Book Choix modal et syst me logistique en transport de marchandises

Download or read book Choix modal et syst me logistique en transport de marchandises written by Fei Jiang and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Transport Logistics

Download or read book Transport Logistics written by Alan C. McKinnon and published by Edward Elgar Publishing. This book was released on 2002 with total page 724 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Logistics is the management function responsible for the flow of materials through the supply chain. Freight transport typically accounts for a third of total logistics costs and is a major determinant of the quality of a distribution service. This comprehensive and integrated collection includes a wide range of previously published articles from logistics management, operations research and economics journals, as well as the mainstream transport literature. The volume is divided into 13 sections covering the full spectrum of research in the field, including the modelling of freight flows, just-in-time delivery, modal split, vehicle routing and utilisation, the environmental impact of freight transport operations, city logistics and telematics and the deregulation of freight markets. This authoritative volume will be an essential compendium for those teaching in and researching in the rapidly-expanding field of transport logistics and will be of interest to those involved in the management of logistics and formulation of public policy on freight transport.

Book Freight Transport and the Modern Economy

Download or read book Freight Transport and the Modern Economy written by Michel Savy and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-06-26 with total page 401 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Freight Transport and the Modern Economy adapts a well-known textbook by Michel Savy, revising, extending and updating it for British, European and international readers. It deals not only with the technical aspects of transport, logistics and supply chain management, but also the interactions between transport professionals and the public authorities in the modern social, political, economic and environmental context. The transport of freight is presented as a system, mixing empirics and theory, showing how transport itself functions and also its strong influence on the modern economy, with a growing volume of production, turnover and employment. The nature of freight transport, an industrial process widely marketed as a service, is analysed in depth, explaining the main characteristics of the transport operation, its market and the regulatory context. The main actors, the professional actors (carriers, shippers and other agents) and the public authorities are introduced, and their behaviour and interactions are clarified. This comprehensive approach allows the reader to go further and consider in particular the approaches and practices of transport by carriers, customers, logistics managers, political decision makers and citizens, to tackle long range issues such as the ‘decoupling’ of production and transport recommended by some institutions and experts, and to explore the need for more infrastructure, or the capacity of the freight transport industry to reduce its contribution to pollution and climate change. This book treats freight transport as a whole system in its technical, economic, social, political and environmental context, in contrast to existing transport literature focused on individual aspects, such as transportation planning (usually for cars or passengers), logistics (essentially management issues), or individual transport modes. This book is comprehensive in its treatment of freight transport and in its use of multiple disciplinary perspectives.

Book Sustainable Urban Logistics Concepts Methods and Information Systems

Download or read book Sustainable Urban Logistics Concepts Methods and Information Systems written by Jesus Gonzalez-Feliu and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-09-07 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the 1990’s, researchers, practitioners and public administrations have given more thought to urban logistics. However, their interests and goals are not the same, and several approaches do not produce efficient logistics systems as a result. This book aims to provide both a conceptual framework for urban logistics planning and management and to create a basis for deploying solutions that aim to reduce the main nuisances related to urban goods. The proposed book is divided in two parts. The first proposes a set of methodological chapters, written by key authors, which aim to support decision makers in their current choices related to urban logistics. In addition to public authorities’ aims and goals, the book highlights the importance of private actors, and shows how supply chain management can deal with the problems of the last urban mile and its integration in global logistics chains. The second presents several applied research works that deal with current planning and practice issues in urban logistics, such as the role of city planning, the place of night deliveries in carrier organization, the limits of logistics pooling, and the real estate market, among others. The book was written by key authors, all having considerable research experience and recognised as experts in their respective fields. Each chapter presents methods and results of research works, written for a broad audience, and more precisely directed to both academics and practitioners.
