Book excerpt: Anna: A Grace Filled Life portrays a moving tribute to Anna Giesbrecht—daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend and widow—roles which barely skim the surface of what her life has really meant. Following Anna’s life from the very beginning in Mexico to her life changing move to Canada, where she grew deep roots spanning her entire adult life, Anna’s story is one of sorrow, hope, victory, and love—her precious family and most of all, her Jesus. From early on, Anna came to know how Christ’s love was shown, through the life and the love of her parents. As she faced her own personal battles, such as an unplanned pregnancy and life as a single parent, this familiar love continually shone through as she received support from her parents and family. Life was challenging but drawing from this strength, Anna grew into her faith and eventually she married, and her days revolved around work and more family. As trials and circumstances tested her faith, Anna chose to give thanks and to pray without ceasing. This is an intimate story of a so-called ordinary woman, and the ripple effect that a life, well-lived, can have. Her legacy stretches across friendships, communities, and generations of family. Lovingly told, this biography brings to life the story of a remarkable woman, and the courage and tenacity she has portrayed throughout her life will no doubt offer encouragement and inspiration to all. Readers are invited to share not just the abundant wisdom that is evident throughout Anna’s life, but to partake in her unique, down-to-earth home cooking.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is no crime in detecting and destroying in wartime the spy and informer...I have paid them back in their own coin. - Michael CollinsMichael Collins' development of a formidable intelligence network transformed, for the first time in history, the military fortunes of the Irish against the British. The Dublin Brigade of the IRA was pivotal to this defining strategy. In 1919, Collins formed members of the brigade into two Special Duties Units. They eventually joined to form his 'Squad' of assassins tasked with immobilising British intelligence. Eyewitness testimonies and war diaries lend immediacy and insight to this thrilling account of the daring espionage and killings carried out by both sides on Dublin's streets. Dominic Price reveals how the IRA developed Improvised Explosive Devices, and experimented with chemical weapons in the form of poison gas and infecting water supplies. When the Civil War erupted, the devotion of a significant cohort of the Dublin Brigade to Collins, forged during the darkest of days, was unbreakable. Many of them, identified here for the first time, formed the backbone of the Free State in key intelligence and military roles. While not shying away from the revulsions of the Civil War, neither does Price abandon the brigade's story at its conclusion. As well as revealing the disenchantment of some, who took part in the 1924 army mutiny, he exposes the personal horrors that awaited in peacetime, when psychological trauma was common. This is the stirring and poignant story of the human endeavour and suffering at the core of the Dublin Brigade's fight for Irish freedom.

If you’re like Alicia DiFabioa minivan-driving, harried mother of four small children whose daily look features stained yoga pants, a messy ponytail, and a big diaper bagyou would shrug your shoulders and try to hold on for that after-bedtime glass of wine. In Women Who Tri, DiFabio explores the triathlon phenomenon that has gripped her town and swept the nation. Her memoir is both inspiring and informative as it explores the popularity, psychology, subculture, and transformative power of triathlons among "ordinary" women. Set in a small New Jersey town that now hosts America’s largest women-only triathlon club, Women Who Tri weaves together the insights of a psychologist, the research of a journalist, and the deep insecurities of a daunted newbie. DiFabio shares her journey from nervous newcomer to triathlon finisher as she investigates one of the world’s most challenging and inspiring sports. She profiles women who have overcome challenges to become athletes and tri for themselves and to help others.
