Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hippolytus of Rome (170–235) was the most important 3rd-century theologian in the Christian Church in Rome, where he was probably born. Photios I of Constantinople describes him in his Bibliotheca (cod. 121) as a disciple of Irenaeus, who was said to be a disciple of Polycarp, and from the context of this passage it is supposed that he suggested that Hippolytus himself so styled himself. However, this assertion is doubtful. He came into conflict with the popes of his time and seems to have headed a schismatic group as a rival Bishop of Rome. For that reason he is sometimes considered the first antipope. He opposed the Roman bishops who softened the penitential system to accommodate the large number of new pagan converts. However, he was very probably reconciled to the Church when he died as a martyr. Starting in the 4th century, various legends arose about him, identifying him as a priest of the Novatianist schism or as a soldier converted by Saint Lawrence. He has also been confused with another martyr of the same name. Ironically, it is Pius IV who identifies him as "Saint Hippolytus, Bishop of Pontus" who was martyred in the reign of Alexander Severus through his inscription on a statue found at the Church of St. Lawrence in Rome and kept at the Vatican as photographed and published in Brunsen.

Book Not Afraid of the Antichrist

Download or read book Not Afraid of the Antichrist written by Michael L. Brown and published by Chosen Books. This book was released on 2019-03-19 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite the popular theology of our day, Christians should not expect to get out of experiencing the tribulation or the end times. Nowhere in the Bible does the Lord promise us this, say Michael Brown and Craig Keener, two leading, acclaimed Bible scholars. In fact, they say, Jesus promises us tribulation in this world. Yet this is no reason to fear. In this fascinating, accessible, and personal book, Brown and Keener walk you through what the Bible really says about the rapture, the tribulation, and the end times. What they find will leave you full of hope. God's wrath is not poured out on His people, and He will shield us from it--as he shielded Israel in Egypt during the ten plagues. So instead of taking comfort in what God hasn't promised, take comfort in the words of Jesus: He has overcome the world, and we live in his victory.

Book excerpt: We applaud men for doing good things. We enshrine God for doing great things. But what about a man who does God things? One thing is certain. We can't ignore him. If these moments are factual, if the claim of Christ is actual, then he was, at once, man and God. The single most significant person who ever lived. Forget MVP. He is the entire league. The head of the parade? Hardly. No one else shares the street. Who comes close? Humanity's best and brightest fade like dime-store rubies next to him. Dismiss him? We can't. Resist him? Equally difficult. Why would we want to? Don't we need a God-man Savior? A just-God Jesus could make us, but not understand us. A just-man Jesus could love us, but never save us. But a God-man Jesus? Near enough to touch. Strong enough to trust. A next door Savior.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We know what he thought about property, government, war, art, and so many other subjects. But what about his spiritual side? For example, what did Pierre-Joseph Proudhon (1809-65), the great forefather of anarchism, have to say about Jesus Christ? For Proudhon, Jesus was the original Anti-christ or an "Anti-Messiah", who denied the traditional idea of the Messiah: Jesus taught that the Messiah was not a god who came to die for your sins, or some revolutionary leader coming to free the people: rather, for Proudhon's Jesus, "Messiah" is an abstraction relating to moral and social progress; "Christ" equals social and personal improvement. No man will come to save the day: instead, we have to reform ourselves. This is the first English edition of this curious, posthumous book by Proudhon.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: God tells us in II Thessalonians chapter two that he is sending a "GREAT DELUSION, that they shall believe a lie." The delusion is concerning the Antichrist. Will YOU be among the deceived? Most people that have heard about the soon coming Antichrist have only heard what some preacher or writer thinks he will be like and it is all misinformation. Thus the vast majority of Christendom has a completely wrong picture of the Antichrist. The Bible clearly describes this coming world leader. No one should be deceived, but they will be and God will help with the deception by sending a delusion. Today the Muslims are feverishly working toward bringing back their Messiah. They are religiously trying to set the stage for the glorious end. It is no secret that all that is going on is for this reason. And Muslims are not alone. Jewish rabbis are calling their people home to Israel because they are excited that the Messiah's coming is eminent. Some internationally known Rabbis have personally had a supernatural visitation indicating that their Messiah is soon to come. And Christians all over the world are looking with great interest into end time events because they all know that the end is upon us. The stage has been set. The three major religions of the world are all posed for HIM. And when he comes it will not be Jesus, but the Antichrist posing as Christ and he will be so convincing that, (Matthew 24:24) "if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect." Few people really know from the Bible how to identify the Antichrist. The delusion is upon us. Don't be caught unaware. Know the truth. Know him for the impostor that he is. Read Who Is the Antichrist? and know the truth.

  • Pages : 202 pages

Download or read book The Antichrist written by A.W. Pink and published by DigiCat. This book was released on 2023-11-24 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Antichrist" is an in-depth study of the biblical texts on Antichrist, which aims to answer the question: Who or what is the Antichrist? To answer this question, Pink traces the references to Antichrist, including the Book of Psalms, the Gospels, the Epistles, and Revelation, and constructs the profile of Antichrist from the scriptures. He doesn't approach Antichrist only as a person but also as an ideology that leads to a certain chain of deeds and events. Yet, in the first chapters of the book, he rejects the idea that the Roman papacy is the embodiment of Antichrist, despite their persecution of Christians in the Middle Ages. In Chapters Three to Seven, he gives details on the possible Antichrist identity as he sees it, based on the scripture. Chapter Eight through Seventeen demonstrate how the theme of Antichrist is displayed through the Bible. Arthur Walkington Pink (1886–1952) is one of the most influential evangelical authors in the second half of the twentieth century. He was an English Bible teacher who sparked a renewed interest in the exposition of Calvinism or Reformed Theology.

Book The Man of Sin

  • Author : Kim Riddlebarger
  • Publisher : Baker Books
  • Release : 2006-06-01
  • ISBN : 1441202129

Download or read book The Man of Sin written by Kim Riddlebarger and published by Baker Books. This book was released on 2006-06-01 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The doctrine of the Antichrist is one of the most interesting doctrines found in Scripture, says author Kim Riddlebarger. Unfortunately, it's also one which has been subject to far more speculation than sound biblical exegesis. Until now. Unlike other resources available on the Antichrist, The Man of Sin focuses on Scripture, not contemporary events, to uncover the truth about this mysterious entity. With skilled exegesis Riddlebarger asserts that, contrary to popular speculation, the Antichrist is not a singular individual but a series of beings that will arise to challenge Christ throughout the inter-advental age before culminating in an end-times Antichrist. Backing this claim first in Scripture, Riddlebarger also draws from historical teachings including those of the church fathers, the Reformation, and historic Protestantism, before contrasting this evidence to the sensational interpretations of many contemporary writers. Pastors, teachers, and study groups wanting to understand the doctrine of the Antichrist will find The Man of Sin to be a unique and comprehensive study.

Book The Coming Worldwide Calvary

Download or read book The Coming Worldwide Calvary written by Desmond Ford and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2009 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The most important New Testament prophecy is also the most neglected and the least understood, despite our Lord's command to "know and understand it." See Matthew 24:15. "The abomination standing in the holy place" launches the tribulation such as never was, bringing a worldwide Calvary that threatens to annihilate the Christian church. This scenario is also discussed by Paul the Apostle in 2 Thessalonians 2 under the title of the "man of sin," the Antichrist who sits in the temple of God at present restrained by the mysterious "hinderer." This book is written for the layperson longing to know what the Bible actually teaches about the future and what will happen at the end of time. In it Dr. Ford describes Antichrist's nature and work and clarifies the gospel of Justification by Faith that Antichrist seeks to destroy.

But specific antichrist strongholds, she says, have infiltrated the thoughts and belief systems even of Christians, preventing them (like the twelve tribes of Israel) from entering their Promised Land.

Book Don t Give the Enemy a Seat at Your Table

Download or read book Don t Give the Enemy a Seat at Your Table written by Louie Giglio and published by Thomas Nelson. This book was released on 2021-05-11 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Louie Giglio helps you find encouragement, hope, and strength in the midst of any valley as you reject the enemy voices of fear, rage, lust, insecurity, anxiety, despair, temptation, or defeat. Scripture is clear: the Enemy is a liar who will stop at nothing to tempt you into poor decisions and self-defeating mindsets, making you feel afraid, angry, anxious, or defeated. It is all too easy for Satan to weasel his way into a seat at the table intended for only you and your King. But you can fight back. Don't Give the Enemy a Seat at Your Table outlines the ways to overcome those lies so you can find peace and security in any challenging circumstance or situation. With the same bold, exciting approach to Scripture as employed in Goliath Must Fall and his other previous works, pastor Louie Giglio examines Psalm 23 in fresh ways, highlighting verse 5: "You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies." You can find freedom from insecurity, temptation, and defeat--if you allow Jesus, the Shepherd, to lead the battle for your mind and heart. This spiritual warfare book for those who are leery of spiritual warfare books will resonate with Louie's core Passion tribe as well as with Christians of all ages who want to live a triumphant life in God.
