Download or read book My Childhood s Days in Slavery written by Annie L. Burton and published by e-artnow. This book was released on 2020-12-17 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "My Childhood's Days in Slavery" is an autobiographical account of Annie L. Burton, African-American memoirist from Alabama. Burton was born into slavery on a plantation near Clayton, and was liberated in childhood by the Union Army. Her father was a white man from Liverpool, England, who owned a nearby plantation and died in Alabama, in 1875. Moving North in 1879, she was among the earliest Black emigrants there from the South during the post-Civil War era, supporting herself in Boston and New York by working as a laundress and as a cook. In her autobiography, published in 1909, Burton relates that the end of slavery not only signaled a time for African Americans to start a new life, but also a time to redefine their lives.

In this volume, Ray also shares some of his experiences while shooting Pather Panchali—his epic debut, and subsequent films, particularly for children. He describes how an entire field of kaash flowers was eaten up by cows before he could shoot his famous scene with the train in Pather Panchali; and how a circus tiger let loose in a bamboo grove chased away a group of curious onlookers in the blink of an eye.

Book excerpt: In 1950, Kathleen O'Malley and her two sisters were legally abducted from their mother and placed in an industrial school ran by the Sisters of Mercy order of nuns, who also ran the notorious Magdalene Homes. The rape of eight-year-old Kathleen by a neighbour had triggered their removal - the Irish authorities ruling that her mother must have been negligent. They were only allowed a strictly supervised visit once a year, until they were permitted to leave the harsh and cruel regime of the institution at the age of sixteen. But Kate survived her traumatic childhood and escaped her past by leaving for England and then Australia when the British government offered a scheme to encourage settlement there. Fleeing her past again, Kate worked as a governess in Paris and then returned to England where she trained as a beautician at Elizabeth Arden. She married and had a son. A turning point in Kate's life came when she applied to become a magistrate and realised that she had to confront her hidden personal history and make it public. This is her inspiring story.

Book excerpt: I cannot make much claim about this book. All the honour must go to God. When I have written a chapter of the book and read it over, I said, this is not I, it must be God. God is the inspirational writer of this book and whosoever reads it, reads the book of God. God wants to reach out to all of His children so this book is for everyone. The book will guide you into great truths so that you can overcome the evil one. It is the truth when applied to man sets him free. God has said, ‘For lack of knowledge my people are destroyed.’ (Hosea 4:6 KJV). God does not want His children to be destroyed so He sent His servants to give them knowledge. It is essential that you study and apply the teachings of Top Secrets of Life for through it, you can find the knowledge of God. One of our great mistakes is doing our own things and not allowing God to work through us. Now let me leave you with this saying and please keep it in memory at all times, ‘Man must cease from his own works and let God work through him’.
