Book Variations stylistiques

Download or read book Variations stylistiques written by Diane M. Dansereau and published by Yale University Press. This book was released on 2016-02-23 with total page 506 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This advanced level course book teaches stylistic variations of modern French grammar using examples from films and interviews as well as other authentic texts. Written entirely in French, it focuses on the most difficult grammar points and their usage, rather than on their formation. Variations stylistiques includes an abundance of oral and written exercises that are practical, relevant, creative, and fun, encouraging students to use the grammar in meaningful contexts. By highlighting the many linguistic variants employed by native speakers, Dansereau provides an engaging alternative to traditional French grammar textbooks. An ancillary Web site features quizzes and other valuable resources for instructors.

Book Foreign Language Learning with Digital Technology

Download or read book Foreign Language Learning with Digital Technology written by Michael Evans and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2009-02-07 with total page 223 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While digital technology is endlessly innovating and improving itself as a tool to support teaching and learning, the cognitive process of language learning itself remains perennially the same. However, digital technology has created new learning opportunities and introduces new elements into the cognitive process of foreign language learning. The contributors of this well-edited collection examine foreign language learning primarily from a user perspective and explore these underlying questions: How does digital technology support existing foreign language learning needs and processes? What new learning experiences does it entail for the learner? The book situates new insights into the value of digital technology for foreign language learning within the context of evidence from prior research and of educational policy-making and examines key pedagogical uses of digital technology in relation to effective foreign language learning by pupils. It provides an in-depth description of the use of a range of digital media and combines practical ideas for teaching and learning with critical analysis of evidence drawing on an analysis of technology-focused language learning across different sectors and in different anglophone contexts.

Book Mediating Violence from Africa

Download or read book Mediating Violence from Africa written by George MacLeod and published by U of Nebraska Press. This book was released on 2023 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mediating Violence from Africa explores how African and non-African Francophone authors, filmmakers, editors, and scholars have packaged, interpreted, and filmed the violent histories of post-Cold War Francophone Africa. This violence, much of which unfolded in front of Western television cameras, included the use of child soldiers facilitated by the Soviet Union's castoff Kalashnikov rifles, the rise of Islamist terrorism in West Africa, and the horrific genocide against the Tutsis in Rwanda. Through close readings of fictionalized child-soldier narratives, cinematic representations of Islamist militants, genocide survivor testimony, and Western scholarship, George S. MacLeod analyzes the ways Francophone African authors and filmmakers, as well as their editors and scholarly critics, negotiate the aesthetic, political, cultural, and ethical implications of making these traumatic stories visible. MacLeod argues for the need to periodize these productions within a "post-Cold War" framework to emphasize how shifts in post-1989 political discourse are echoed, contested, or subverted by contemporary Francophone authors, filmmakers, and Western scholars. The questions raised in Mediating Violence from Africa are of vital importance today. How the world engages with and responds to stories of recent violence and loss from Africa has profound implications for the affected communities and individuals. More broadly, in an era in which stories and images of violence, from terror attacks to school shootings to police brutality, are disseminated almost instantly and with minimal context, these theoretical questions have implications for debates surrounding the ethics of representing trauma, the politicization of memory, and Africa's place in a global (as opposed to a postcolonial or Euro-African) economic and political landscape.

Book Applying priming methods to L2 learning teaching and research

Download or read book Applying priming methods to L2 learning teaching and research written by Pavel Trofimovich and published by John Benjamins Publishing. This book was released on 2011-03-24 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume features a collection of empirical studies which use priming methods to explore the comprehension, production, and acquisition of second language (L2) phonology, syntax, and lexicon. The term priming refers to the phenomenon in which prior exposure to specific language forms or meanings influences a speaker’s subsequent language comprehension or production. This book brings together the various strands of priming research into a single volume that specifically addresses the interests of researchers, teachers, and students interested in L2 teaching and learning. Chapters by internationally known scholars feature a variety of priming techniques, describe various psycholinguistic tasks, and focus on different domains of language knowledge and skills. The book is conceptualized with a wide audience in mind, including researchers not familiar with priming methods and their application to L2 research, graduate students in second language acquisition and related disciplines, and instructors who require readings for use in their courses.
