Book Christ Alone Exalted Volume 1

Download or read book Christ Alone Exalted Volume 1 written by Tobias Crisp and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2016-04-04 with total page 516 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A few months after Crisp died in 1643 were published a small collection of his Sermons, published under the title "Christ Alone Exalted," and over the next 3 years {1643-46} where published two additional volumes, with prefaces by Mr. Robert Lancaster, Mr. George Cockayn, and Mr. Henry Pinnell. These messages were all taken down in short-hand writing, during their delivery, and compared with Crisp's own sermon notes, or taken from them. In 1690, a new edition of these Sermons was printed, with an addition of ten more taken from the Author's notes, by his son Samuel Crisp; and again in 1755 by John Gill. This edition, is a fresh attempt to assemble together all the Sermons of Crisp in two volumes, {accompanied by the explanatory notes of John Gill, } along with every preface; and a new biographical sketch, which may shed a bit of further light on the life of one who was of that Spirit infused determination to preach nothing but Christ crucified.

Book Finding God in the Darkness

Download or read book Finding God in the Darkness written by Bradley Gray and published by New Reformation Publications. This book was released on 2023-07-18 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Suffering engulfs our lives in an unavoidable darkness, leaving answers and explanations obscured like a sorrowful fog. The gospel of Christ, however, gives us something infinitely more valuable than answers or explanations. Finding God in the Darkness: Hopeful Reflections from the Pits of Depression, Despair, and Disappointment is not an attempt to decode or decipher every nook and cranny of sorrow and suffering. It is a journey wherein faith, hope, and love are unexpectedly found along the way, in the midst of darkness. Much to our surprise, that' s where God shows up, too.

Book Calvinism Communion and the Baptists

Download or read book Calvinism Communion and the Baptists written by Peter Naylor and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2007-09-01 with total page 307 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is concerned with English Calvinistic Baptist churches from the later 1600s until the early 1800s, arguing that there was then no connection between restricted communion and hyper- or high Calvinism. A minimal definition of restricted communion would be the reception at the Baptist communion of those alone who had been immersed in water upon a profession of faith. A sketch of English Calvinistic Baptists in the years preceding and following the 1689 Act of Toleration stresses that they were a denomination other than that of the General Baptists, and that most Baptists, irrespective of party lines, were de facto Strict Baptists. Historical arguments for and against restricted communion will demonstrate that during that period there was no definitive link between the Particular Baptists' communion discipline and their interpretations of Calvinism. Attention is given to John Gill's and Andrew Fuller's interpretations of the relation between the atonement and evangelism.

Book Theoretical Practical Theology Volume 4 Redemption in Christ

Download or read book Theoretical Practical Theology Volume 4 Redemption in Christ written by Petrus Van Mastricht and published by Reformation Heritage Books. This book was released on 2023-06-01 with total page 1024 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Petrus van Mastricht’s Theoretical-Practical Theology presents one of the most comprehensive methods of treating Christian doctrine. In it, Mastricht treats every theological topic according to a four-part approach: exegetical, dogmatic, elenctic, and practical. As a body of divinity, it combines a rigorous, scholastic treatment of doctrine with the pastoral aim of preparing people to live for God through Christ. Students and pastors will find it a valuable model for moving from the text of Scripture to doctrinal formulation that will edify the people of God. Volume 4, Redemption in Christ, examines God’s great work of obtaining redemption in the Mediator, Jesus Christ. Mastricht sets the stage with a discussion about the covenant of grace as God’s eternal purpose of restoration and restitution for the elect of fallen humanity. From that vantage point, he uses the remainder of the volume to address the glorious procurer of this covenantal grace. Mastricht walks us through the dignity, names, person, offices, states, and redemptive accomplishment of Jesus Christ. This volume helps us learn the significance of the One who secured so great a redemption for the people of God.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Weakness of the Law aims to demonstrate that the five New Testament references to the weakness of the Law, read in their respective contexts, support those who advocate the third use of the Law in the debate with doctrinal antinomianism. The study falls into two parts: Part One sets the scene by means of a series of illustrations of the debate, in approximate chronological order, in which representatives of each of the two broad positions are set side by side. In Part Two the four books in which the five key texts appear are studied in their entirety as they relate to the subject of the Law.

Book Baptist Theology

    Book Details:
  • Author : James Leo Garrett
  • Publisher : Mercer University Press

  • ISBN : 9780881461299
  • Pages : 776 pages

Download or read book Baptist Theology written by James Leo Garrett and published by Mercer University Press. This book was released on 2009 with total page 776 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This title offers a comprehensive analysis of Baptist theology. Embracing in one common trajectory the major Baptist confessions of faith, the major Baptist theologians, and the principal Baptist theological movements and controversies, this book spans four centuries of Baptist doctrinal history. Acknowledging first the pre-1609 roots (patristic, medieval, and Reformational) of Baptist theology, it examines the Arminian versus Calvinist issues that were first expressed by the General Baptists and the Particular Baptists; that dominated English and American Baptist theology during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries from Helwys and Smyth and from Bunyan and Kiffin to Gill, Fuller, Backus, and Boyce; and, that were quickened by the 'awakenings' and the missionary movement. Concurrently there were the Baptist defense of the Baptist distinctives vis-a-vis the pedobaptist world and the unfolding of a strong Baptist confessional tradition. Then during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries the liberal versus evangelical issues became dominant with Hovey, Strong, Rauschenbusch, and Henry in the North and Mullins, Conner, Hobbs, and Criswell in the South even as a distinctive Baptist Landmarkism developed, the discipline of biblical theology was practiced and a structured ecumenism was pursued. Missiology both impacted Baptist theology and took it to all the continents, where it became increasingly indigenous. Conscious that Baptists belong to the free churches and to the believers' churches, a new generation of Baptist theologians at the advent of the twenty-first century appears somewhat more Calvinist than Arminian and decidedly more evangelical than liberal.
