerned, many passages in the work, as it appeared at first, have been omitted-those, namely, which were addressed to nuns as such, also some other incidental clauses have been either omitted or else slightly changed. This remark will suffice to explain the difference which, as any person who compares them cannot fail to observe, exists here and there between the original and the revised edition. That the book may continue to be a help to advancement in the spiritual life, and become an abundant source of blessings to a still wider circle of readers, is the earnest desire of those who have had to do with its reissue.

Book Dialogue Of Comfort Against Tribulation

Download or read book Dialogue Of Comfort Against Tribulation written by Saint Thomas More and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2024-01-02 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written by the English statesman, jurist, and scholar Saint Thomas More in the 16th century, "Dialogue of Comfort Against Tribulation" is a classic piece of Christian literature. The book, which was finished in 1534 when More was imprisoned in the Tower of London, is told as a fictional conversation between two characters, Vincent and his uncle Anthony. The conversation takes place during a turbulent time of political and religious unrest. Vincent turns to his uncle Anthony for support and direction since he is in danger of being persecuted for his faith. Anthony provides philosophical and spiritual insights on the nature of suffering, the transient nature of earthly problems, and the significance of facing adversity with faith and trust in God throughout the talk. More's strong religious beliefs are evident in the work, which tackles the issue of finding solace in difficult times by sticking to one's religion. More examines the moral and theological dimensions of suffering, highlighting Christian virtues such as hope, patience, and trust in divine providence. "Dialogue of Comfort Against Tribulation" is a literary work that demonstrates More's wit, intelligence, and humanistic perspective on life's hardships in addition to being a theological treatise.
