Book excerpt: Excerpt from Christ Going Forth to Purify the World: Sermon Preached Before the Foreign Evangelical Society, New York, May 7, 1848 And why is it not to be deemed the same wherever found? Certain it is, that many who have been met in this frame of mind by Evangelists and Colporteurs, have gladly and savingly received the Word of God. The truth must win its way, even among blind and deluded Romanists, when they perceive that it brings them just the rest for which their hearts have long been aching. The famish ing will eat if you give them bread. They will drink when you make the living waters to gush forth at their feet. Even ignorance and superstition, are rarely able tatterly to destroy the moral instincts of the soul. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book The Joy of the Gospel

Download or read book The Joy of the Gospel written by Pope Francis and published by Image. This book was released on 2014-10-07 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The perfect gift! A specially priced, beautifully designed hardcover edition of The Joy of the Gospel with a foreword by Robert Barron and an afterword by James Martin, SJ. “The joy of the gospel fills the hearts and lives of all who encounter Jesus… In this Exhortation I wish to encourage the Christian faithful to embark upon a new chapter of evangelization marked by this joy, while pointing out new paths for the Church’s journey in years to come.” – Pope Francis This special edition of Pope Francis's popular message of hope explores themes that are important for believers in the 21st century. Examining the many obstacles to faith and what can be done to overcome those hurdles, he emphasizes the importance of service to God and all his creation. Advocating for “the homeless, the addicted, refugees, indigenous peoples, the elderly who are increasingly isolated and abandoned,” the Holy Father shows us how to respond to poverty and current economic challenges that affect us locally and globally. Ultimately, Pope Francis demonstrates how to develop a more personal relationship with Jesus Christ, “to recognize the traces of God’s Spirit in events great and small.” Profound in its insight, yet warm and accessible in its tone, The Joy of the Gospel is a call to action to live a life motivated by divine love and, in turn, to experience heaven on earth. Includes a foreword by Robert Barron, author of Catholicism: A Journey to the Heart of the Faith and James Martin, SJ, author of Jesus: A Pilgrimage

Book What Did Jesus Really Say How Christianity Went Astray

Download or read book What Did Jesus Really Say How Christianity Went Astray written by Peter Cayce and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2004-12 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: No dogma please. And hold the mustard. For something to be called Christianity, it should be based on the teachings of Jesus Christ. Jesus never said he needed to die for our sins so we could be "saved." Only Paul and John make this claim. Christianity has therefore become a form of Paulism and Johnism that emphasize the Savior aspect of Jesus. But Paul had never met or heard Jesus teach, and John tells a story that's so different from the other disciples that we must seriously question him as a source. Did you also know there are two different biblical stories about how Judas dies? And Mary Magdalene wasn't a prostitute until the Pope made her one in the sixth century. Pope Urban II even made killing non-Christians acceptable in the eleventh century. Other subjects include ancient Buddhist records about Jesus traveling to India and studying Buddhism. Jesus may even have studied and practiced Kabbalah. Subsequently, What Did Jesus Really Say is an easy to read introduction that also reflects on God, Karma, Buddhism, Kabbalah, Reincarnation, Politics, and even Astrophysics.

In True Worshipers, a seasoned pastor and musician guides readers toward a more engaging, transformative, and biblically faithful understanding of the worship God is seeking. True worship is an activity rooted in the grace of the gospel that affects every area of our lives. And while worship is more than just singing, God’s people gathering in his presence to lift their voices in song is an activity that is biblically based, historically rooted, and potentially life-changing. Thoroughly based in Scripture and filled with practical guidance, this book connects Sunday worship to the rest of our lives—helping us live as true worshipers each and every day.

Book Purifying the Consciousness in Hebrews

Download or read book Purifying the Consciousness in Hebrews written by Joshua D. A. Bloor and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2023-02-23 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Joshua D. A. Bloor argues that the purification of the consciousness of sin, via Jesus' perpetual heavenly blood offering, is a vital motif for understanding Hebrews' sacrificial argumentation, and vice-versa. Jesus' 'objective' earthly achievements are many, yet only his 'subjective' heavenly blood offering purges the heavenly tabernacle and subsequently the consciousness of sin. Bloor views the Levitical cult as having a positive role in Hebrews, with Levitical 'guilt' foreshadowing and informing Hebrews' notion of the 'consciousness of sin'. Levitical sacrifices could purge the consciousness, but only Jesus' heavenly blood can offer complete perpetual purgation. This blood is a qualitative type of purgation which continually speaks in heaven, offering eternal assurance for the recipients regarding their consciousness of sin. Bloor begins with the 'defiled consciousness' and situates the world of Hebrews within cultic defilement, enabling the consciousness of sin and its cosmic implications to be properly understood. From here, the solution to a defiled consciousness is explored by examining Hebrews' cultic argumentation. Bloor highlights the distinctive purposes inherent in both Jesus' earthly and heavenly achievements, with the latter concerned particularly with Yom Kippur imagery and the purgation of the consciousness. Bloor concludes by differentiating between Jesus' session, present heavenly activity and perpetual heavenly blood offering. Throughout this volume, Bloor engages, critiques and advances current discourse concerning the nature and timing of Jesus' offering in Hebrews.

Book The Collected Works of Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel Illustrated

Download or read book The Collected Works of Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel Illustrated written by Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel and published by Strelbytskyy Multimedia Publishing. This book was released on 2021-04-14 with total page 6097 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The works of German thinker Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel represent the apex of German classical philosophy. It was Hegel who pounded out the dialectical methodology that shaped the doctrine of idealism into a fully formed and deeply thought-out philosophical system. For many philosophical contemporaries, the name Hegel is synonymous with the word philosopher. Friedrich Nietzsche once boldly stated that "Hegel is taste," and, speaking of Hegel, the thinker Vladimir Solovyov remarked: "of all the philosophers, only to Hegel did philosophy mean everything." The book includes the following of Hegel’s works: The Phenomenology of Spirit The Logic of Hegel Hegel’s Philosophy of Mind Elements of the Philosophy of Right The Philosophy of Fine Art The Philosophy of History Lectures on the History of Philosophy Lectures on the Proofs of the Existence of God
